Bike - a British mag - after testing and trying a good assortment of bikes (practically hundreds) declared the Buell XB12R the best handling bike of the lot - no suprise to Buell fans of course. What is interesting to note is that several bikes that the Blast out classes in handling and stability where also in the top 50 (makes ya wish they sold them overseas so they could have competed) - 4th the BSA Gold Star, and 21st the Royal Enfield. There where several other singles in the top 50 as well - modern and classic - I really think Erik missed the boat not selling this single overseas, especially seeing how popular those singles still are over there. Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ |

the problem is Harley and the cost of doing the homodulation (sp?) though if they did the EU they get past most worlds regulations...Japan would be tough regardless since singles are so common, competing against the establishment would be very hard |

One of the reasons I bought the Blast is I looked at it as a modern interpretation of the BSA Gold Star, or the Velo Thruxton. It's such a fun bike to ride... It's no wonder it was called the Blast! (OK, that is a little over the top) I don't know if Buell missed the boat on selling it overseas or not, the market is really fierce, and I don't know if the Blast is a profittable enough bike to warrant exporting. I noticed that the XB9R bikes are also not exported to Europe anymore.... Just something to think about. I do agree with the Blast being a modern classis of sorts. BTW, the Royal Enfiels mentioned in the article is a 1914 Twin... It's in there because it's fun to ride a motorised bicycle sometimes James |

you hit it on the head with the profitablity, the SR can be had here in japan for 200,000-300,000Y used and the same goes for a new FTR |

I know Blasts have made it to Europe through various grey market channels, and I've seen various people from different parts of Europe post, however Roger Ruvell - email - Lyon904@aol.com - needs to contact any euro (including the Brittish Isles) owners to prove he is not the only Blast owner in Europe. Ralph and anyone else - do you have any contact info for him of any Euro Blast owners - I remember the Itallian gent but no Email addy in my possesion. If anyone could help, please contact him with info so he can prove it isn't the only Blast in Europe and not pay around 5000 bucks for special licencing. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Riding in Albuquerque!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about having to have your SH!* together. Between the sand banks on pretty much every intersection for right hand turns.... Slick concrete approching stoplights....Drivers who would be scary if they were on peddle bikes... and last but not least potholes and roads that look straight out of Iraq. Other than that its great out here, i no longer get burnt knuckles from the asphault heat in Phoenix. Once im feeling up to it im making the run up to Sandia Peak. Its like our own lil' baby Tail of the Dragon. If any Blasters are out here in ABQ look me up and we can make a run somewhere. |

Did everyone see the compliment that was made about this side of the board yesterday? Blake said "I'm begging here. This board and the other model specific boards except for the Thumper Forum are a complete mess, a disorganized disaster." Good job fellow Blasters! (Message edited by swampy on September 01, 2005) |

OK everybody, had to pay off to wife for letting me get intake and exhaust. She wanted a Jack Russell Terrier. Does anybody have any suggestions for a female? |

TNT, you have to give a 7 year commitment for a few hundred in bike parts... I feel for ya My advice: Adopt, Find a dog that's allready been fixed, and, unless you're going to breed dogs (ak GearheadErikO about that) Get a dog that is Juck Russel-ish, getting hung up on breeding and AKC papers for a dog that you will enjoy as a pet and friend really doesn't make sense to me personally. My Mini Schnauser was a great dog, too big for her breed, not perfect coloring, no papers, but a great little dog. James |

Swampy, Yeah, I noticed that... we must stick with it though, it doesn't take much to screw this place up. I have no news for an engine, any luck on your end? James |

Please dont buy from the pet store. Contact Jack Russell rescue or reputable breeders in your area. Web search for Jack Russel clubs and make some phone calls to several asking about the breed. We almost got a Jack Russell but now have Basenji's instead. |

I have a friend that is going to weld it all together. I have not had any luck finding just an engine. If I buy a crankshaft, and all the other parts that it will take to put it in I figure it will come out to $500, that I don't have right now, and if it doesn't work I'm not out anything, I have to replace all those welded parts anyways. Jack Russell? I have two males I could trade for an engine? My mom has a female thats going to the breeder this week. Smartest dog there is...smart aleck that is! Fearless hunters. We got her from a breeder. This is our second jack. I would never buy from a petstore too overpriced and lousy conditions. If anybody hears of any used Blasts within 100 miles or so of Knoxville,TN let me know.I have a friend at my gym looking for one and his roommate wants one also. And the 7 year commitment is less then a year away.just had our sixth anniversary. |

This is WAY off topic.... BUT JRT's are not for everyone. James has met our little Gromit. He's a really neat dog. He was rescued from a home that was going to put him to sleep! Somehow, they couldn't deal with the dog at all. These guys require constant "unwinding" and some unusual or creative training methods. Rescues are full of 'em 'cause they're not what most people expect from a dog. Think hard before getting yourself a Jack. -Saro |

November is British bike night at American Sport Bike Night Interesting opportunity to expose NoCalNOC and our Nortons to a local group of motorcycle enthusiasts. The NoCalNOC club has been invited to American Sportbike Night Monday evening, November 7th as the guests of honor. They are declaring their November get together as British Bike Night. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/americansportbikenight/ This is the primary northern California Buell owners group, we meet first monday every month at Straw Hat Pizza in south San Leandro, located just off 880 on Washington Blvd, the next exit north after the 238 split. Every month has a different theme, not necessarily Buells...we've had Honda, Ducati, all-make singles, Bonneville racers, dirt track, hill climb, vintage, etc. everybody (and guests) bringing an example of the theme bike if possible. Everyone is welcome whether or not they ride or rode a motorcycle. It's not a formal club kind of meeting, just 30-50 motorcycle enthusiasts meeting and gabbing about bikes. Meetings start at 7p, people gather about 6-6:30 and oogle bikes in the lot. Generally a video presentation (there's audio gear and a big screen available) or guest speaker or two yaks on topic while everybody eats, afterwards a nice raffle of donated items and then an adjournment to the p'lot for more schmoozing around the motorcycles. Everybody usually splits by 8:45 or 9:00 pm. Hopefully Lorin and/or one of you other Norton gurus could do presentations on the club and the Norton mystique. Rex Chaney and Michael (Woz) Wozniak, two of the group founders are VERY enthusiastic about the idea. According to Rex plans are already in motion. James Banke (Banke Performance) is going to bring up some of his track and street Triumphs. James builds custom suspension suspension components, lace wheels, etc. for Nortons as well as other bikes. Woz is going to contact the new triumph dealer as it seems the area is a little short on new Norton dealers. If anybody here is on first name basis with suppliers like Rabers or Fair Spares, please invite them. Just forward this email. If they'd care to donate to the raffle they can contact either Rex...BuellV@aol.com or Woz ...Michael@Wozniak.com to promote their wares. There are lots of display tables available for merchandise show and tell. respectfully submitted Frederick |

Hey, guys! Just checking to let you all know that I have a bike, again. I picked up an '04 9R from a kid in Iowa. Rode it back up to St. Paul. Feels good to be on two wheels again. Thanks to everyone for the support and well wishes over the past year and a half. If any of you are going to be in the area, let me know. |

Well after a long day of phone calls I finally found a shop that carries amsoil in my area and also has the ngk spark plugs. I would have been raped by the chrome devils if it wasnt for this board. Thanks for all the info everyone has posted. |

Since I've done my small mods I have a few things I'd like to see on this bike from factory in the future. Better intake, Better exhaust(narrower anyway so you don't have to nearly take it off to service primary). Tachometer. And a bit more power and torque and a six speed. My bike is just begging for a higher gear now that it has more power. John Also that combo dipstick oil temp guage I suggested before would be really nice. |

Lately I've been sliding my back tire inadvertently on very hard breaking maneuvers while rapidly downshifting... For example, I had to accelerate to get around a car, and then merge into a turn lane. I admit I was in a big hurry and was riding much too aggressively. I came into the turn lane doing 60+ in a 45 zone(didn't really have time to look) and had about 3 car lengths to slow down enough for a hairpin right with a 30 degree down slope into a very quick left sweeper leading into another straight away parallel to the main highway. I downshifted from 4th to 3rd while simultaneously nailing the front brake and coordinating the back brake as well. A split second after that, I dropped it into second. The rear tire didn't lock up, but I was still fast and it stepped out to the left and slid for a second until it matched speed. I was totally off the rear brake when I felt it step out, but still hard on the front to make the corner. Just in time the rear hooked up, I apexed the right hander, narrowly avoiding a big pot hole just off the pavement in the gravel, then flung the bike into the quick left as my stomach dropped through the 30 degree down slope, pinned the throttle and exited onto the straight at the top of second gear. Thank god there were not cops around. I passed an oncoming car right after I completed the maneuver and was about to let off the throttle and resume normal riding. They were staring at me all gap-jawed, so held the throttle open just a little longer and let them have the Bub at full roar too. I'm a jerk. The question is, however, did I do that corner right, or should I have been able to avoid the little tail slide resulting from the early downshift? I’ve been watching some Super Moto racing on TV, and it seems like they let the rear ends of those things flip and step and go all over when they are hard on the grabbers. I have another question too. When I'm running through twisties marked 45mph at 70-75, I'm getting some chatter from my rear tire. I'm running the avon tire and it is pretty flat on the center, so I'm assuming that the chatter is just due to the tread pattern and the lack of even wear. Can anyone else confirm that about the Avon tires? |
