OK Have been talking to his Courtship and he is flat out building a powerstaion or somthing so he has handed this on to me to start on. Isle of Man 2005: If more than 2 of us want to go as a group and travel on the same ferry and stay at the same hotel or campsite as is your whim bookings need to be made in 6 to 8 weeks time. We have two options to make it happen, 1: We try to book it all ourselves and arrange from afar with some help of our UK friends. 2: We work through an exsisting tour operator. I have been in contact with Bill Roughton Bike Tours UK www.biketours-uk.com again and some basic facts about the IoM. Ferry tickets this year for a bike and a rider $270.00 US, Accomadation mid range twin share $40 - $60 US per person per night. Top end 4 1/2 Star $340.00 US room per night. This place might be out in the middle of the Irish sea but it aint cheap. Bill can provide a package Price for a group that would include. Pickup at Airport, 1 - 2 nights accomadation on the mainland, ferry tickets and transport Van for luggage etc to and from the event, 8 nights bed and breakfast on the Island return to mainland 1 night accomadation then return to airport. For this type of deal Approx $1500 US. If instead of MID RANGE accomadation we chose to stay in the campsite we can save about $500.00 US or maybe a bit moor. As far as bike rentals go he can arrange probably up to 15 bikes these are in the $110.00 US a day price, but can be cross insured for a second rider to share bike and costs. If this is the case a mini bus will be used to transport those not riding the bikes at the time. He says he can handel up to 30 people with out to much of a problem but he normaly works on about 20. I have now spoken with him a few times and if we book him as a group exclusily and he only has to deal with one of us inregards to deposits and bookings then there would be some savings at his end and he wo;d pass them along also at this point prices are based on 2004 prices and Ferry , race and accomadation may rise in the next 14 months. If we wish to go this way we need to have a deposit of Aprox $250.00 US per person prior to mid May so he can pre book Accomadation and ferry tickets while he is over there on the 2004 tour. This deposit may be forfited if we or he can not find a replacment on the tour if you back out. Let me know what you think via this thread if you are in shoot me an email at Paul@westonsi.com.au Europeans who have ther own bike can either join the tour or do it on there own and try to catch up with us on the Island. There is the potential for half the group to camp and the other half to stay in a hotel but this would mean the group would be split up most nights. Lets here from yer.} Dates Races start 1 st Sturday in June so actual race week is June 4th 2005 through to June 11th 2005 need to be in UK couple of days befor. The actual date we would travel to the Island is dependnt on booking the ferry and would be advised end of June 2004 so as to give you 12 months to arrange airfares and travel. edited by PaulinOz on March 25, 2004 |

Pick Pick Pick remember in Australia we only look at the big picture details are a hassel, so the dates are up there now. Just talked to Court he is excited as only Court can be. I have 3 commitments in the first 2 hours. Ther is also the posibility of adding on a 2 to 5 day M/Cycle trip to Scotland for some of the group but we can decide that at a latter date. |

Paul, I think I was on the line with Court when you called last night, at least I think he said it was you. This trip is another on the 'once in a lifetime opportunity' list, like the Newfie trip, and what it has become for me. Put me down as a very very definite. Lots of details to figure out, I get done with school in December and have NO idea what I'll be doing then. Sounds freakin awesome though. Alex |

Paul, Put me down as a definite. I know Grizzly said he also definitely wants to go. I'll give him a ring over the weekend. I vote for a campsite. Give's me more of the 'biking' feeling than hotels. I'm not that old yet We would probably try to meet up with everyone at the ferry. |

I'm not trying to be funny here but its better to go the practice week, you still get the weekend racing in but the racing as a spectacle is better on video. Most people go to race on the roads without speed limits and on race week the roads are solid whereas practice week there are plenty of other riders to mess around with but the roads are a lot clearer. For those of you who like the 'No Fear' statement try doing the course anti clockwise during race week...the term 'keep left' takes on a whole new meaning..... Get ready to ride after the course car has come by at the end of the race....you know its clear roads ahead...but don't overtake them, they get annoyed!! |

Don't think I can swing it but it sounds awesome. As far as camping, remember you are in the middle of the Irish sea, the weather can be great it can be crappy. A full week of rain with highs in the upper 50's F is entirely possible. When I have gone it has been hotels and well worth it. After spending a day out in the wind and the rain that warm dry bed sure felt good. Dave |

Thanks for the links Sean they may be very usefull if plan A of using Bill Roughton to organise a larger group ie: 15 to 30 dont work. Then I will still go but just organise between the guys who are still wanting to go. So far we have positive responses from Steve P Peter M Grizzly Court Vickie and me As stated previously we need to have deposits and resonably firm numbers by mid may, else I will contact those intersted individualy to see what we can put together ourselves. I am commited to going next year one way or the other. |

Hey all, I'm all set to be there THIS year. I'm flying to London, picking up a mate's bike, then riding around the continent for a bit before I head to the IoM. it's pretty easy to book everything yourself, and you can find MUCH cheaper lodging if you look. Let y'all know how it goes!!

"it's pretty easy to book everything yourself" I agree Mike but if you want to go as a group and stay at the same place, rent a number of bikes, and travel on the ferry at the same time that is when you need to be planning a long way ahead. Rex what more information do you require than is provided at the top of this page and via the link provided. |

Blake, just curious if I'll need to build a new shelf. Sounds like serious fun, if you start a 'strong maybe' list, put me on it. You guys are fun. (And you've never lived until you've had one of Pual's ommetletts while wathching the sun come up at Bonneville.) Is Rocket going to be the social director? We should have a race entry and I should be the rider. Not becasue I'm any good, far from that, but because it's a dangerous race and we wouldn't want to risk the health and well being of any younger more valuable men. I'm about used up anyway, no great loss if I fly off the road into the Irish Sea. I'll probably go. |
