Forgive me....and if you insist on "moto-contect" head back to the main message board. Yesterday I had to drop off a package of "what to see and do in New York City" for a visiting Buell buddy from Amsterdam (aren't they ALL from there ) yesterday and, in view of the fact that some of you are fellow students of the "human condition" I thought I'd share. Court Note: Black helicopter....relax, they were just filming for a movie Note: Wall Street is always spectacular, the blue sky just makes it more so Note: WE call things walking aimlessly about with maps and fingers in noses "tourists". No joke, Vickie and I watched some gal, with an infant strapped to her chest and a cell phone to her ear try to race across 55th and beat a taxi...we call THEM the mentally deficient! Note: Ok...this group of "tree huggers" is having a sit down sort of protest (why do they only do this when the weather is good?) and a homeless guy, referring to their McDonalds diet, stands by screaming "You're all a bunch of F***ing Pigs"...only in New York kids...Only in New York Note: To those harboring the same inaccurate sterotypes I held when I moved here, please note squeaky, nearly sanitary subwy car interior. It was NOT this way before Rudy Guiliani Note: Scary folks in the subway. Seriously, given the same common sense you'd use in Denver or Dubuque, it's the BEST way to traverse Gotham Note: Awesome or what? I am sitting, writing and I look up to see this at 4:50pm. New York, on a daily basis, is like living in a post card. Sorry....I am going to seek out some motorcycle content next. Court |

CJM: Too funny.....trust me on this "Long Island is to New York City as Waukesha is to Chicago" Gotham is Great, Long Island is a SENTENCE. This is where you need to be, right where Blake and I were raising hoopla, in the middle of the action.... Court (By the way, I collect my "New York Street Scenes" photos...suppose we should do an expose')

Court, I totally agree !! It's just that I knew people who lived in Long Island and no one actually in NYC !! But I left there as much as I could to get into NYC while visiting !! And was glad for the opportunity to visit, or I would not have probably got to ever be in NYC ! My son's girlfriend is living in Manhatten now, going to college, originally from New Jersey !! How's that in relation to NYC ?? CJM |

Manhattan? That's just some little island named after the natives who sold it for a few bags of baubles. Or it could be a a city of northeast Kansas west of Topeka that is a processing and educational center. Population, 37,712. |

And in the weather...."a blizzard strikes New York City". I am from Kansas, where "substantial snowfall" often yeilds conversations like "was the car in the driveway....I need to know where to shovel for it?". This morning, this is what I wake up to. Run to the store to see the friendly Ace hardware guy stacking snow shovels, snow blowers and salt on the sidewalk in front of the store. Tune in the public radio station to hear about the "potential windfall for snow removal firms..". Ok....but, if it gets any worse, I am not going to be able to go out in my Chin Galante slippers.... Notice the drifting ....making travel hazardous |

Mr. Thing: Let me know if you are going to have any spare time or need anything whilst in Gotham. I'm, at least for the next 4 months, retired and have a fairly, er "flexible" schedule. By the way, I finally found GREAT Tex-Mex in New York City but you have to go to a 'hood you definately need a local to do the "in and out" of. It should be gorgeous when you are here and do not miss the tree at Rock Center. I'm headed down this week to join the Carly Simon, Sheryl Crow, et al gig (Electric lights on the tree always make Xmas a GREAT time to be a Union Electrician ) Court |

Court, I was hoping you actually got snow blasted out there because it is today dammmmmnnnnn cold. I am freezing my little titties off... OK, are you avoiding the possibility of hanging out over the last week of December? You can bring Vickie so you 'behave' yourself !!! Yadda yadda yadda... Charlotte PS Absolutely GORGEOUS morning in Northern Wisconsin, very very magical and white and holiday-esque... but COLD !!! |

Charlotte: Hehehehehe.....if we are in town, I'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction to get around town.....even YOU can get in trouble in NYC By the way, you will not want to miss the National Museum of the American Indian. I am going to dig up the old piece I wrote, sitting next to a Buell on an Indian reservation, about 7 years ago. We are about 15o below "normal" (like anything in NYC is....) and it's supposed to be single digits tomorrow. The "good thing" is that I'd like to take in Sheryl Crow and Carly Simon tomorrow and the temps may keep the tourist crowd down. Court |

CITY UNDER SEIGE -- February 14, 2003 - I'm sitting here watching Mike Bloomberg explain that cities filled with mahcine gun toting law enforcement folks and duct tape auctions at Ace Hardware are all "normal precautions we'd take, even in the event the lights went out at home" I'm not certain I beleive him; you decide for yourself. That's the Coast Guard in front and, nearly out of view are the 2 blue NYPD boats and the F-16 in linger mode above I never failed to be amazed at how beautiful the city is coming accross the water. This is still the safest big city in the United States and one of the safest in the world. Home to 37% of each years Ford Cown Victoria "Police Inceptor" output. Nervous, but WELL guarded.
Okay, I promised my Mother and Vick I'd avoid the subway so keep this to yourself. I took the 4 train from Bowling Green, past Wall Street to City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge, switched to a 6 and headed up towards 51st based on the assurance that everything was "normal". Henrik, this look like a "normal" rush hour crowd at Wall Street?
Terroists I can handle; nasty people offend me. I, and it's no secret, hold B. C. Forbes "Nice People Always are" as my favorite quote, followed closely by Mark Twain's "I hate quotes". I sit at my favorite table in Barnes and Noble, the time is 5:35pm. At 5:40pm a lady walks up and asks "are you the special event?" to which I replied "I was 10 years ago". She goes on to explain that I should prepare well ahead to have my stuff packed and be gone because the weekly knitting club will arrive "en masse" at 6:00pm sharp. I assure her I'll be but a fond memory to her by then and continue about my work. She assumes a position about 2' in front of me and stares. The lone other occupant of the 40 fold chair reading area is a lady quietly reading. The "Miltant Knitter" askes "excuse me Miss, are you with the knitting group?" To which the young gal replies "no I am not". The Militant: "well, it's okay, you can stay for a bit". Lady: "I am aware of that". Finally, it's time for me to go, it's 5:58pm and I am sitting at a talbe, the Militant Knitter before me, needles flying in a chain stich, but not another sole in the place. I snap a couple pictures, capturing the flavor of the moment and as a reminder that it takes way more muscles to frown than smile. There was a book on the table when I arrived. As I leave she makes her move to the table, asking "if that's your book, please take it". I exclaim "It's not, you are welcome to it" and she tells me "I don't want it" As I look at the spine of the book, I see it's Anna Quindlan's "a short guide to a happy life" and then I KNEW she didn't want it. It was 6:00pm and still she sat alone, a "group" of one. The price, I sugget, of being a surley person. It's Valentines Day. Whereever you are, give someone a hug and tell them you love them. More lives than you can imagine will benefit. Court (Off to Grand Central Station to visit the dogs today) |

Court, As much as my JOB SUCKS right now, you made me very glad I am me and not the militant knitter. Did you know that terrorists pose as militant knitters and they keep biological weapons inside their knitting needles... I think the FBI was onto her and that is why the room was cleared before she got there, except nobody filled you in on the precaution. Happy VD !!! Char |

Court: Your taste in coffee shop babes is slipping... Reciting Dylan lyrics, trying to pick up old ladies, wandering the NYC subways alone, you are NOT enjoying your "idle time" sufficiently! Either get a job or come visit Houston--it's warm and I have bikes that need riding. I'm just one man, there's only so much I can do by myself! r-t |

Court . . . .. er, said quietly, is a patch fine in order in response to your off-limits subway visitation? I mean, I'd never tell, understand, but I think I got a 3 square inch area left on my everyday riding jacket that is crying for a patch, ya know? wink wink. nudge nudge. |

>>>Court: Your taste in coffee shop babes is slipping... Ya think? The Houston thing sounds very tempting and I'd like to visit my Aunt and Uncle. It's going to take Craig a long time to get over the lose of the Shuttle Crew. By the way, you would get an abololute kick out of him.
