Gearheaderiko, Reminds me of when I dropped my buell off to the same dealership I bought my bike from for the 3000 mi. service. When everything was said and done I had questions that no one could answer and when I went to leave one of the service guys said that it just got back from the mandatory 10 mile test ride so thinking nothing of it I jumped on and headed home when I realized it had the same number of miles on it when I dropped it off.. |

The latest rumor - now I heard rumor of a Supermoto - Blast - however, now this just popped up: HI EVERYONE, I'M JUST YOUR FRIENDLY/INSIDE BUELL- DEEP THROAT. I JUST JOINED TO SPOIL AND TEASE YOU WITH SOME INSIDE NEWS THAT MAY ROCK YOUR WORLD? I WANTED TO POST THIS ON THE BADWEB, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND OUT WHO I WAS, AND I WOULD HAVE LOST MY JOB AT BUELL. HERE'S THE NEWS : NEW FOR 2006, BUELL WILL RELEASE A NEW V-TWIN BLAST! IT WILL BE BASED ON THE XB'S FRAME AND ENGINE BLOCK, AND WILL USE A SHORT STROKE WITH SMALL BORE(883) CYLINDERS. THE BIKE WILL BE CARBURATED, AND CARRY A CONVENTIONAL FRONT FORK, ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER COST CUTTING FEATURES. THEY AIM TO PRICE THIS BIKE SIMILAR TO THE SUZUKI'S SV650. I HAVE SEEN EARLY PRODUCTION SAMPLES OF THIS BIKE, AND IT STILL LOOKS JUST AS SWEET AS THE XB'S. I HAVE SPOKEN TO A TEST RIDER, AND HE CLAIMS THIS IS AN EXTREMELY FUN BIKE TO RIDE, AND HANDLES AS WELL AS IT'S BIGGER BROTHERS. IT ALSO HAS MORE POWER THAN THE OLDER 883 SPORTSTERS. IN LESS THAN ONE MONTH, YOU ALL SHOULD BE SEEING, AND HEARING ABOUT THIS "BIG BLAST" AFTER THE DEALER INTRODUCTION PRESS RELEASE. DT (it would probably be in around 720cc with the Blast stroke) Things that make you go hmmm. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Yes - the perfect project bike - still - it would have to be made for me to believe - but I would buy one - the potential would be too good to pass up! With todays XB's there is just nothing really to do till rebuild time - lol - with this - all I see is endless potential and a world of aftermarket parts, and factory to easily adapt! - lol We shall see! That is the bike I've been waiting for. Wish I would have waited another year. Well, I guess a trade-in would be feasible! |

I wonder if this is gonna be another one of those "first year" bikes that have a few bugs that need working out... They could give me one to try out for a year or so... |

Since this is what a lot of folks want, you know it won't be happening. Plus, will H-D let Buell compete against the Sportster? That is what a superblast would do. (Although I would want one as well.) |

Why the hell would you buy a 600-700 XB instead of a 900 or 1200? Most buyers would opt for the XB9 rather than what essentially would be an XB6 or 7. The only way to sell an XB6/7 would be to price it like the current blast. If they do build a 600-700cc xb machine and price it around 4,000-5,000, now that's something to talk about, but then - Who'd pay 9,000 for an XB9?? If you as me, building the above mentioned "super blast" would be pretty stupid for buell. They would lose the Beginner bike market (the whole point of the blast line), and either steal sales away from the xb9 (if it is priced cheap like the blast) or end up with a bike that nobody wants (if it is more expensive -then buyers will opt up to the xb9 or 12). Just my 2 cents. They should keep building blasts, unchanged. It is cheap, (now) reliable, and is perfect for the job it was designed. Attracting new riders. An XB6/7 would prove intimdating for the new riders who are currently buying the Blast. |

For the price break of 5g's vs. 9g's - lol - a sporster 883 is hardly intimidating unless you minused 200lbs from it;0)_ GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Naustin - the idea would be for someone who wants to move up to a standard and not a lean-over sport bike. Or a sport tourer, kind of like the S3T. (Or the Concours.) That is what I want. Something I can take to Colorado a couple of times a year, yet still do local curvy roads. Unless Buell comes up with a "more upright" posture bike, maybe one that can do a long-distance 2-up, they are going to lose me to a Sportster or worse. I'd really like to stay with Buell, though. Personally, I don't think Buell will. I think they'll concentrate on street racers..... |

Gearheads 2 cents: Buell-HD, whats the difference?! Buell=American made sportbikes, a touring model doesnt seem to fit the Buell 'mission statement'. There are plenty of Harleys that can do that job. A detuned v-twin would have a better beginner powerband and better performance potential as well as appealing to those who want to ride but are unwilling to ride a single cylinder B-last (Yes, there are many jokes about the Blast). There is always a market for the inbetween bikes. People still buy an 883 when there is a 1200 available. If the 'Big Four' can sell a full range of bikes, why cant Harley/Buell? (remember Honda sold a Rebel 250 & 450 and who knows how many different sizes of nighthawks!) Anyway, since EZ doesnt seem to know who this 'post' is really from, we'll have to wait and see if its true or just somebody trying to stir things up. |

Between sales to the Riders Edge training centers, and some beginners, and some enthusiasts, I would predict that the Blast is their biggest seller. (I may be wrong.) I would stay with my Blast, except for a few things: With the crappy Missori roads, the Blast is too light for 65mph and faster speeds. It bounces all over and wind from other vehicles add to the bounce. Doesn't have a lot of power for dealing with 65+ mph highway traffic. I can get over 65mph, with not much left in reserve and the road has to be FLAT and it takes a long time to get much past 65. (I weigh 231) Can't do a realistic 2-up for any distance. I don't think I can do a 600-700 mile day on one, going to Colorado. It would be nice if Buell comes up with a V-twin Blast, or new version of the S3T, but I doubt they will. Fuell4buell - you shouldn't post as an Anony unless you are solid - just another opinion folks - maybe they won't have a Blast, maybe something else, or nothing - still that doesn't stop the reality from happening - a reality we have no foreknowledge of. All motorcycles are looking to get lighter, so -Wind - I'd get used to that. Your bike has other problems if it can't do that speed and better easily - probably a too tight primary adjustment. I've done those miles visiting my sister several times - easily doable - if a bit sore from the stock seat - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

EZ - My post was missing a fact, and a clearly defined point. The fact: is was very humid for the last 2 days, and I've noticed the Blast lugging at higher RPMs than normal. I assume the humidity is causing this and the bike isn't having problems. I've had my Blast up to 79.3 (on the GPS) but yesterday, during rush hour, in VERY humid air, it just couldn't get it on. I doubt my primary chain tightened up in the last 1000 miles, but who knows.... Either way, some more HP would be handy in rush hour, where speeds can quickly jump up to 70mph on certain stretches. I entered the highway during one of those stretches last night. My point is that the very poor Missouri highways are chock full of potholes, raised patches, raised "creases", ruts, gravel, and so on. The Blast is light enough that it feels and transmits every bump, and the front end does a lot of dancing around over 65mph. I can handle it, but I think something heaver will be smoother. Also, wind isn't a problem, nor the blast from passing vehicles, but the windshield catches "dirty" air from larger vehicles in front of me. I can deal with it, but I'd rather not. Again, I assume, a heavier bike will be a bit smoother. I love running about on my Blast. It is nimble and gutsy. The only time I am less happy is above 65mph. I do want to do some road trips to Colorado. A Blast could do it, but not for me. I want a Sport Tourer (or standard) that can do realistic 2-ups for a couple hundred miles a day. If Buell doesn't come out with one, I'll go to H-D. Unfortunately, I cannot afford a H-D tourer, so a Sportster 1200C will have to do. Not ideal, but OK for long-distance solo riding, or 2-up day trips. I've sat on the lightning and firebolt, and am not a fan of leaning over a lot. When I do get a larger bike, I am still keeping the Blast. It is a nice "around town and back roads" ride. I am not "dissing" the Blast, but I have my own opinions and desires. I'll be "voting" with my wallet next year. |

The Riders Edge program (at least North of town) are intending to keep the Blast for 5 years before replacing them. Evidently, they are hearty enough to do that. Some of the decline in Blast purchases might be from Riders Edge not having to replace them every year or two. Or not...... |

Try adjusting your primary to the loose side - you'll probably gain that lost top end - the manual and most shops adjust too tight. - A thought. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

I have an off-topic followup. The manual says to adjust to 24 inch-pounds, and back off. My wrench goes down to 25 inch-pounds minimum. Can someone try adjusting their Blast to 24 inch-pounds, and then to 25 and tell me how many flats different they are? That way I could do this myself by setting to 25, backing off to 24, then backing off the rest, which I "think" is 8 isn't it? BTW - My chain hasn't been adjusted since it left the factory. It still has the spacer. I'll be due for my 1,000 mile service ASAP. (Message edited by dustyjacket on June 08, 2005) |

I read that, and will try it this weekend. But, I was also hoping someone could find out how many flats between 24 and 25 inch pounds. I bought that darned wrench for the bike, before I found it wouldn't go low enough. |

I think production is down because of the fact there are now so many used Blast 'starter' motorcycles out there (cheap). Why buy new at $4495 and keep it for a year and sell it for $3000?. Buy used at $3000 and sell it a year later for $2500. (actual results may vary!) |

Exactly, although my wife (and I) will be keeping mine. So, Buell ought to subsidize my next bike, since we'll keep one more Blast off the road. In fact, if we decide not to do long distance riding (multi-day trips), my next bike will be a Buell regardless of the new models. |

Why a 600 or 700 cc Blast? Insurance! Dusty Jacket, hot humid air is thinner the the cold stuff, cylinder filling capabilities will be cut down and thus top end performance, you have rejetted? I just got back home from Mackinaw City this afternoon (been working up there all week)and the wife is nagging me about you guys being my new girlfriend cause the first thing I did was check here! Little does she know! |

Swampy - it is totally stock. About 1100 miles. Only service is change oil/filter (twice) change sprt*trans fluid (once), tear-down of top end due to PCV valve melting down into the rocker box. |
