Tony - Hmmmm, now you've got me thinking, I live a stone's throw from Mexico, I wonder what fabrication there would cost. One thing not forget, move that shockmount if you can, a Penski would do wonders over the stock shock (that sounds goofy..) UltraLight Sportsman? Needs investigation, thanks for the tip!! -=]D_Storm[=- |

Blast that bike... I took my Blast for a trip into dreaded LA traffic. Had to go see a client and decided that the time saved in traffic / parking would make it worth it to pick up the bike from home. Reseda to Beverly Hills - quick and relatively painless. Worked around a minor problem for my client, then went to Glendale to drop in on the dealer and say Hi - only to find them closed for a week. Guess I shoulda called. Gassed up and rode to my sister's place in La Crescenta. During the whole trip on my Blast, I couldn't help but notice an odd sensation. Couldn't really put my finger on it - but it felt somewhat familiar. Maybe a kind of vague squirminess. My ear was also comlaining of a tinny metalic non-combustion ping. At my sister's place absentminded me finally remembered to look the bike over. The front isolator bolt - the one the dealer hadn't torqued properly when they installed engine #2 - was broken and the head was hanging close to an inch under where it should be. It felt kinda familiar 'cause I'd expereienced floppage at that joint before. To all you Blastards who's sh!t doesn't break at the stem, fall off, or attract bad mechanics - I envy you. -Saro |

Saro! Ouch! You were going to stop in to say "Hi" to the dealer. Maybe you'll say something else next time? May the new year bring ALL of us better luck... |

Saro-That's a familiar feeling/sound! Just had a similar feeling. The vibration becomes almost a bouncing at certain speeds... On the subject of timing: I am really strapped for cash because of Christmas, but I do have access to a timing light, as well as most other tools I'd need. Anyone want to give me a walk-through on setting timing? If I had $40, I'd get the manual. Thanks! |

mine was$70 and change - welcome to SF - Have you guys checked out the Kosman site I put in links - there are some serious Buellish ideas in there - esp. in the suspension areas. If nothing else their custom twin roadsport is nice ;0) |

Ebay - 40$ USD for a "new" Buell Blast(P3) 2001 Parts/Labor Manual. The comment on the Stealership is so true, mine wanted 60 bucks for it, so I got it online. I can't believe the price on the manuals, the book on my ZX-6R was only 20 bucks (and IMHO, it's better!). Still worth the money to repair things yourself. Other bad news... Anyone have the part # on that Metal headgasket? Mine's dead (and leaking bad!) at 4127 miles. If the paper is covered under warrenty, I'll run down to the dealer and see if I can get one off him (so long as he doesn't work on the bike!). Drat, at least it's getting cold now.. -=]D_Storm[=- |

Alright, I don't think I would ever spring for it, but has anyone priced the 17" wheel conversion from crossroads? If I keep adding things up in my head, I should just buy the X-1. hmmmmmmm chris |

Dust_Storm: when I noticed my Blast's rocker box gasket leaking, the bike was one month past warranty. I mentioned it to the service manager who suggested I talk with the gal who handled warranty claims and the like. When she heard "rocker box gasket" she immediately said that the leak obviously started while the warranty was in effect. So no problem, it was fixed (paper gasket alas) for no charge. So check with your shop and see if you should be as fortunate as I. I was cautioned to make sure to always let the bike warm up properly before riding. I've been working to update my Blast/thumper website. Comments are welcome. Prof http://www.dlux.net/~nhardy/index2.htm |

hey guys just wanted to drop a line and deliver some bad news. crossroads will not be putting out the 17" conversion for our bikes. i received an email from them this morning saying after trying they have found it is just to complicated and expensive to put this out in a kit form. i will be talking to mark on monday to find out if there are any other options he has thought of or is willing to do conversions on a case by case basis. stay tuned. |

Hey Rebel, thanks for the update on the conversion. I too received an email, but it had told me to give them a call regarding the kit. Must be to walk me through a conversion or something similar on my own. Oh well, to fit a 160 on the rear would be nice... chris |

yeah its an unfortunate case if they truely do decide no to go forward with the kit. we really do need a lil more meat back there. i'm wondering if there is an existing swing arm we could adapt? any one have any ideas? |

-=]D_Storm[=- I was finally able to get onto the Airtech website and look at the bodywork for that RZ350. Very nice...I still think I'd do the rearend I was planing with an old cafe style single seat. But with a set of clipons; that fairing looks very nice...more scheming needed. I'll have that in the back of my mind for a while. |

i have beenplaying with the idea of a fairing for awhile as well. i was actaully thinking of the aprillia rs250. i havn't seen one of them in person for awhile so i can't remember the rough size of the bike compared to the blast. another things to consider is has anyone actually seen the scale of a vr1000 fairing? i like the idea of having the half fairing. think that one would be to big? |

DP of SF strikes again - brought my bike in for its regular check up and everything goes as schedualed inc. the rockergasket replacement(I'd give the stock # they used except its not a HD # though they did use the upgraded gasket(metal)), I paid them twice as much as usual, and left thinking no more of it. 5 days later I get a letter in the mail detailing my service as well as items that needed attention - I guess a leaking rear brake cylinder and warped clutch cover are just minor things of no consequence or danger since they never even told me to my face - I would have had them fix them. I guess its time to brake out the tools and do the work myself - no big deal - their lost profit - but it goes to show you what kind of people they are. I've built VW's and was a machinist in the Navy. After re-reading the manual several times I'm sure I can handle it myself. My faith in HD falls though with all these sevice blunders, its just really poor customer service - its a damn shame their Buell products are so nice, I'd go elsewhere if they were'nt. So I'll learn to wrench on the blast, and perhaps later the next Buell I own as well. Their loss. As for fairings - a light fly fairing for me with an oval 7x4 inch heli lite light under it. Still love the bike though - its just too much fun! |

Saro: I have the frame mounted Crossroads rearsets. Unfortunately I don't have closeups, but you can see the bike in the "cool Buell pics" section under 11/19/2001. I am a digital dinosaur, but if you need something else I can try to get my step-son to do some more pictures. I hope this helps. Jeff |

I just wanted to send out a Big "KUDOS" to the Harley Dealer in Tampa, I took my blast in for the rocker cover gasket (I bought the bike in St. Pete) and they had it done in 1 day! (I told them it was my daily driver and they hooked me up). Definitly buying my next one from them! Doc |

Ezblast, Hope things at Dud Perkins have changed since '97. Had my S3 in there to have have a warped front rotor changed. Not only did they put a big scratch in my tank they clocked the rotor wrong when they put it back on. Greg |

Tony- How do you like your rearsets? Do you find the vibration to be an issue? How about ergonomics? What's the longest you ride? What's your height and inseam? -Saro (the nosey) |
