Yeah electronics do indeed "recalibrate" the speedo. Actually, it just translates x number of pulses per mile into y number of pulses per mile. The speedo doesn't get altered. -Saro |

thats correct, the black box gets plugged into the wiring harness between the speed sensor and the harness, it fits quite well under the seat, in the cavity on the (right?) side peg mount. The 2001 pully is larger in diameter than the 2000, so at a given rpm, the rear wheel is spinning a hair slower...the black box makes the correct "translation" to correct for this. I found that my bike gained some low end power, making takeoffs and accelleration easier, but lost 3 to 4 mph at the top. I believe the stock '00 Blast will do 98 mph (with V&H pipe and rejet), while post recall is about 95. This was on my personal bike...YMMV |

As you know - I've been modifying my Black Blast since I got it in 2001 - well I figured it was time to wick it up a bit and actually use the serious head gear that I had - so - I've had Andrew B-50 cams(same grind as the Pro-series as well) in my Black bike for a while - also the same grind as used by the new 883 Sportster - very nice and plenty of low end grunt, but they never offered much up top - now - New cams in the Black! The B-70's - got to do a test run before the sunset - Till about 3500 they feel almost identical to the B-50's, a bit crisper/faster, but then they kick in and the fun begins! Heck - I'm rarely below 3500, however, I'm sure now that the difference between the SE550's and these must be where they kick in - the report is that they(the SE) kick in a lot sooner - close to 2000 - which would be nice if I was a serious stop light kind of guy, but my fun makes this cam a great choice for me with simular power as the SE - just delivered a bit differently - lol - and the Portraro to Twin Peaks loop to back home was very nice indeed! Running 91 octaine - whats the highest compression piston in a stock Blast would you run? 11.5 - 12.5 - how high would you go?I know some performance cars are running 12.5, but what could a stock Blast engine handle? GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Okay, so what's the trick for getting the torx bits out of the inner rear fender? The damn things just it there and spin, I've tried vice gripping them but that didn't work either...How are you guys doing it?! |

The screw mount shaft is mounted in rubber and has been known to spin - use a vice grip on it and then apply the torx driver to the screw. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Hmmmm, did anyone notice if you disconnect the rear shock the swingarm will drop down nicely and you can get at those torx bolts without taking off the peg assembly, which is an enormous pain? I noticed after I got the peg assembly off unfortunately, but I think you can still change the belt without having to take that off. I'm going to pursue this and see how it works out, did anyone else try it? |

LOL - they just unscrewed for me - so that procedure would be new to me - lol - they must have used a lot of locktight on yours during assembly - fresh bottle - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Every time I take off the peg assembly it takes like 30 minutes. No matter what I use, universal joint, wobble head....it's just slow going. Or my blast hates me. |

I'm working on a solution to that - yea 500 is a bit pricey, however, with access to some tools alternatives can be made! GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Did you just offer to build custom rearsets for me for $150 shipped? `Cause I swear that's what I just heard you say. |

Naw, but taking measurements to build an inexpensive pair about that price or a bit less is in the works for this weekend - so I'll lay out a list then. GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Yuppers! Time to take measurements for my buddy's bike this weekend, the shifter used will be the Blasts - slightly modified and reversed - that was the hardest part to figure out - untill I started looking at dirttrackers and the S-1/Blast - then it became very clear in my mind what to do - flip it to face the other way with a slight outward bend added to clear the clutch cover - the rest follows ala either the Banke/Crossroads and the rest being identical even on the custom set-ups - key measurements are the bushing lengths and the plate hole spacing, the other key is what bolts are procured with longer lengths - the extra length to the spacer, lockwasher, and plates. This is sounding interesting......I've got a spare shift lever lying around if you need something to test on, I'm sure I could get rid of it cheap for the sake of advancing the buell aftermarket |

Are you just going to use plate steel for the brackets similar to the banke sets? What are you going to use to cut the steel and make it pretty? |

Dremel and Roto-Zip - using cardboard to do the mock- up measurements for hole placement and plate design - material is either a thicker alum. aka Crossroads, or plate stainless aka Banke. The spacers are easy - tube alum (using the harder stuff) - cut to size - the important measurement mentioned - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

That's good, that shift lever went goodbye today and I threw the other one on.....was coming to a stop and hit a few damn rocks that locked the front wheel up and dropped the bike at about 1 MPH. Stupid newbie mistake, I just didn't see that one little bit of dirt they had used to fill a pothole. About pulled my groin trying to hold it up, but it wasn't too bad. New shift lever put on, it somehow landed on the flyscreen and tweaked the mount, so I used a hammer and knocked that back out so it's about perfect, cleaned the clutch lever up where it got scraped...now I just need a new turn signal. The lens broke, but the bulb is still cool, just covered it with some clear tape so I can still ride. Guess I'm looking for some new turn signals now |

i gave my bike a sponge bath in the garage last night. It's 15 degree's outside, and the wind chill is down to 6. To think I took it for a ride just a week ago and it was 50 degrees then is just killing me, especially since I haven't been able to try out my new bars yet. As soon as it warms up, I need to drop it off at the shop for its 2500 mile service. |

Anyone had any luck ordering OEM parts online? My local dealer seems uninterested and has no inventory, so it's 2 trips. Thanks |

Saw a nicely taken care of red Blast as I was racing the rain to pick up a part at DP from work - took 4 blocks of rainy going home traffic to catch him - I shouted - "Ever hear of the BADWEB?" He replies - "Naw!" - I shouted back - "Hit the web and look up Bad Weather Bikers dot com!" - he thumbs upped, and we split off in different directions - nice guy - hope he drops by - lol - the black bike has really come into her own - between the questions, looks, and suprise factor - just keeps me smiling - and the now classic - "...It should be illeagal!..." runs though my mind - Potraro to Twin Peaks to home built into a lot of destination and back again type of things - and I still ride almost daily! Hi guys. I was going to sell my Blast to get an XB, the problem is I do not know how much to ask. It is a bone stock 02' that I bought brand new from the dealership last spring as a new old stock item. It has about 1400 miles on it. How much is a fair price to ask? thanks Bob |
