Swampy, I believe that the crank drive shaft is a seperate part from the Flywheels and can be replaced seperately, at least they were on the old big twins and Sportsters. It's going to be a heck of a lot of work, but it's cheaper than a new crank. Can someone with a parts manual confirm this?? If I remember correcly, NRHS had a complete crank assembly, I don't remember if they sold it or not. James |

Burn My, I don't think that there is an easy way to make the airbox liquid tight. It's not even air tight, it just relies on the ability to make the lowest restrictive path for air into the box through the air filter. What I'm getting at is, as long as you have oil in the airbox, it will find a way out. I remember my stock airbox leaking oil, not much, but it would leak a little. James |

BMHD - sounds normal then. If the tube is not aimed directly into the carburator, all the crap that comes out of it will collect in the airbox and, as you have found out, eventually leak out onto your motor, or your leg. Re-route it back to a safe location, or aim it into the carburator so the engine drinks the drips... |

I have a hose that goes off the nozzle into the bottom of the airbox, and there's a spongey thing in there to soak the gunk up...but it doesn't appear to be working. |

Swampy are you sure you torqued the nut to 160-210 ft. lbs. and used red loctitie? If so I have reason to be worried. I had to borrow a torque wrench that went that high and I needed two people to hold the bike while I tightened it. |

BMHD The hose thing you are referring to did not come stock and maybe it is adding to your problems. And the spongy thing in the bottom of your airbox will only add to your troubles. Liquid follows gravity. I use a Pro Series intake with a support of my own design and have not experienced puking or loss of oil since. And I do have the stock setup on the Pro Series |

Dann, I put the hose on the little spigot after I turned it away from my carb. Then cut a piece of hose the same length and ran it right into the bottom where I put this sponge thing to catch the oil puke up stuff. That way I didn't have to pop the airbox off and drain it as much....lazy me. I'll maybe throw up pics tomorrow. I just put on the superbike bars so it's time for new pics of the bike anyway. |

Hey guys, Well Never got rid of my baby....F it, they can pull it from my cold dead fingers!!!! Also moving back out here to NM has helped my condition 100%, im thunping around when ever i get a chance and i will keep it up till the legs stop working Also after hacking my back section i rigged up a side mount bracket to hold the plate. Got rid of that and mounted it to the two lil screws holding the brake light assembly using some lil pieces of metal to drop it down far enough to bite. Now i need to hit a big dip to see if the tire scrapes it, should be ok back there though. Ill post a pic of it on the pics page. Cya all, thx for the support |

I finally got done with the mods on my bike, tail section chop, new license plate bracket, painted the header pipe which burned off on the first ride, painted my carb support bracket and exhaust mounts I will post pics as soon as I can scrounge up a camera to take pics. I also got a avon rear tire mounted. The header pipe looks ok except for the paint partially peeling off. I am leaving it this way until winter when I can try some other ideas or just get the money together for a pro series exhaust, then the v&h will become a spare exhaust. |

Dann, are you running an aftermarket exhaust with the pro series intake? I'm looking to start with the intake but want a different exhaust to get better perfromance, sound and make it easier to service primary |

I have the White Bros E series although they no longer make them due to reliability(falling apart) problems. I've had good luck with this one, my second one, three years and lots of miles. It's a shame really I like the power and sound. Not too loud really mellow sounding with good performance boost. The other exhaust I had was the Kerker made good power but is really loud and doesn't give you much ground clearance. |

This is my first post here. I just bought a 2005 Blast on Saturday. I took the MSF course two-weeks ago, so I am a complete novice. I've been lurking around here for awhile. The info on Badweb, particularly the THUMPer forum, helped be decide that a Blast was a good first bike. I've just been riding it around town this week and its been fun. The bike now has 50 miles on it. I have a couple of questions/issues. 1) I'm a bit puzzled by the manual's recomended break-in procedure since there is no tach. I've been trying to start easy and shift according to the chart in the manual. Any advice about this would be great. 2) On several occasions, I have had trouble starting the bike. This seems to happen if the I've only riden a short distance and then parked. When I go back to start the bike, it stalls or will not start. I've been able to get it started by waiting a bit, then starting it and immediately moving forward in first. This troubles me. Does anybody know what is going on and if it will resolve itself. 3) When I'm riding, I hear a high-pitched whining when I slow down. Like I said, I'm a newbie so this might be normal. Thanks. |

#1 Yes, no tach, just follow the mph shift points in the manual. #2 An annoying little habit which will seemingly go away with use.It is usually the automatic choke (auto enrichener) kicking back on.(though I cant remember it actually giving me much trouble, maybe someone who has had a lot of trouble with this can give some insight on anything that might aggravate this condition). #3 Probably the primary chain is too tight. At the 1000 mile service it will get adjutsted. |

Gearheaderiko Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I'm not really worried about any of these things, but its good to hear it from somebody who knows this motorcycle. |

Lyonsjp, Everything is OK, I think Erik is on the money for #1, #2, try just cracking open the throttle when it is reluctant to start, it seems to work , and is better than just waiting around. What can happen is the auto choke is still on, enritchening the intake mixture, cracking the throttle lets some air in which leans it out to the point that it negates the auto enrichener. #3, if the noise sounds like Cicadas (ok, really quiet cicadas), and only happen when slowing with the brakes, it is a normal noise coming from the stock brake pads and rotors. The brakes are noisy, but will get quieter with use, aftermaeket pads help too. My rear brake still squeals after 35000 miles. James |

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I have a question about the footpegs on the blast. Where can I get some racey aluminum kind like other sportbikes have. I've looked at all the alum ones that other buells have, and none are a match to the mounts on a blast. And please be specific, I need to know a part number or specific bike model that has the same footpeg mount. I don't want to modify, I just want to bolt on. Can anyone help me ? >Bobby |

None fit as a straight bolt-on that I know of, Bobby. I think that you're on you own unless there is something out there that the other Blasters know of. James |

You know you can just dis assemble the stock set up, drill a hole about an inch above the peg mount, and then just bolt on most any aftermarket footpeg (and you'll be better equiped to not drag pegs so readily). GT - JBOTDS! EZ (Message edited by ezblast on August 30, 2005) |
