Steve: I'll get you the pictures. That is one of the niceest looking websites I've seen. Clean, neat and inviting. Remind me after Bonneville and let's try to populate the history page with some of the stuff I've collected. Thanks for the nice job. Vic: . . . you ANIMAL, Be sure to check out THIS LINK first. Used Viggens and NEW ones at the dealers are going for a song. |

Court, Is it not a fact that the lighter flywheels are the reason for the shock failures due to the difference in harmonic vibration? For your little riddle, is this any closer?

Court, Saabnet use to be a favorite site for me when I had my SPG. I think I'll have to start hitting it again. And you are right, there are Viggens listed at around 30k in there! Even a new Black one :) Vik |

Court, I'm curious about your statement: "If you need something to ponder your weekend...work on this...IF, just IF, Harley-Davidson had never entered into a corporate allegience with Ford, there'd be no SRP." Are you saying we wouldn't have the band-aid fix - or that we wouldn't have the shock problem? That, and the 'blindsided' statement. What are you actually saying? RF |

... still wondering what Mr. Canfield is referring to. Where does Ford figure into the SRP discussion? RF |

Having no inside information, but having worked in an engineering environment, and having read a few financial newspapers and web sites in the past, my totally uninformed opinion and assumption, which is probably and truely totally unfounded, which is more of a semi-illiterate uneducated guess, is as follows: The SRP looks like it is either machined, or cast, or both. Who has a lot of history with suspension systems? Ford. Who has access to a large foundry? Ford. Who has entered into some type of some sort of agreement with H-D? Ford. If you either needed or wanted to fast-turn-develop a shock fix in the fastest and minimum amount of time, who _could_ you turn to? Ford, maybe? Having recently interviewed with several Ford and GM sub-contractors in the last several weeks, I can easily see how utilizing a large manufacturer would make fiscal sense for a time-critical situation. Of course, I'm probably wrong, but I'll look closely at my SRP tomorrow (assuming I get it back tomorrow) and see if I can find any little Ford TM logo's on it. I have based this posting on no insider information whatsoever, no hacking nor peeking nor snooping was involved, this was simply a raw guess in how things might have transpired. |

The "fix" on my "00 S3 is a not so funny joke. Apparently designed only to keep the bike from hitting the ground when the shock lets go. Makes adjusting the pre-load a new hassel. I love my little Monster Hunter. It and I deserve better. A perfect shock is possible. If they can knock off two grand they could have put that into a Penske or?... Galen |

The connection with Ford is simply htat the Ford test track has a different surface than the Harley test track. Changing to the Ford test track caused the test failure. The testing on the shock was finished long before the failure. |

Anonymous: Precisamundo...... The Talledega track that we'd used for years is rough as a cob. The Ford Super Proving Groundsin AZ are smooth as glass and allowed the problem to manifest itself. You win the free Buell t-shirt.....wait....I'm sure you have plenty there in Waukesha County ! and the 2nd bennie of the Ford connection is the killer deal the Ford folks in Dearborn presented your's truly on a spankin' new Jaguar ! Hey...5% is 5%. Court |

Correct. The Talledega facility, used for years, is rough as a cob. The Ford Super Proving Grounds, with it's ultra smooth surface, allowed the latent problem to manifest itself. This is the 2nd best thing about the "Ford Connection". The FIRST is the Jag they set me up with in AZ recently on an "I Spy" trip to Hacienda. Does Buell ever recall dealers ? Ride safe, Court |

Court replied: Does Buell ever recall dealers? ----- Humm, E'gad(s) ... you can't recall a dealership that places #6 in the Pegasus Award Winners for 2001 (of course they told us they were #1). It's pretty obvious to those of us that have to deal with Hacienda, that the Pegasus Award is a joke. More smoke and mirrors for those willing to digest it. It has nothing to do with service or customer satification ... rather sales. Although I hate to admit it, I stopped in there over the weekend. One reason was to give 2 of the Buell gearheads a LSR t-shirt and the other reason being a friend of mine wanted to look at an S3. We were there for ONE hour looking at Buells (new and used) and no one confronted us. You're quite aware how LARGE their store is so I won't have to describe it. Their Buell clothing display was ONE SMALL rack, approximately 30" wide and 48" long. On one side were a few Vansen leathers (maybe 4 jackets) and the other a dozen t-shirts (maybe) all small and medium, 2 hats and 2 pair of funky looking gloves. Hey, not bad for dealership placing #6. They did have 12 Blasts and more than a dozen or so Buells! It's to bad some of the dealers don't appreciate the Buell lineup as much as those owning them. I don't think I've ever owned anything in my life where this scenario took place. S'later, -JW:>) |

Court, Who can I call in Buell customer service about my warranty claim on my gas tank? I spoke with a guy by the name of Ed (customer service) back in January. According to the dealer, Mancuso Buell here in Houston, Buell customer service approved the replacement back in May. I have sent letters to Buell customer service with copies to the dealer, but they don't reply. I also have checked with the dealer and nothing? Help Ole' wise one. Thanks, Mark |

Joel wrote: That's more than most Buell dealers have! ----- All serious aside … E’gad(s)! You mean we’re part of a privileged and exclusive Buell group here in Arizona? As large as Phoenix is (and the surrounding metropolitan area) I can’t understand why we only have one authorized Buell dealership. Plus it’s beyond my comprehension why they refuse to see how infatuated we are about our Buells and share that passion with a sound customer relationship. It’s like they have a gold mine and don’t realize it. There must be something going on in the background between the dealership and Buell that we don’t know about. I wish HD/Buell would send out a dealership evaluation form of some sort and everyone fill it out honestly (meaning not letting their infatuation get in the way of the evaluation). Cheers, -JW:>) |

I just got my "00 S3 two weeks ago, and the dealer heree in Tacoma told me I would be getting an evaluation for the dealer from Harley in the near futur. And that the dealer would pay me $50. for filling it out. I can hardly wait to tell them (Buell/Harley) About my experiences allready. Really, Galen Out... |
