Hello Court, I'm cleaning up my 2002 S3T for the long storage and thought I'd get some input on some really small details. I put the first on 7000 miles this year with no problems but I do see some oil misting on the case separations:do I worry? Next the guard to hold my front brake hose caused some shine from rubbing, Any fix? I also wonder if it is worth the time and effort to bring my pipes back to silver. I have the time and don't mind the effort. Lastly ,at 10000 mi. I will go to K&N air filter but is the re-route of the breather hoses and 'filling the 3 holes in the snorkle' a worthwhile effort? I am a big fan of STOCK so I'm not looking to rebuild this better than Erik designed it. Thanks for this help and for all the help I've read in the archives. You can refer me to other parts of the site if you think it would be easier. Personal P.S. was that you I met at the 20th driving a white rented cage? Or were you the Grey-haired gentleman who parked his early Buell at the factory entrance? edited by one on November 20, 2003 |

Court had the white Crown Vic. The other guy was John Mikosh, with the RSS (Janice). He also has a prototype RR-1000 I have a 2000 M2 and am having the same problem with oil seeping around the cases. I'm just watching to make sure it doesn't get too bad. If it does, I'll tear the motor down and rebuild it, with a few more go fast goodies inside of it. Before I put my D&D system on my bike, I polished the headers with steel wool. Just keep going with finer and finer grades until they shine. It won't last forever, but if you keep up with it, they'll look pretty good. Alex Here is a picture of John's toys... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=3842&post=138403#POST 138403 |

Alex, if you sand the pipes first -- using finer and finer sandpaper (start with something in about the 300-ish range, on an inconspicuous area at first to insure you're pleased with the results) -- then use steel wool and Mothers, you'll end up with an incredible polished finish that'll only take a minimum of effort periodicaly to keep that way. Arvel: WOW...what a pleasure to see your name in here and best of the best for 2004 to you! My own babes were here for a week last week and it was the BEST Christmas ever. Tons of Jazz, lots of time spent on Guitar Row, the Living Room, Village Vanguard, etc. Ended the week picking up a special custom made Mandolin (enroute as we speak to a recording gig) from Matt Umonov Guitars. The one in the picture is one of Vickie's kin. He and his brother are an absolute hoot and reminscient of my two at that age. We decided to throw the Italians completely off and had the world's best BBQ air freighted to Gotham. All sorts of meats, beans, cole slaw, tater salad, ribs and various fixin's. All evening, I kept having to explain..."you don't need to save room for the pasta, there's none coming". They snarfed up the BBQ like a group of guys on a Pheasant Hunt in Northeast Kansas or construction workers with Chicken Fried Steak and a tub of Lone Stars are Joe Willy's. The coup de coup was watching Times Sqaure lit up from the dining room window. The Texas stuff was courtesy of my Astronaut Uncle who shipped cases of napkins, homemade salsa, cases of crud from HEB, Texas shaped cheeses, wicker baskets, pot holders and whatever..... Truly a top-notch whoop-it-up. Best wishes to your top-of-the-line cook too...I KNOW you ate well. Happy New Year friend... Court |

Court, Yes, I've been away for a while. I'm not sure which is worse. Doing the work that comes with 60% annual growth, or having to work through the cash flow problems associated with growth. An interesting side note, I now have gray hair. We had excellent meals over the holidays. Two with Bolivian fare. You've got to try the pork soup that is traditional for New Years. Haven't been riding in months. Plan on pulling out the S2 this spring. Heck, its 72 today, I may bring her out for wash and wax. Talk to you all soon. Arvel

Court, So you had yourself a New York City, Midwesterner, Italiano, Texas themed celebration! How disgustingly American of you. All the best to you and everyone. You have enriched my life. Arvel, You will ride with us to Arkansas in early April. Deal? Meet you in Talahina. Details to follow via email. Plan on a four day weekend of riding and great conversation with like minded fools. |

>>>You have enriched my life. Liar. I went to Henrik's and "enriched" his for a bit today. My guess is Melissa will allow me back late summer/early fall. I explained the way to reach a higher cognitive level through the ownership of more motorcycles...at least I was in the process when I was escorted out.... Dig this...I met one more of my heros today and a guy who told me how much he enjoyed my writing, then proceeds to show me one his bike...DIG IT...one of the 120 (there were 200 made) of the running (yes, he rides it regularly) Paul Smart Imola bikes in existence. Unbelievable and I snagged 147 pictures of the new Ducati range, Buells and a sprinkling of sexy Aprilias!

Just for curiosity sake Court, what type of camera are you using? |

An old rattling Nikon 950. I bought one of the early ones, anted up, and have resisted the pleas of my confederates to "go modern". I also carry 3 35mm film bodies on the days I'm actually weilding press credentials, but seldom use either. I'm dying for the D5000, but about $7,000 shy, so for now...it's the 950 which has shot thousands (I shot about 150 at the Javitts Center today) and will be in Brooklyn doing "doors" for a tabletop book this evening. I have the Canon Digital Rebel which takes phenominal pics. With the speed you were getting the pics up I was thinking you were using Digital. At the max pixel setting I can produce print quality images with about 70 pics for a 256mb flash card. My setup with 1 extra lens ran $1500. Admitedly as a novice I tend to use the auto settings but it works manually just as well. |

Dude...it *IS* digital but an OLD digital from the days of the $1,000 Nikon. I am a CHEAP bastard and, absent my using all the features, see no need to keep up with Henrik and the swashbuckling free spenders.

Stop baiting me Court! I was looking at Nikon 5700's today... but my Coolpix 950 just keeps rattling along as well. Though it now occasionally drops the batteries out the bottom if I bump it wrong, and sometimes reboots when I swing the body around 180 degrees too quickly... It has had one too many drops down stairs. Its still a killer camera. I want a coolpix 990, but only because it can reach one stop deeper into darkness, not for the extra resolution or other features. |

Is this the camera in question? Glad to hear the BBQ thing went off OK--funny that, at the very moment you called the other day, I was in the parking lot of the H-E-B store in Brenham, Texas, loading up on goodies for the weekend at Rancho Chingadero. Incidentally, what shoes go with an Armani tux under a black 'Stitch?? r-t |
