Friends and neighbors, it appears that Court has weaned himself from the public tit and re-joined the ranks of the gainfully employed. Let me tell you how I picked up on this shocking piece of news: As I am prone to do from time to time, I called the Canfield residence this morning around 10:30 to remind Court that it's time to get out of his pajamas and hit the streets in search of inspiration for tales with which to entertain his devoted Bad Web readers. Imagine my surprise when the lovely and talented Mrs. Canfield answers the phone and tells me, "Court's not here, Tom, he's at work." in my best Maynard G. Krebs voice... WORK??!! At this point a semi-serious problem develops: I'm heading north on the toll road in the Caddy at, um, exACTly the posted limit (yeah, that's the ticket), and suddenly the inside of my windshield is covered with a chunky slurry of coffee and half-chewed breakfast taco. The wipers are on the wrong side of the glass, so I grab the first piece of paper I can find to clear a spot so I can see to steer. By the time I've got a peephole between the lumps of huevos revueltas y chorizo, I've missed my exit, and am rapidly heading for Blake's neck of the woods. It turns out the piece of paper I used for a handi-wipe had the address and phone number of my 11:00 appointment on it, and the ink was NOT coffee-and-chorizo-taco-proof. Just as well that I missed the meeting, because I was not my usual, dapper GQ-type self due to the significant blowback from the inside of my windshield (note to Blake: Snell's law applies to chorizo chunks. Never mind how I know.) Now, does anyone know how to get assorted nasty stains off leather seats? r-t p.s. While I was waiting for my car to come out of the wash, I reached The Man His Own Bad Self on his cell-phone (my cell service wouldn't access the (900) area code land line where Court's working now-he says that's an exclusive NYC code) and he confirmed the story. He couldn't talk long, but his office sounds like a great place, lots of sexy female voices and heavy breathing in the background... |

Maynard G Krebs was sidekick of Dobie Gillis on the Dobie Gillis Show--Maynard was allergic to the mere idea of work. And this was way before Gilligan's Island, but I am sure you can see him in there. How old did you say you were? |

Bomber, I've probably already told you more than I know about Court's job. The simple fact that someone hired him (hick accent and all!) just amazed me! I'll be happy to serve as Mrs. Bomber's Houston tour director. Ping me at the profile address and let me know her schedule and likes/dislikes. r-t |

Firemanjim . . .. . an obviously failed attempt at humor, and an equally failed attempt at refusing to acknowledge my chronological age . . . the quote Thang used is frequently heard around my house, sometimes from my 18-year-old daughter . . . .thank goodness for Nick at Night and it's providing role models like Maynard, and insightful political commentary of Rocky and Bullwinkle Thing . . . .wilco, sir . . .. . and thanks (clearly, Mrs Bomber has a weakness for middle-aged war criminal biker trash . . . you and she will get on splendidly) |
