I've always been the sort who likes to be taught. No need for painful lessons gained through experience when others have already suffered for you. I always try and watch those who know more than myself. It was no different with motorcycles. I stumbled upon Badweb, and started sucking up it's wisdom. You don't have to hang around here to long to figure out that the font of Badweb wisdom is Court. So if Court said it, I would do it. I can't say that Court ever steered me wrong, but things sure don't always work out like I expect them to. The first incident involved the proper way to transport a motorcycle. In what was later revealed to be an incident involving the consumption of alcohol, Court apparently talked someone out of shipping their bike because "it's a motorcycle, it's ment to be ridden." So when I bought my Cyclone, from a dealer 400 miles away, I naturally flew up to ride it home. Did I mention that it was March? In Pennsylvania? It was dark when I left the dealer. The temp was 23F. It was so cold my cell phone was frozen and the bike wouldn't warm up. Every mile or so it would sputter and visions of freezing to death in the PA woods would pass through my mind. I don't think I've ever been so cold. The next incident resulted from a simple comment: "have you ever whacked the throttle open in 2nd gear?" Why no, I never had. There was the split second where I thought I might actually fall off the back of the bike. Followed immediatly by the realization that the hand holding me on the bike was also holding the throttle wide open. I did eventually manage to release the throttle and the front wheel came crashing down. I had to look around to answer that all important question: Did anyone see. The final incident revolved around the Daytona 200. Court wouldn't come out and say it, but the message was clear. The XBRR was going to kick everyones ass. We should all be there to watch it happen. So I ride the 600 miles down to Daytona with only 1 question in my mind: which one of the 4 XBRRs isn't going to be on the podium? It didn't quite work out that way. Of course getting to stand around in Nicks front yard and talk to Erik made up for it. I'm eagerly awaiting my next Court inspired incident. |

Court talked me into walking around Wisconsin in a Pink hat despite my better judgment this past Homecoming. I had a great time, even if I was one of only a hand-full to follow through on the plan. I can't wait for next homecoming! |

Brian, he talked me into one, too. Of course, I'm the guy with the pink shotgun, so it wasn't really a hard sell. rt ...it was great meeting you and your son, by the way... |

>>>>Court talked me into walking around Wisconsin in a Pink hat You'll thank me someday. . . the only one who really wussed out on the pink hat was Mr. Macho Buell! Pink hats are very cool and I think, by DaveS having to reorder 6 times, we made a point that a "proper Buell sales strategy" has merit. Other dealers tossing them under the counter, Dave couldn't get them fast enough. Point is you have to SELL it, not just have it. There's a more powerful lesson there than you may realize. Thanks for your help! |

I once took the XB12R out for a test drive. I didn't whack it open in 2nd, but I did ease it open quickly, and noticed I was looking up instead of forward. I eased it back down, and decided I really want one. Once I talk my wife into it, I'll have to argue with my daughter, who will probably want to ride the Blast as soon as she's old enough. That's another digression ... |

Bomber was born "sometime during the Eisenhower Administration". Hell, I remember the Eisenhower administration. It was severely preoccupied with wars and golf. Jack |

I think Bomber's gilding the lily just a little with that claim about being born during the Eisenhower administration. Methinks the blessed event occurred during the Truman epoch... rt |

I'm curious what we are going to be like in the old folks home. Maybe challenging each other to wheelies in the wheel chairs. |

It's been an accurate statement for years..... Euro manufacturers have been delivering good and very exciting times, and more. Should I quote Steve Jobs? Buell is selling better in Europe than the US. Apparently some Euro's are convinced the Company has given an answer. BTW, I have been meaning to ask you to give me your Ducati. I'll pay the freight. That's fair. Do the right thing...give me the Duc. |

Hmmmm... Rocketman, I might give you: MV Agusta Brutale 750 MV Agusta Brutale 910 (also a bit "brutale" on the physiology...not that THAT would stop me ) Benelli TNT Benelli Tornado CCM FT35s CCM R35 CCM R30 BMW R1200S BMW HP2 Enduro (just 'cause Buell doesn't make anything like it) BMW R1200R BMW K1200R Cagiva Raptor 1000 (unfortunately never available here in the colonies) Ducati Monster S4R (truly badass 'sicle, but that radiator! Oy vey!) Ducati Sport Classic GT1000 Ducati Sport Classic Paul Smart 1000LE Ducati Sport Classic Sport 1000 KTM 990 Super Duke (a water-cooled S1+! Ever gonna actually happen? We're waiting...) Hunter S Thompson quoting an Angel in 'Hells Angels'? The point I was making is not a reference to how fast or slow, light or heavy, fun or no fun. Simply, since the XB9R we've seen nothing from Buell except several more XB9R's. They're just reworked somewhat modified variants of the same bike. Even the XBRR isn't that far away from an XB9R in many ways. The list I penned above contains completely brand fire new motorcycles. Even the Monster S4R had to have a complete new chassis design, so qualifies in my book. And I forgot the Multistrada and the soon to be launched Super Mono. Where's Buells new model? Jon, no you can't have the 916, lol. Rocket |

Hey Rocketman, I'll take my time getting the most out of my old '03 XB9S, the best motorcycle I've every owned/ridden. What's the hurry, anyway? New stuff will come when it comes, right? |

It's not about the hurry. It's about the doing. By Court's well mentioned scales of falling sand through the hour glass my estimate based on such tells me the Ugly has been in development for several years. As has the 9's and the 12's. I guess the RR wasn't dreamt up overnight either. The problem I have is wondering why and when Buell just might break out the champers and give the world a super cool new version of a very hot hot hot S1 type of Lightning. They do say there's always a lull before a storm. Well the XB chassis has surely been a long period of lulliness, so where the freaking beans is the Lightning Strike that will set the world on fire? Simply, since the XB9R we've seen nothing from Buell except several more XB9R's. They're just reworked somewhat modified variants of the same bike. I think you're going to be disapointed. As near as I can tell, Buell is very proud of the XB frame. I wouldn't expect anything to come out of Buell in the near future that didn't incorporate it. |

Nor do I. That's exactly my point Jim, which is no bad thing. The XB's don't do it for me that's all. Rocket |

Rocket, I guess you think the Uly is ugly. I personally dont spend near as much time looking at mine,as I do riding it. It has been, for the first 10k miles a bike like I have never owned before. I spent several years riding BMW motorcycles, and have seen an innovator go from Quality bikes to a company that will turn its back on the owners, and they have lost the craftsmanship in the name of bottom line. This bike is more fun than a truckload of bananas at a monkey whorehouse. I can tour 2up with anything on the road, and rail the twisties better, faster and easier than on anything I have ever owned in 33 years of motorcycling. It is a wonderful motorcycle, and I cant see spending 3 times the money for something I cant maintain, and have little or no dealer support. I am a rider, and not one for parking a bike in my living room because I can. I bet a lot of the bikes on your list do just that. The exotic bikes are nice to look at, but for all around fun factor, and real world riding, the XB platform is as close to perfect as it gets for me. |

Rocket, I guess you think the Uly is ugly. No not at all. It's a nice looking bike in the genre it's in. There's a difference I find between US and UK markets in respect of the list I posted. Most those bikes under Brit ownership would get used I think. Maybe it helps having us all squashed in like sardines as it won't be too hard to find a repair service centre and the distance traveled will be nothing compared to what could be necessary in the continental US. Sorry about the Ugly comment. I was just funning with words. Rocket |

I have to agree about the market. The closest Buell dealer to me is an hours ride. I learned a lot about commuting on a bike while in England back in the 70's. I think you have a more serious attitude about riding in general than the average American. No offense taken on the ugly remark. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I prefer the looks of the BMW 1150 GS over the Uly. The GS is so much uglier it looks like it fits the purpose intended. Function over form perhaps? Rocket |

the little time I've spent in Europe tells me that the average rider there will ride circles around pretty good club racers here -- I watch the Bike messgaers in Dublin do things that a sane trial rider would never consider -- euro-riders are much better than most US riders, and thier scoots get ridden |
