Man...how do you do it? I'm starting to organize some stuff for an undertaking and at the same time under "clean it up" orders from the SCU. I start to throw out a box, open it and find a case of Buell stuff from the "old days".
I figure, well. . . I'll toss the next one. Egads...pictures that some of the boys (and Debbie) from Buell R&D would remember, pictures from Portland (you all recall that I belonged to a riding club there and went there to spead the word when Buell was "new".....pictures from Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, California, South Carolina...the day Erik showed up unexpectedly and he and my Dad hanging out. . 4 BIG cases of pictures....what the heck do you do with them?

As for the pics. Take them out and have 'em digitized. Short of that some real good albums. I will call my mother and get the source of the ones she is using. |

Court, Cool stuff! Pack 'em back up so you can "discover" them again in about ten years. DC |

I bet Dave Gess wouldn't mind having a few for his web site. Cool stuff. There might be a few people looking for some of the old literature too. Old pictures Rock. At least the one from the good times...and they aren't of yourself in a compromising position.... |

Dave Gess, I'm betting, is in a similar situation. . . swamped with stuff. I was just looking at those old pictures and trying to count the number of states I was in. The one with the NEW 1967 Volkswagen bug in the garage was early as it had my old test B-031 S-2 in it. The ones on the purple and RR-1200 are at Uke's the day I ground looped the RR-1200 showing off on a pair of OLD Dunlops....yeah, blame the tires. Hopkinsville, KY was just riding through on the way to the Honda-Hoot. The group picture is a club I belonged to in the Portland area. Most were Intel engineers, a few of whom I "converted" from Triumph. Some of you will recognize Jeremy Ricker and, note in the picture, was a recent convert Jerry Haughton, soon to start PacBog and become Ferris Bueller. Erik had hair down to his shoulders and that was the day of the famous "ceiling fan" story. It was a long story, but basically I was sneaking out early to go get Erik, flung a sweatshirt over me head in the dark, ceiling fan caught it and it set off a whole series of events that ended with 4 Topeka police cars. Long, and kinda funny story. Picture in front of the dining room is with John Wyckoff, old HD moto-guru consultant. That's the day he told me "wait here, I'll ride ahead about a mile, lay in the ditch and snap a pic of you as you come around the curve". Well when I came around the curve at about 95mph, John was spread eagled in cuffs against a patrol car. Seems he was headed there a bit quick. His volunteer PD idea fixed things and off we went. Picture, bottom center is Denny Patterson and Bruce Zimmerman in the R&D area of the old Buell building prepping a bike for my LAP OF AMERICA trip in which I covered 37 states in 31 days and gave several hundred demo rides. Gads.....I hate to open another case!

Too funny! I was just rummaging through some stuff, looking for a Buell key fob, for my XB. The one that had the logo in 3D, not printed. I think it was a demo ride gift. I KNOW I have one somewhere, think I can find it? I did find the Buell spark plug gapper you gave me, Court. |

Those "3D" key fobs were actually in the Buell 1995 parts and accessories catalog, along with the "Square Helmet", they were so cool. Mine looks like the Buell caps Dave Gess and I wear. . . pretty well worn out. The BUELL spark plug gap tools were from the 1998 Race of Champions. Someone from the Mothership got a burr under their saddle and told me to "get rid of this Buell stuff" after the race. Ergo, I took them and give them to Buell riders. I think I still have a Buell saddlebag filled with them someplace that weighs about 90#.

Court -- could be an idea to auction off some of the swag for your "let's gather some filthy lucre to Lure McWilliams back across th ebig water" effort? just a though -- I think I'll go lay down and wait for the feeling to pass ;-} |

Ahhhh....the McWilliams effort is well underway. May require me to go to London (not entirely a "bad thing") but I'd say it's looking good. In the meantime (I guess as opposed to the "nicetime") get over to www.jeremymcwilliams.com and sound your support. Court |

Court, When do you need "cash in hand" on our McWilliams effort. April is getting a little tight for me, but May and June should be good. |

Hmmm, all those pictures look like a great start to a big thick "Coffee Table" picture book dealing with Buell history. But from the looks of it, if this is one box, there may be more VOLUMES to this saga. |

I for one would be interested in a Book about Erik and BMC. I'd prefer a more informal look from the inside, with the "remind me to tell you" stories, as opposed to a dry biography with dates and figures, but missing the real story. I have a book on John Britten that comes close to that kind of perspective. My son's Tony Hawk biography is told in a similar style too. Court, you've hinted at something being in the works. Any more teasers? |

Speaking of housecleaning...I visited TNT H-D/Buell in Quincy IL over the weekend. They had several different Buells on the floor, s, r, sx, x, and p3, but (big surprise) no Buell merchandise anywhere. (they'd be happy to order it if I had the part number) And finally the point of the post...In the rack of new model literature (right inside the door)they had the "new for 2003" Buell model guide (draw a line in the road) as the sum total of Buell info. No wonder the Buell stuff "just doesn't sell around here" . Of course I picked up a couple of copies of the model guide since I do happen to own a 2003 xb9R+ That doesn't help potential customers a bit though. |

Boy, my club isn't swamped with Buell Stuff. If'n you need a reasonable monetary donation, I would LOVE to make it for you, I could call it, "Remind me sometime to make you a donation." |

Diablo, If you happen to be there again soon, please pick me up one of those 2003 brochures for the xb9R also. I'll be at homecoming, so i can get it from you there if possible. Court, You can bring all the Buell memorabilia you want to homecoming. I'm sure there's plenty of us "newbies" around to lighten your load. You could even get up with someone and have a "garage sale" and make enough money for a round of beers! Clif |

Hey Court, If you have any Buell banners or posters taking up space I might know a place they could call home |

Court, if you come across an old brochure, with the official Westwind font on it, let me know, OK? I'm certain I've seen it, but I don't have it anywhere. Of course, the past gets foggier every day, there may be no such thing. Thanks |

Does it say Westwind? I'll take the decal, if so. I'll have it painted on the tail of my RS. I'd take the other decals too, if you have them. Thanks. |

Court, I was in Topeka HD/Buell a few weeks ago. Is that a picture of you on the wall (at the bottom of the stairs) on your S2? Its in the downstairs "museum" area and right next to an autographed photo of Jay Leno. Drake |
