my sales manager went to a trining program from HD and Buell. Mr. Rodgers who wrights a cloumn in Power Sport magazine, conducted a large part of the class. The sales manager came back with "rodger" sales ideas. I'm fine with trying new ideas, but every article I have read that he has writen is some what in the range of telling people what they want to hear. In my opinion he sounds like a politician telling GM's and Dealer principles exactly what everyone in their sells team is doing wrong/ or not doing. I have little respect for someone like this. Any insight on this guys ideas would be great. If I am wrong about him I apologize in advance. Thanks, Micah |

I am not familiar with him so I can't really comment. What sort of ideas does he have? |

Really! he is the short little stumpy guy with way to much energy. he started at a dealer in Pa then moved into HDU about 6 years ago. he has worked on several projects for HDU but....he is following Bob Conway's footsteps. I enjoy his thoughts but like I have said before he in one who never really did "THAT" but thinks he was "all that". here is a link with a Pic. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www. dealershippublicity.com/How%2520to%2520Promote%252 0a%2520Dog%2520Book_files/markrodgersforweb.jpg&im grefurl=http://www.dealershippublicity.com/&usg=__ WGiejAR5FNvtBXNcrCbNQ6MaV6o=&h=173&w=130&sz=4&hl=e n&start=33&sig2=JZZ5Pk_UV1_a8Lu71IPkHw&um=1&tbnid= Atg1RnXC6MGrnM:&tbnh=100&tbnw=75&prev=/images%3Fq% 3DMark%2BRogers%2BHarley%2BDavidson%26ndsp%3D21%26 hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN%26start%3D21%26um%3D 1&ei=LvTlSd3XJtGUkAX6oZXDDA |

I have not worked at Buell in well over ten years and while there had no contact with anyone at HDU. That ad is interesting, there is a lot to learn for many HD dealers and really any brand dealer so it might be good stuff; don't know. |

I wonder what would happen if Dave and I did one of those seminars? I have opinions of all those "dealer performance" folks that go back to John Wyckoff. This is not the venue I'd discuss that in. I hope all dealers improve. Yeah . . maybe Dave and I should take "9 Ways to Sell a Buell" on the road. We do have an EXCELLENT track record.

I wonder what would happen if Dave and I did one of those seminars? I would love that. I would even pay out of pocket if it was not through H-D. seriously I think that would be the best idea I have heard in years. |

I've attended some of these "run around the room with a wireless mic" seminars and have yet to hear anything to me, as a businessman, that seems very persuasive. My question, since the time I first saw John Wyckoff doing this was . . . "if you've been doing these high priced seminars for 15 years . . . where are all the great dealers?". Harely-Davidson will never allow anyone to speak that is not scripted. Rich Teerlink used to invite me, when I was in the construction business, to attend dealer meetings just to give him my impression. It was interesting to see how nervous many of the dealers got having an "outsider" present. I think it was in San Antonio, perhaps Phoenix, where I last saw Mark and John perform. I'm afraid some dealers might be put off with my candor. But I will say one thing . . . I have NEVER, in the last 22 years, lived anywhere near a bad Buell dealership. |
