I had to tear apart the cylinder head and up to drill out a sheared bolt and now I'm putting it all back together. My problem is, I'm going exactly by the manual on how to do this, and I'm using the Engine Rebuild Kit, Top End, but there are instructions and parts involved that I never took off the bike. Specifically: I've got the head and push rods back in, and I'm looking to reseat the lower rocker cover. There's a flimsy piece of metal on the underside of the cover that came off with the cover on disassembly. I do not recall ever seeing rubber/paper gaskets under the rocker box, only in between the top and bottom parts of it. However, in this kit there are two rubber/paper gaskets shaped as if they go between the head and the rocker cover. Can someone please tell me whether these two gaskets need to be installed? The manual says place new gaskets but if there were no gaskets there in the first place, then what? Help! |

Aw, crap. I was really hoping that wasn't the problem. Between work and more work and the HD dealership not stocking anything for a Blast, this is gonna set me back another week at least. It looks like hell is definitely going to freeze over before I'm on my bike again. |

Jonny, yes- James is right...they Will have that metal rockerbox gasket IN stock...coz it's used for all the Buells and the Sportsters now...and all you NEED is the one for a Front cylinder. Should cost you less than $10. P.S.- oh Please don't EXPOSE ME ! |

Very cool guys. Also, I just got off the line with the local parts counter and they told me that there's a brand new upgrade that's been made to that one-piece metal gasket. Apparently they went one step further and decided to coat the whole thing in "red rubber". So I guess now there should be no problem ever again with that gasket, right? |

I had a very small oil leak at top end and with a summer journey on the horizon, decided to go ahead and replace gaskets. Piston had just a bit of wear, so why not just replace that as well. I approached HD for parts and was told that the gasket I am seeking is now an "obsolete" part. Not going to make it anymore, but found one at another store, should be here in few days. Knowing that I was very impatient to get back on the road, he called me back and said he pulled a new gasket that was part of a sporty rebuild to give me and would replace it with the one on order. So, I guess since they are not going to make the "Buell Blast Gasket" anymore, I just need to ask for a sportser gasket? I am assuming here they are the same part, just packaged differently for Buell. Correct?? Not that I anticipate having to do this again anytime soon (fingers crossed). |

Yes! XL and XB gaskets work and they've updated the gaskets regularly since 2000 (one reason why yours may have been obsolete). Keeping a 'Blast only' kit doesnt make much sense. You'll find oil consumption is much less after doing the piston and rings. |

Themagater: There is a lot of EVO Sportster, BLAST, and XB Models GASKETS/PARTS that RETRO FIT each other ... What was the PART NUMBER on the "OBSOLETE PART" ??? |
