Gearhead if James is up for it I would say do it. I have done some pit work for some people at the track. I have just as much fun being pit crew some times as I do racing. You might also want to try to be a corner worker, best seats in the house and depending on the track you even get paid. Just my 2 cents, have a great day |

Erik, I'm all ears on that. If I can ride your bike, until you feel comfortable racing, I'm all for it. That excites the heck out of me. Let me know what you need, I'll help you out wherever I can. James |

Okay! James E-mail me off board and we'll hammer out details. Matty-We will need a list of minimum modifications to be done on a mostly stock (mildly modified engine) Blast such as catch can, duct tape, lights, safety wiring, etc. to pass a tech inspection. We'll also need one of those flimsy race fairings unless James wants to ride without one. |

Matty, Where do we get race bodywork? Flyscreen and belly pan? Check these auctions out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4561485612& sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4561380997&rd=1&ss pagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 |

race Flyscreens are available at your local dealership - it's the S1 race screen. Belly pans must be "Mcguyvered". =) Our best sources have been crashed fairings from other bikes - just cut them up and make them fit. |

I'm Baaaack! I'm still up for it. I'll still need a list of bike safety/track tech mods to prepare the bike for the track. Is there a list posted somewhere? |

Erik, Here's the List that I compiled looking at Willow Springs Tech Regs. I went through the listof rules and took out most of the stuff taht we do not need to comply with, or were common sense (working brakes, and no coolant for water cooled bikes) It' pretty straightforward. Remove a bunch of non-essential stuff, safety wire some more, and add a belly pan and number plates. GENERAL MOTORCYCLE REQUIREMENTS The following requirements must be followed by all WSMC racing motorcycles, unless modified by specific class requirements. These rules are designed to ensure that all machines are in safe mechanical condition, and that potential failure points are guarded or will fail-safe. 2. All machines must prominently display the WSMC logo on both sides of the machine. Points and awards will be withheld from any racer who fails to display the WSMC decals. 3. The following equipment must be removed: license plate and bracket (if not part of the tail light assembly), reflectors, center and side stands, mirrors, turn signals, luggage racks, saddlebags, crash bars (case guards may be allowed). 7. All plugs and fittings with oil or water behind them (this can include oil galley plugs) must be securely fastened and safety wired. Yellow 3M weather-strip cement or RTV silicone sealant may be used in cases where it is impractical to drill fasteners. 8. All fuel, oil, and coolant line connections must have positive clamping (not safety wires or slip fits). Clamps on pressure oil, fuel, and water lines must be safety wired so as to prevent loosening. 10. A six (6) ounce capacity (minimum) catch tank or reservoir must be provided for all breather hoses venting the cam box and/or top end, crankcase, primary drive case, transmission, carburetor(s), and oil tank(s). Catch tank(s) must be situated so that they will not overflow unless more than two-thirds (2/3) full. 20. Disk brake caliper mounting fasteners must be safety wired… 23. Footrests may fold up and rearwards but must not fold accidentally. Footrests may be modified to fold if not originally folding. Footrests, if covered by rubber, must have rubber securely fastened. Only one set of footrests may be fitted (Super Stock exempted). Foot controls must be free from sharp or ragged edges. 25. Numberplates must be clearly readable from front and both sides while motorcycle is in motion. Should either the original bodywork or replacement bodywork not include the required 10" x 12" number display area, a separate numberplate of those dimensions must be securely attached. 29. All axle nuts must be safety wired. If machine has a C-clip device on axle it must be safety wired. All axle pinch bolts must be safety wired. 31. All motorcycles shall be equipped with muffling devices that limit the sound to 108dBA. 32. Removable exhaust baffles and/or cores must be safety wired. 33. All motorcycles, without exception, must be equipped with a working engine kill switch accessible without removing hands from the handgrips. 36. Any motorcycle running synthetic oil … is required to have belly/catch pan capable of holding the capacity of synthetic fluid used. |

Thanks James, I see your still interested?! I dont understand the need for a belly pan if using synthetic oil only? On the plus side it only needs to catch 2 quarts. It may be worthwhile to run dino juice and go without it. |

Yes Erik, I'm still intrested. THe funds are what is going to kill me. On the Belly Pan thing, I'd probably fab one up just to have it. They'll probably make them mandatory across the board next year. |

Hey Matty - Have you been to that strange little Pizza joint (Georgies?) off Vanowen just past the cemetery? It's a nice walk when it's cooler. There always happens to be some odd to look at - like rotting produce or a mostly eaten goat head. I can't quite figure it out....... Erik- Whereabouts do you live? I know where James is at. -Saro |

I actually think someplace near James (Chino Hills) would likely be somewhat central-ish. Erik & James - input? Matty- we could carpool if ya wanted. -Saro |

So I pick up project track bike Blast on Sat. - any thoughts on rearsets? Kinda gunshy about buying another set of Xroads - wasn't overly fond of the set I had on it and don't want to drop 500 on something that's going to be the sacrificial lamb in a crash. Anyone chop the stockers? Got pics? |

I'm free all day-evening friday, sat evening or all day Sunday (though I'd rather meet early as not to kill the whole day-I may have a race bike to prep!) Philly-MMElvis has modified the stock set up.(see pics at this site somewhere) |

Philly, Try here, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/20164/15647.html#POST391162 Me? I'm going to grab some aluminum plate and make myself up some slightly different from what I'm currently using. I've mounted the left foorpeg and the rear brake on steel plates. The shifter is XB, with a tapped primary cover. Pegs can be found lots of places. I machined up some clevis' to take XB pegs. James |
