Question of the Day: If I paid someone else to change my clutch cable, and now the transmission leaks at the cable, what are the possible causes? Side note: I have decided that being short on time is no longer a valid excuse to let somebody else touch my Blast! with a wrench or other tools. |

Joey, Check your transmission fluid level. Mine leaks there to if level is too high. Ray |

Update on the White Brothers exhaust: sent the exhaust system back to Yorba Linda, CA got a whole brand new exhaust back minus the mounts, called back and got the mounts and tourqe valve a few days later, no questions asked. Very good people to deal with. My only problem with the whole thing is the weld on the headers front mount is far uglier than the one that broke. Note: XG, my small crack turned into almost being a break within 10 miles of the time I first noticed the crack. The crack was behind the weld going around the pipe. If it would have broken all the way through with only the swivel mount on the muffler there to support the weight of the muffler something bad might have happened. Call White Bothers and get a new exhaust. |

Damn frightful, I have 3 weeks until my bike goes into storage and I don't have time to be without my bike. The crack I have is at the bottom rear of the front header mount tab. Which sounds like where yours broke. Hell if they send a new header to me I'll be saticfied. Right now it is barely a fracture, 3/8ths of an inch, and rather tight. |

Can you guys post some pictures of the problems with the White Brothers exhaust? Got me worried now. I'll have to give mine a good inspection from now on. How many miles did it take to develop problems? I've got about 2700 miles on with the new exhaust. Thanks, Jerry |

I don't have access to a camera right now (as scary as that sounds for a professional photographer) all 8 of mine are packed for shipment. I can tell you where to look. pay very close attention to welds on the header bracket. I checked mine when I first heard/saw that there was a problem and then alter I saw a somewhat darker line along the edge ot the weld. I waited a day or so to insure that the pipe was cool and then used a spraybottle and sprayed water on the pipe right after startup. it bubbled around the suspected area. I called WB this morning and they were very cool. I explained that I am transfering shortly and needed to get the bike repaired ASAP. THey are sending a new header out today and I should have it before the Blast goes into Storage (sniff) |

Get a couple of thin high temp. rubber-type auto washers(I just grabed a couple out of the shops bin) and add them to your mounting assembly f&r. It should help absorb some of the stress that causes the cracking. Just a thought I put into action after hearing about all these cracking exhaust pipes(almost all modern exhaust auto mounts have rubber-type washer/bushings incorporated into the mounting). Just blasting on the dark side! EZ |

Question of the Day: What's the best way to remove a screw from the clutch cover if the head of the screw gets stripped out? If it wasn't recessed, I'd use a hacksaw and a big flathead... |

I have been making weekend trips lately on my 2001 Blast, and each round-trip is putting 400-750 miles on the bike. I was wondering several things (and would appreciate any and all help): 1. For such trips, what spare parts would you recommend me carrying? 2. Does anyone know of a way to put a larger gas tank on the Blast? Some additional information about my trips, they, have to date, taken place in North and South Carolina (I currently line in Charlotte, NC) and generally put me into the mountains ("my soulscape" as Neil Peart would say) with the wonderful twists, turns, and scenery. (BTW> I'm keeping a trip-journal and will be posting some of my trips to the Tales section soon.) |

Sojourn, That's an interesting question, one I've not seen raised here before. A large fuel tank might be a viable product for the aftermarket. I'm sorry to say I haven't seen anything yet in that regard. Spare parts... Oil, spark plug, zip ties, bulbs, fuses, tire plug/patch kit, lok-tite, a length of spare electrical wire, electrical tape, temporary belt repair kit (limp to town mode only), throttle cables... |

Blake, Thanks for the info on the spare parts... I think I'll put together a spares-kit for the trips. I was curious about the larger gas tank for the Blast considering it's range is rather short (about 135 miles before reserve) |

A picture of where my E Series header cracked. The picture is kida fuzzy, but look closely and you can see where the crack started. After removing the pipe I was surprised to find the crack was only a 16th of an inch from totally breaking. Hope this helps anyone concerned. |

Well, I sold the blast on Friday. After riding it for 1000 miles and doing the service, its just not the bike for me. Just not enough power and too much vibration. Still like the looks and simplicity. |

I found some anti Blast Buell propaganda. I thought you Blastphemers might have an interest in this: anti Blast Buell propaganda ...basically a new 'cycle owner with a either a bad blast, or a bad break in...and a horrible dealership...and a whole lot of whinin' |

I love my Blast! , I sure wish I could say that about the dealership that used to service it (I do it now) - they would have had my business except for the too many times they have screwed up consistently in the past. That said - I love my Blast! Even if/when I do ever "graduate" to another bike (probably another Buell;0))My Blast will always stay with me. I've pretty much customized it to fit me and thats not something you give up lightly - it is a great bike in its own right and the platform it has given me for learning and growing as a rider - with many grins and only a few frowns (not many relationships can claim this!)has been great! Besides very few would recognize it as a 'Buell Blast' anymore (you guys excepted - of course;0)). Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

Rick_A, There is one part of that page that indicts the entire rant. Quote:After sputtering through the intersection and up the street the Blast cut out on me again on a curve. I laid it down to avoid a roadside tree but the bike fell on top of me and separated my shoulder. I'll be out of work for 3 months.
Ya right. The guy is obviously a total buffoon or and outright scammer. I wouldn't trust a word he says. |

Must have been because hit Blast's power steering pump went out when he lost the engine Guess he lost the power breaks also, and thats why he had to "lay it down". I wonder why the driver side airbags did not keep him for separating his shoulder |

To all you other Blasters out there I have a question. What bags do you prefer to use? I commute ~15 miles to work everyday and a backpack is killing my back. I would like to have some good saddlebags or a tank bag, but it needs to be able to carry textbooks (I also go to school after work) and such. So, what do you recommend? |

For what its worth I use a bicycle bag with a shoulder and waist strap. All the weight sits on the saddle, its comfortable, easy to pack and cheap! Tim |

Look at Chase Harper motorcycle luggage it is quite nice. Also I have used my wifes Kawasaki saddlebags on my Blast, not a perfect fit but it could be pretty close with some time spent. I hate carrying a backpack they are designed for walking not for riding. I have for years used a Bicycle messengers bag...great for riding on two wheels really bad for treating as a backpack and walking around in all day. Timbuk2 makes the best messenger bags...they've been doing it for more than 20 years...I can carry a case of beer in mine comfortably |

I've been using my AeroStitch Courier Bag to and from work. I'd rather have some hard, lockable saddlebags, but no one seems to make them for the Blast. Since the Blast is not sold outside of the US and Canada, none of the European mfrs. (Hepco-Becker, Givi, etc.) sell anything. I've read really good comments about the Timbuk2 bags on the Ducati Monster list. |
