Heya Court and all,,,, To keep it short, I recently purchaced a 1995 S2 from an individual. When I attempted to title it here in Colorado, they had problems with the VIN. Seems the 5 in the 10th position should be an S. Trouble is, the AZ title has a 5, the motor is stamped 5, the frame is stamped 5 and the ID tag in the frame has a 5 in that position. I even had called Buell with some recall questions before I knew the extent of the problem and they couldnt pull it up with the 5 but when they changed it to a S it was finr and pulled up my pearled white S2. Now Coloado wont title it without a new VIN verification (the one I have now shows the # with a 5) showing a S in that position. I dont know as yet how the previous owner titled it (probably had a cousin in the MVD). Granted I havent called Buell CS cuz I just found out the depth of the problem and they arte closed, but I just wanted to see what you (Court) might think about it. Thanks for any input,,and happy birthday,,, JM |

Thats why, hypothetically speaking, if a guy were to have a 2000 M2, again totally hypothetically speaking, and noted during a call to Buell Customer service about, oh, I don't know, maybe a shock recall or something, that the VIN on the title by both the previous owner and the current owner had the VIN wrong (say a 5 was an S or vice versa). Hypothetically, if that guy was to just shrug his shoulders and give a stupid look when the guy at the title office when he said that vin shows no valid manufacturer, and were to say "well, it's a Buell, its parked right out front" then the title guy would probably just peck a few keys and enter the title anyway. At least in Ohio. In the Forest Park title office. Hypothetically. The power of suggestion works really well during the VIN check on an out of state transfer by low motivated DMV employees as well. They look for a 5, they see a 5. They look for an S, they see an S. Hypothetically of course. I can't imagine how much time and heartburn it would take to get something like that straightened out with the DMV. |

You should here the tales of when there WASN'T SUCH A THING as a Buell and the choice, while folks were getting impatient in the line behind you, of choosing between a Bricklin and a Buick.
