Just how much fun can you have on a cool day as summer is drawing to an end? Well . . . Dave hit Gotham yesterday and spent the day with me pretty much doing what I do everyday. He'll be okay, he just needs time to recover. I will say that he handled my driving down the sidewalk better than Road Thing did . . . . . even the part where the guy in the white van tried to pass and I put an inside move on him by using a fire hydrant to set the pick. I did my gig and got him into the "no tourists" Woolworth Building. NOTE: I handed him a roll of blue prints and sent him to the security desk, well past the "no tourists area" to ask "is Buell engineering in this building?". The time the guard spends looking up Buell, or trying to, provides plenty of otherwise highly prohibited sightseeing. For those of you at Liberty today . . . don't miss the chance to poll Dave about his experience in the motorcycling and journalism business. He had some fabulous tales yesterday of his adventures in Ireland, the Isle of Man and rousting about London. I've got to tell you . . . since meeting Dave, who was sitting at a desk at the old 214 Jefferson Street Quonset (yes, it's capitalized) Hut in 1990, while Erik was on the phone . . . Dave has just continued to get more fascinating with each passing year. Here's a glimpse into yesterday . . . .
He survived this . . . Road Thing was scarred for life after this and drank heavily after a night of riding with me. Saro never returned to NYC after I "relocated" an undercover cop car about 2' to make room and Erik simply abandons me and rides with my wife. . . Dave did get to see some fascinating sidewalk navigating
Here's a nice photo to let you know that Darwin was on to something . . pan handler apparently reached the threshold of having enough change, collected in the stalled traffic next to Yankee Stadium on the Degan, and made a dash for it. . . . he made it, but just barely
It's always great to be walking down a street in NYC and finding a Dane holding an entire case of "25 YEARS OF BUELL"
. . . but alas, the two Democrats sucked me in. When I refused to go to a fru-fru French Restaurant they acceded to "another place" and took me to a "Alice's Tea Cup" where they both ordered fancy tea. The gal refused my, seemingly reasonable to me, to go next door and bring me a pint of Ripple. . . . tea people just lack humor
"Typical" . . no kidding this is just a neighborhood church . . New York City out the window photo
And of course, we had to do some landmarks . . .
We shot something like 177, including the models in Bryant Park, pics out the window during the whirlwind tour
My standard "out the window" inverted Gothic arches photo from sitting in traffic
Is it just me or does this look like an illustration if Hemmingway had included photos in "Old Man and The Sea?
If you ever get to Staten Island do NOT (it looks like you can't get in but I can show you how) miss Fort Wadsworth. There was a day when New York City was heavily defended by Fort Hamilton, on the Brooklyn side and Fort Wadsworth, on the Staten Island side, and both have fabulously complex stone gun emplacements that are in pristine condition It was a heck of a day . . . . I'll bet today is going to be better. I'm off to go start fueling bikes. The people in the world of Buell continue to amaze and amuse me. . . . incredible. |

Nice photos, especially that one of the Flatiron building--the light is awesome! |

When I was in 6th grade, I lived about 1/4 mile from Ft. Wadsworth. The gun emplacements really were something. |

I was out voted . . . herded kicking in screaming in my loudest "meat and potatoes" voice by two health nuts who forced me into "Alice's Tea Cup". No gangs . . . no marauding students . . . just cute little tables filled with business ladies lunching and having tea. I've got class this evening and may have to go to the 'Saur for a double remedial order of ribs.

Court may have been out of place in the tea room but frankly I needed to calm my jangled nerves after we chased the young couple with the stroller down the sidewalk with the F150 truck. They didn't even so much as flinch |

Dave, if Court didn't take you to the Dinosaur: 1) He should be horsewhipped. Go get a horse and take care of it. 2) You missed a unique and gastronomically delightful experience. Now, you're just going to have to come back to the Megalopolis. Let us know in advance, and we'll try to arrange a proper assembly of motorcyclists who are "Different in Every Sense" to help enhance the event. |

Dave--Did Court flash the strobes and bully pedestrians with the loud-hailer? Seeing NYC with Court as tour-guide is truly a unique experience. Having Henrik as part of the trip is the icing on the cake! rt |
