I don't think there's a motorcyclist from the NYC metropolitan area who doesn't know Gasper Trama. I think he's taught 80% of the area riders either how to ride, or how to improve their riding skills. If a movie was shot in NYC that called for the star to ride a motorcycle, Gasper was the one the studios hired to train their stars. He's trained Alan Alda, Scot Baio, Liam Neeson, and Sonia Braga to name a few. This afternoon, shortly after lunch I received a devastating E-Mail. Gasper Trama passed away this morning due to heart failure following surgery. He'd gone into the hospital over the weekend complaining of abdominal pain. A CAT scan revealed a mass in his lower intestine that turned out to be cancerous. The surgery was performed yesterday and was successful. Everyone figured he'd be home recovering quickly till this morning's awful news. When I hear about the wake/funeral I will post again. Rest in peace, Gasper. You will be missed. |

That is very sad news. Gaspar has been the voice of safe motorcycling in New York City for years. He was a legend in the local riding community. I am very sad to hear this. Court |

The family requested, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Lady Liberty Inc., in care of Claudia Hershow - http://WWW.LADYLIBERTY.COM Mrs. Trama personally stated that motorcycles are more than welcome at both the viewing and the funeral. |

It's always sad to lose another Rider. Especially one that gives so much back to his fellow bikers. Godspeed Gasper Trama! |

There was a mistake in my last post. The website is http://www.ladylibertyride.com/ and the woman's name is Claudia Hirshon. My apologies for not checking before I posted. All of the information can be found on the MANYS website at http://www.manys.org/index1.htm (look on the right hand side of the page). The first session this afternoon was mobbed. I expect tonight's to be even more crowded. Sunday night should be incredible, as the two-day Ramapo 500 event will be over and the participants will be able to come down and pay their respects. |

All motorcyclists wishing to participate in Gasper's Funeral procession Monday morning, July 17 should meet in the parking lot by the funeral home at 8:30 AM. There will be a police escorted procession from the funeral home, past Gasper's house and finally ending at the church. The family is having Gasper cremated, so the procession will end at the church. Once again, the funeral home is: Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home 34 Hempstead Avenue Lynbrook, NY 11563 516-599-3600 http://tinyurl.com/za6u5 The Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Raymonds 263 Atlantic Avenue East Rockaway, NY 11518 http://tinyurl.com/hlaot |

I've been out of touch; sorry to hear of Gaspar's passing. We've had a few safety discussions over the years, but not so many in the past few. Jaime, didn't you work for him back in the mid-90's? He will be missed, for sure... |

I worked for him from 1990 all the way up to 2004. My certification lapsed this past March because my "real job" didn't give me enough spare time to teach, and I had to do two full BRC's every two years to keep it. I still used to stop by the range to shoot the breeze and often passed by his house when I could. I think I've finally come to grips with his passing, but I'll never forget his easy smile and natural talent and love for teaching. It was a pleasure to work for him, and an education to teach with him. |

There's a new magazine in town, LI Rides, and in the October issue there is a full page tribute to Gasper Trama that I authored. If you live on Long Island, visit your local motorcycle or automobile customization shop and ask for a copy. |
