There is a screaming eagle ignition module (#32942-02 I think) that can be used with the stock Carborator. Otherwise you have to start from scratch as Aaron has with a Mikuni flatside. |

Tony, Does that help with performance much? do you know how much it costs? |

from what I remember that module is tuneable in that you can set the revlimit and everything else. It's a really good idea if you have had say a Nallinization and want to raise the revlimit to say 7800 or some such. But as with all things of this sort having a Dyno and someone who really knows what they are doing(Aaron FI) playing with your motor helps this. I wouldn't bother unless you plan to get head and cylinder work done. Cost was $189 I think. |

Thanx Tony, I think I will leave it alone for know, I am still under warranty & they (threw in) an extended warranty so I am kinda not wanting to mess that up. Hey, also Istrike{seen} saw somebody playing around doing some editing on pics. I was thinking of painting the stock rearsets and that silver frame it mounts to black. Can't remember who it was, but if they get a wild hair, I was curious as to what it might look like. I have a black blast, so it seems logical? Ken |

I plan on Painting/powdercoating the Frame at some point, It is a good thought. I wonder when the Factory is gonna catch on and start painting the frames (especially the XB's) black...it just looks better

Well, Just got finished with putting in the Nallins big bore kit 515. I am running stock cams, opened up the air box, and stock exhaust. It is stronger that stock. But one of the problems is that it is running lean. THis is from the bigger valves and better porting. I will rejet it on Tues when I get the right jets from the dealer. They gave me ones that don't even fit the carb. The power is following the stock exhaust. It starts out strong then drops down and then comes back really strong until the rev limiter kicks in. From what I can tell is that this thing really needs to have a better exhaust that will let it breathe better. It also is still pulling strong when it hits the rev limiter. So this needs to be also changed from 6500 to 7500. Caution Caution.......... I recommend that everyone check your front motor mount that is rubber. When I took the bike apart mine was broken at only 3000 miles in a 2000 model. This is total bullshit BUELL. The same thing happened to the S-1 I had and it also had 2300 miles on it. I have never hit anything or ran over speed bumps. So everyone look at it and be careful. When I get the new one I will pull the bike apart again and fix it. I recommend that if you are going to put the kit in just plan on replacing the front rubber mount at the same time... |

Blasterd, the stock exhaust makes a pretty decent chin spoiler. Not much else though... You might want to check WildHair (http://www.whaccessories.com) for a generic one. All you guys and your Nallinizing is making me jealous. Wish I had the dough to spend on it right now, but rearsets are on the way! I love the way that black frame looks! -- dan |

Fellow Blastards, The ignition module is worth the money if you Nallinize your motor as it will allow you to increase the rev limit over stock. The cost is closer to $260 though. It is completely bolt on other than programing which requires dyno work. The Daytona Digital tach works very well. Need to set it up as inductive (wire wraped around plug wire) but works quite nicely. Just got my bike back up and running, the modifications reveil impressive power gains. Should prove to be fun at Bonne. The mounts for the sidecar are finished and the sidecar is on the way. Ray |

Tach on a blast question. I bought one of those rev-light strips to use as a tach for the blast. What wire are you guys using for the tach signal pickup? The M2 had a pink wire already in the wiring harness that I just plugged the tach into. No such luck on the blast. I tried (with no success) the pink wire coming out of the coil. Maybe I'll try the wire wrap mentioned above. Anybody else with a different setup? Thanks. |

Tim, The stock ignition module does not have a tach pickup. The screaming eagle module does but I couldn't get my tach to communicate with it. I'm not sure about the tach you have but the daytona digital comes with a coiled pigtail made to wrap around the plug wire. Worked well on my Blast. Ray |

Hey Fssnoc2501, could you tell me the Dakota Tach part number you used? Also where you purchased it. Right now I have a Tiny Tach but it only updates about every 2.5 second. Thanks, Kev |

Kev, I got mine from Locart-Phillips can't remember the part#. Called "Daytona Digital" and is on their web site. Dennis Kirk also lists it on their web site but have been out of stock. Installation is very simple and appears to be working quite well. Ray |

Has anyone got any great ideas on how to make sure you are ajusting the primary chain correctly? Since the blast doesn't have a window like the older Buells or the firebolt. That is without pulling off the left side with footpeg? |

Philip, I use a 3/4" crowsfoot on a torque wrench and torque to 24 inch pounds. Now the manual says to back off the adjuster 4 flats from there, but I have found that 6 works better. No whine in the primary and no undo slack in chain. Ray |

FNG-looking to the blast as my first bike. have read lots of discouraging reports of reliability issues. Anyone know if the later models have worked out the bugs? Also would like to hear some "success stories" of blasts that have actually stood the test of time. Thx |

I had a Blast horror story. There wasn't all that much wrong with the bike from the factory (probably just a defective valve) but the results of the failure were catastrophic. ALL of the following repairs were inadequate. Even if one problem was solved, another was created. I cannot stress enough that 99% of this was dealer mechanic induced. I solved the problem by demanding a new Blast since my woes started at around 450 miles - about 1 month after I bought the bike. I truly didn't have the New Vehicle Experience. I have realized that like all my other vehicular things, I must NOT entrust my bike to a careless dealer mechanic. I've turned down free service and some warranty repairs just so I'll know who to point the finger at when a repair isn't properly done - ME. The Blast is a great bike. Despite the budget oriented, plastic, beginner nature of the bike, it has personality and potential. My girlfriend dropped hers a couple of times and what little repairs were needed were SUPER CHEAP. By used. Enjoy. Sell / trade or keep if you become attached as I have... The worst thing I can say about the Blast is that it has started me down the road of motorcycle addiction... -Saro |

OK, I can actually give a hearty thumbs up and give you a good positive experience. I purchased my blast in May of 2001 and other than maintenenace I have done nothing to it repair-wise. It doesn't use oil (have not lost the rocker box gasket even - the dealer thinks it may be after they started putting in the metal ones, but if not - oh well) averages 55 mpg and always starts. It handles great, and I like the look. The dealer here has been OK, it really depends on who was working on it (had the services under warranty done by the dealer - now I do my own) I have added a Vance and Hines pipe and re-jetted the bike when the warranty ran out I just ordered new handlebars, and am working out an idea for a new set of rearsets. The rear tire finally wore out at 3000 miles (I understand this is somewhat higher than others have gotten) and I ordered a set of pirelli's for it. My father was so impressed by mine that he went and purchased one as well. He added the windshield and sherpa bags as he rides 20 miles each way to work every day. He has put about 1800 miles on his since may of this year when he purchased it. He also has had no problems, and a great dealer experience in Salt Lake (don't know the dealer name) He likes his as well as he is 5'3 and it is one of the few bikes that sit upright that he can flatfoot. So, welcome and I hope your ownership will be as enjoyable as mine. Jim |

Thanks, I feel much better now! I realize that people are always more vocal about problems than about the good experiences, but I was getting a bit worried. I should add that I am also 5'3" and I too felt like the bike was designed from my rear to the floor! Especially with the lower seat. I can't say enough good about Rocket Harley-Davidson/Buell, in North Alabama. The salesman really made me feel like they weren't pushing Buell as a second choice. I just hope they still have the new sunset orange one when I go back to get it! Thanks for the quick replies, this is a great board! Tigre |

Eltigre, I purchased my bike in Sept. of last year and I am just about to pass 2000 miles. It is a 2002 model and it has been a good experience so far. When I purchased the bike, the kickstand safety switch was bad. I figured this out when I got it home and for the next couple of days I had to sit on the bike while it was warming up, the switch would cut the motor off every time I put the kickstand down if I did not have the clutch depressed. They ordered it & put it on. Other than that, no problems. I am 5'11" and ride it every day. Sometimes me and the wife take it on the road on the weekends putting 200 miles or more on it. My ride to work every day is only 2 miles so I really don't rack miles up that way. I havn't made any mods except changing the bars out. My impression of it is that it has been very reliable and fun to ride. Some people complain about the power and I have been critical of this before as well, but all I can tell you is ride and enjoy! It gets me where I need to go and never lets me down! Ken |

Travis, I have had mine for over a year now and dad's is over 2 years old. The only problems that we have had are minor and most are our own creation not Buell's. The great thing about this bike is that it screams to be modified. This is not to say it has to be modified but the possibilities are endless. It's a great bike to personalize and make what you want. The archives on this site are full of ideas. I have had no regrets about the purchase of mine. Ray |

Eltigre - I really really really like my Blast. Any and all issues have been easy to deal with and the power is there to be had by customization as you get more used to the bike and what you want from it. Some advise to go on to another bike after you feel limited by the Blast. However - this is an American bike and therefore there is a large aftermarket out there willing to help you tailor the bike to your spec.s - and contrary to others thoughts - it still adds up to less than buying another bike. Blasting on the dark side! EZ |

Wow! It is good to hear alot of support for the blast. I'm just one of those people who is very skeptical on my big purchases and I like to hear good things before I make one. Sounds like I won't be disappointed though. Just one more annoying question. What about cruising at interstate speeds, say 70-75mph? Can a 145lb. person do this without undue strain to the motor for a tank or two of gas at a time? Can't wait to get blastin' down I-65! T |

I ride mine at 75 over the pass between Cheyenne and Laramie. I weigh in at 185(ish) so 145 and 75 should be no problem. My father is about your size and 15 miles of his commute each day is interstate. He indicates no problem keeping up with my uncle on his goldwing (Yeah, I know my uncle could go faster, but he generally rides about the speed limit with the cruise on....) I could not quite do the pass at 75 before the exhaust/jet change though...of course I was riding over 8000 feet I am to the point that I ride the blast in preference to my 750 Yamaha...even on the highway. Do yourself a favor though, get the taller seat. The shorter one is kind of bad for longer commutes. I am looking into either a corbin or a custom seat myself. Jim |

I'm almost 5'11", around 225 pounds, and I cruise regurlarly at 75 and faster. I haven't gone faster than 90, but that's not because I couldn't. Once I get a new tire, I just might push it a little more! My only dissatisfaction has been with a dealer repair. When I got mine, all I knew was that my wife wouldn't let me spend more than $5K for a motorcycle. I didn't even contemplate one of those foreign buggars. I guess the only import I've ever had was my wife! |

Eltigre, I have over 11,000 miles on my 2000 model.Only problem was the rocker box gasket (Buell has switched to a metal gasket.) I did the Hopeless Rally this past May on it. 1000 miles in less than 24 hrs. I am 6'1" and 235 lbs. I ran 75 and 80 mph the whole way with no problems. I did crunch my pipe on the motocross track that Arkansas calls I-40. I have been riding my whole life and I love this bike. Go for it. |
