Hey Court, I could use some advice, and from what I hear, you are the man. First off, if this is not your area, feel free to tell me so. I am trying to have Buell warranty a failed VR/stator that stranded me on a roadtrip in AZ. Tucson HD claims that my accessory lights were the cause of the failure, as they were putting 'too much of a load on the charging system.' The lights are 2 55w driving lamps, as could be purchased at any automotive store/wallyworld. They were wired in correctly, via relay, triggered off the accessory port under the seat of my 06 Uly. After much phone time(several times on hold for 30 mins, pleading my case to my first rep), Buell DID warranty the parts, not the labor. This was the only accessory I was running, and it is my opinion that the uly CAN handle 110w of lights, plus more. The charging output of the stator speaks to this. No one has yet satisfactorily explained why it can't. What's worse, neither of the 2 reps I spoke to has ever called me back(I 'escalated' my case to another person after my initial contact). I last spoke to someone Thursday morning, after which I was told I'd get a call after more research. Friday, as I was driving from Tx to Az to pick the bike up, I called this rep 4 times, leaving messages each time(and knowing BCS is closed on weekends). Never got a response. I am prepared to continue calling and fighting for what I feel should be a warranted part, but is there another avenue I can pursue? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. |

I kinda got fired from my job as a Buell Customer Advocate. I am instructed to tell you "Call your Authorized Buell Dealer". |

I kinda got fired from my job as a Buell Customer Advocate. Unfortunate for us and Buell. |

That, sir, is a tragedy. From what I have read and gleaned from this website, you have been a tremendous asset to Buell owners. Whether or not that is at cross purposes with The Company remains to be seen. Best of luck to you. |

One of the neat things about owning a Buell is the average guy had an "inside line" to the factory through Court. It is sad that Court has been "fired" and the connection no longer exists, but it was probably inevitable anyways. As Buell becomes a bigger company, it will lose some of it's "riders are family" appeal and take on a more corporate image.... That being said, Buell is still a helluva Company with lots of good things going on!!! |

Portero, What failed, the VR or the stator or both? Where/how did the failure(s) manifest? If you don't have this information, it may be tough to argue your case. It seems like the accessory outlets should have a specified capacity or load rating. If your lights are within that specified load rating, you should have a solid case. However, 110W is a lot of added load, so you might want to measure/verify the actual power consumption of the lights. |

Blake, Both the VR and stator failed. It happened in AZ, after a week thru Copper Canyon(and a blown fork seal). It seemed to happen spontaneously, as the only indication was a check engine light, then no restart. Not to worry, though, after much ado about something, it has been warrantied and all my $$ reimbursed. BCS had originally only warrantied parts and I had to pay labor to get it out. Also, the lights were wired thru a relay. The outlet was only used to trip that relay. |

That's very strange. How/were did each fail? Do you know? |

Blake No idea how they both went, but from what I understand(which is not much), once the VR goes, if not attended to, the stator is soon to follow. From now on I will be riding with a voltmeter installed. |
