While I agree with most of what has been said I tend to disagree with one point. IMHO the Penske is not the best shock for a street bike as it tends to need rebuilding on about a yearly basis. the new Works Performance shock for Buells runs about $200 cheaper and doesn;t need as frequent of rebuilds. |

The reason I expect the mfg. to replace the shock is because it was defective from day one.(according to their own records). The age of the bike should'nt matter at least it didn't matter the last time they replaced it in May 01 I should be able to ride more than 2500 miles per shock!! or maybe I am expecting too much from them? Daytona HD say's I'm risking my life riding it as is so I asked them why are they putting defective parts on my motorcycle?? got real quiet... I asked for advice and I will accept it . Thank you |

The settings on the shock are in the middle of soft & hard, both front and rear settings are the same. They were set by the dealer I never felt the need to change them? I mean it rode nice the way it was. |

Which day 1? Whose records? You mean you can prove the dealer installed a defective shock? The setting that matters is preload. If it's set too soft you're bottoming out the shock and tearing the seals out. Lots of people on here have S2s, you're the first I've heard complain about the rear shock leaking. Josh 91 RS1200 98 S1WL 99 S3T 00 Blast (ok, yeah I don't have an S2, but I do have the bikes that proceeded and followed) |

Josh,I have had 2 of the recall shocks leak on my S-2's,I really should go out and check the latest one and see how it is.I had first replaced no problem. When the shock on my latest S-2 started I just got a Penske.Never had a problem with the WP shock, glad I kept it. |

S2s got the Showa shocks installed? (that's what I get for not owning one). I'd get the seals replaced (Race Tech can do it for $100 I think) or better yet pop for the upgraded '01-style shock (check ebay) or one of the aftermarket ones. |

Yes I can prove the dealer installed a defective shock, not once not twice u guessed it this is the 3rd to blow seals on the same S2!! on a bike w/ 10k on it!! The dealer keeps records of all maint done whether recall or not and yes I keep the same copies as well. I live in Fla mostly highway miles no wheelies no burnouts. to my knowledge I've never bottomed out the shock. I'm not really against buying a shock but is the shock the problem?? what guarantee do I have if the one I buy blows out?? hyperpro has one for $1812.00 plus shipping, penske sells for $900.00 plus & dealer sells them for $650.00 plus installation. I wonder if I should buy a bakers dozen??? hmmm one must plan ahead u know |

Beags, Another angle...Is the shock covered under warranty for 12 months/xxx miles after repair? Details normally on the reverse side of the repair order. DAve |

Beags, Write up your unfortunate shock experience in a professional manner and good detail and send a copy to Buell Customer Service. I'm betting they will help you. Post a copy here too. |
