Hello, I'm the new guy in town. After lurking and looking at other bikes for the past year I bought a 2005 Blast yesterday. Now have 46 miles on it. This is my first motorcycle in 18 years and I'm kinda rusty, but not too bad. I think I do need to take the MSF course again. My card is dated '86. My username is the rank I retired from the Navy with in 1999. I'll be asking questions, I'm sure, as you folk certainly know your Blasters. Right now I'm just enjoying the vibrations and the fun. It reminds me so much of the vibrations you got from old Cushman scooters Sears used to sell. But now I'm showing my age. Again, just wanted to say hello! (Message edited by cwo4 on June 27, 2005) |

Welcome, fellow Blast owner. Take "The Riders Edge" beginners course at a Harley-Davidson dealer. They use the Blast in the class, so once you are done with the class, there will be no transition to your own bike. That is what I did. And now my wife is doing the same thing. |

OK I am not sure where to post this question so here it goes. I was at a street cruise saturday, and got tired of the rice burners doing wheelies past me. I attempted to do some, in a parking lot, but am not sure how. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get the front end up. I tried from a roll in second, holding the clutch in and revving then dumping the clutch, all that did was squak the tire. thanks. |

The blast won't wheelie, except under very abnormal circumstances. If you do manage to the the front wheel up, you'll probably break something or crash. If you want to wheelie, get a bike with a least double the horsepower. (Message edited by naustin on June 27, 2005) |

Oh, the Blast will definitely wheelie, ask EZ. He had to learn to keep the front wheel DOWN on his first ride (around the parking lot at the dealership, lol...) I could never get much more than a 10:00 or 10:30, and that was with the stock bars. I have the crossroads, and they have me too far forward to ever get the front up. That could be your problem... You know, ever since the exhaust replacement/intake work/rejet, I can feel the front wanting to come up, but it won't, since it would pretty much have to lift me as well as the front end of the bike. Personally, I like it like that, but to each his own. If you try this, that is equivalent to signing a waiver freeing me from any responsibility, but... You could try sitting farther back. Possibly even putting your feet on the passenger pegs and standing a little. But that's only from a theoretical point of view, and I'm not responsible if you try it and break your bike or yourself. lol... Good luck anyway. |

think I will wait until I can get a bigger buell. I just cant stand them bumble bees trying to act so cool doing wheelies and urging me on. I wanted to try but the more I think about it, I bottom my exhaust out on to big of a bump, and cant really afford to fix anything right now, so guess I will have to wait. thanks for the help. I did manage to show them up doing burnouts though. hehehe. |

NOthing better to do that day except roast some tires, try some wheelies, and cruise. Temporary insanity due to the heat I think. |

Practice wheelies going up a hill, then apply the principles when you are on the flats. Stunts are for girls anyways, ride and enjoy. |

Wheelies?....I'm with Naustin on this one ! I've done them with my 50 H.P. motor- and that wasn't even really trying. But with a more stock motor and skinny Belt drive- you're looking for trouble if you constantly try and wheelie. Get a better bike if thats the action you're looking for. BTW- Wheelies and stoppies wreck havoc on your steering head bearings ! In disguise |

The blast will do wheelies just fine, but believe me cause i know for experience, they will be very hard on the bike. |

Mutt2jeff, Clutch Pop Wheelies don't Count ! Real bikes- can Power up wheelie ! If you need to pop a clutch- and sit real far back- and yank on the bars, that ain't a REAL Wheelie ! LOL P.S.- my 50 H.P. (Blast)motor would wheelie from a Roll on in first gear, and power up a wheelie in 2nd and sometimes 3rd Gear. Lets see you do that with a stock, or piped modded Blast ! |

Well I'm alive after driving my new Blast to work for the first time today. I bought it Saturday and drove some Sunday but today was a real test. First, I had to contend with bumper to bumper traffic. It gets hot on the Blast when you are just sitting. But to cool off a bit, it started raining. I had rain gear....at home. Then at 40-45 mph, I hit a stretch of tore up road with the grooves they put in before they re-pave. It was touch and go to see if the road, or I, would decide where we go. But, it was fun! It's been about 18 years since I last rode, and in spite of showing up at my air conditioned office sweaty and disheveled, I really enjoyed myself. No point to this post, just thought I'd let you know. |

The yellow Blast is running! The ignition module cured all that ailed it! THATS A GOOD FEELING |

Jugallo, Its much more fun to out corner the squids. Anybody can twist the throttle on a high power sportbike and wheelie (without crashing is a different story).Learn to torture them in the corners. If I can ride a wheelie on a moped or a Honda Dream 50, you can surely learn to do it on a Blast (ask Bubba). Watch e-bay though for cheap replacement parts! I dunno about out cornering much on the blast, it corners well, but it's no race bike, I ride that thing and I can feel how nervous it is leaned over...but that may be pegs dragging. |

Unfortunately cornering on straight roads is out of the question. I will just wait until I can afford a new bike to do wheelies. Until then I will stick to just laughing at the squids |

You dont need a race bike to corner fast and just because you have a race bike doesnt mean you'll corner fast. I had a friend who would routinely outcorner squids with his Harley FXR (fast, but no 'race bike'). James (who posts here) has no trouble keeping up with the bigger Buells. You'll earn more respect learning how to keep up on a Blast, than just spending money on a faster bike. (and when you do get a faster bike, you'll know how to ride it) |

BMHD - I think it is you who is nervous, not the blast. Don't worry, I have the same problem stemming mostly from the amount of gravel strewn about the corners in my neck of the woods. |

Not it's just like, once it's tilted over dragging peg, the rear end feels...squirrely. it's not till the pegs hit. I hang quite well with everyone else in the twisties, but there's times(for example) in decreasing radius turns where the bike seems to want to wash out. Running the pirellis helped a lot, but I think my RPM's are too high a lot of the time too....hmmm, haven't ridden for 3 weeeks maybe I'm becoming delusional. |

Once the pegs are dragging, any bike do that! You need rearsets! |

Okay so how does the pro-series exhaust mount up? Do I need the stock mounting hardware? If so I'm going to have to buy some as I sold it all off and I'm getting my new exhuast tuesday or wednesday. Oh, and for brake fluid, just pick up some harley screaming eagle brake fluid or what? |
