Would a Dell Computer type business model work for Buell in the future? Factory direct parts, accessories, and....dare I say it....motorcycles? As far as distribution....what can Brown do for you? Service would be the only issue. Just kicking around ideas. |

Computers are made of commodity components: cheap, multi-sourced, interchangeable. Unless someone can figure out how to do that with a motorcycle, I doubt the model will work. |

It would be nice in some ways, all bikes could be for the most part built to order so you don't have excessive supply sitting around. I see service being an issue. Its not like you can just throw a Buell in the trunk and haul it off to Bestbuy. On site repairs could be done to a certain extent. |

I work for a company that supplies parts for Dell laptops. Trust me. You do NOT want Buell to follow dell's business model. Dell is really just a label company. They have forced everything overseas to contracted companies. They also rely on their part vendors to do all the testing for them. |

Dell's customer service is slim to none also. Last time I ordered anything from them for work, (would never do so for home) I started calling them Del-Mart. |

Dell's customer service varies depending on your warranty. If you spent a few extra dollars when buying the computer for the gold support, it is top notch. |

I guess my report on customer service was on the purchasing end, not warranty and repair. The agent got nothing correct, was unresponsive and went days with no response. This was for some $30k worth of server purchases. In that respect I guess it wasn't too much different from trying to buy a Buell from some HD dealers. |
