You got it! The Ulysses is perfectly suited for New York City. I've got enough luggage to carry everything from riding gear, extra rain clothing and so forth and still stuff in school books and a full size laptop. The power is perfectly suited for my needs. I, at about 6'-0" and 230#, find the front wheel heading skyward with just a tad of throttle. Anymore performance, for my uses, would be wasted. The Buell is a perfect platform for my needs with lots of room for navigation, communication and entertainment. I have stuff like antenna and flashlights in velcro holders all over the bike. I have an old touring "be able to grab a flashlight in 2 seconds" habit. The new Buells however have no need for my collection of hidden spark plugs I used to have taped to the frame. Perhaps one of the most appealing things about the Ulysses is that it's tall . . . real tall. This requires some forethought and practiced riding skills, I nearly dropped my yesterday. The "well worth it" benefit side of that equation is that I can see a lot. I {try} to always be able to see under the vehicle in front of me but New York City is always tossing the unexpected into the equation. The Ulysses insures that potholes and a world record density of road hazards can be dealt with in the normal course of things. It, to be honest, is just a really good motorcycle that combines fun and functionality. Have you ridden up to Angelo's hunting hideaway? I love the photos of the Alps and the antennas that are DOWN the hill from him . . . no kidding his place is on a mountain top above all the antennas! If you see him and Laura be certain to give them my best regards. Gotta go . . . looking nice again today. Court |

Hey Court Give a small town boy some advice. My daughter lives in Astoria & I am thinking of riding Ulysses for next visit. What, if any, special security measures should I take when parking it over nite? thx, |

Louis:
- KNOW WHERE YOU ARE PARKING - if you want to PM me the address or just the general area (I am VERY familiar with Astoria) I can send you a couple photos and ideas.
- CHAIN - I'd say TWO and they serve two purposes - One is to secure the other is to communicate "this is the hardest bike you'll ever try to steal".
- COVER - big fricking cover with a cable wrapped around it and locked. The cover serves two purposes as well - One is the "outta sight" function the other is that it offers an potential bad do-ers the problem of having to spend lots more time than they want. If you need a big Uly size cover when you get to town let me know, I have spares and can sure loan you one while you are here.
The important thing, just like wandering Times Square late at night, is situational awareness. Again, if you want to send me the address I can do some scouting and see if there are other bikes or parking in the area. You'll have no problems. |

You sure like them bright flashy lights, don'tcha? That ought to reduce your risk of getting rear-ended considerably! rt |

Thing . . .you'd have been proud of me yesterday. About 45 seconds after I shot the photo I sent to you of the gal laying in the grass, I go to turn a corner in a "bad hood" in Astoria in front of the projects. The car in front of me makes the left turn and suddenly, from the other side of the intersection, a car shoots in front of them, cuts them off and 3 guys clad in red sprung out and surrounded the car. Just didn't look like a situation I'd be able to or want to mediate so I opted for the "flight" response, floored it, headed for the curb, did a flat track style slide on, about 1/2 block of sidewalk, picked my gap between a couple parked cars and shot it. For a guy or my talents . . . no problemo. Perhaps, heck I don't know, Joey Chitwood and I share some DNA. I shot about 150 knockout images yesterday! The 3 I sent you were not suitable for public consumption . . but you gotta admit . . for a camera the size of a pack of cigs . . they rocked!

How does one go about getting added to the "not fit for public consumption" list? |
