Any suggestions as to which of Tommy's albums are the best for an overall notion of his "sound"? Thx, Rob |

Rek: Man....ya gotta give me a minute. I was sitting in a meeting (18 340 ton fans to be lifted off barges this week) and was getting your posts. Going forward, I'll tell ya a secret. Under the Radar Records has us set up a discount arrangement for Buell folks for 15% off any purchase in the UTR store. It's ready and simple. Any purchase in our online store will automatically have a 15% discount applied at checkout. On the first page of the checkout, there's a box under 'Shipping Options' labeled: Gift Certificate Code (if applicable) Enter: buellutr or BUELLUTR It must be all UPPERCASE or all lowercase. I also see that the (made popular by famed guitarist Erik Buell "GRATITUDE shirts are all gone with the exception of small. I've tendered a request for an immediate resupply. Court P.S. - I am listening to the GRATITUDE CD this morning, Erik's personal favorite, and it rocks. |

If Soul Shaker was an LP I'd say start on the flip side. Track 8 (Wake Up Call) is the best on the album. The DVD/Live CD from the Fillmore is probably the best way to get the TCB "sound". Highlight of the night was after Slick broke 2 strings on each of his 2 guitars he turned Blind Mississippi Morris loose while he restrung. Morris' 2 songs were worth the price of admission. |

Probably the best CD of the classic TC Band sound is "The Essential Tommy Castro". Although I agree that "Live at the Fillmore" is super, too, and it also has a DVD track where you can see Tommy play live. "Gratitude" is covers of songs from musicians that inspired him, and is great. "Soul Shaker" is the new one, and has a move to a more complex style. There are a couple of songs on it that should definitely be on mainstream radio stations. But nothing compares to seeing him live. TC is a really nice, kinda shy person off stage. When he steps on stage, he is totally in his element, and he pulls people into the moment like no one I've ever seen. |

Tommy's website doesn't list Essential but Amazon.com does. Hmm, he did an album with Lloyd Jones and Jimmy Hall backed by Double Trouble? Guess I need to make space on the CD rack. |

From Tommy's UTR's site hit CDs on the left. (hmm so that's where I could have gotten 15% off on the 4CDs and DVD I bought) (Message edited by josh_ on March 28, 2005) |

>>>>(hmm so that's where I could have gotten 15% off on the 4CDs and DVD I bought) Think of yourself as a MAJOR supporter of the arts! I'll investigate and action for "compensatory supplemental" reimburesement. Let me know which CD you'd like. |

I bought from Amazon and Tommy's sites not management's (incidentally they need to work on their webstuff but I sent Miki an email on that) Now I need to pick one and get an extra copy for my father-in-law. He helps out some friends who run a music/radio show in Quito. He'll love this. |

But nothing compares to seeing him live. TC is a really nice, kinda shy person off stage. When he steps on stage, he is totally in his element, and he pulls people into the moment like no one I've ever seen. Interesting. I recently witnessed a similar scenario. At Daytona for the big race I had the good fortune to listen in on Erik Buell talking about his racing days. I guess those two guys have a passion and like to share it. The rest of us are fortunate. I'll be anxiously awaiting a TC tour stop near East Texas while I enjoy his recorded music. Does he have any live recordings available? Court? Fess up techno geek man. Did you not record the entire concert? |
