The title alone had ought to draw folks to theis thread. We need a place to exchange information and rally the resources and support of TEH ELVES as our own Peter Moltman prepares to take on the PARIS-DAKAR RALLY. First things first....I need a volunteer to build a simple website that can be used to allow folks to keep informed about Peter's effort, progress and ongoing activites. Any takers? Chance to get in on the ground fllor of what will no doubt be an exciting effort. Court |

I've been discussing web site with Peter, and I think the final result with be a Blog site. Some of those have decent design and layout tools and it has the huge advantage of being accessible for updates and uploads from any computer with an internet connection; no need to carry around a full copy of your site, no links to keep track of etc. etc. Some of them even allows updates to the Blog via a cell phone with text messaging. We'll see what he decides. In the meantime, some of the artistically gifted folks here could start drafting up a Dakar/Sahara/Desert/Motorcycle related title bar. Can't remember any exact numbers, but I think 800 pixels across would be a good starting point. Henrik |

Just what I was thinking Henrik. I know Blogger lets you customize your design pretty much any way you like. Dave |

Yeah, Blogger is one of the links I sent to Peter. I signed up for a Blogger account, but haven't looked into it enough to know what can be done as far as changing the design/layout. But Blogging is certainly it when it comes to making page making accessible to anyone. If we were doing Team Elves site these days we'd be bloggin' Henrik |

I haven't messed with it in a while but my seldom used blog page is in blogger and sorta loks like the rest of my Buell site. I could build a tmplate to pick fonts, backgound etc. Pretty much everything is done with the style sheet from my main site so if I change fonts it chagens also. |

I will be happy to lend any technical skills I can offer. My skillset is the uber-techy web and network side, with an emphasis in information security. I leave the presentation layer to people with taste, like Mr. Gess. Friends don't let engineers do web layout. |

>>>>Hey,some of us are still keeping the Team Elves flame alive---- Absolutely! Wherever good friends gather... Dave: Drop Peter a note and see what he's done to date and where we get started. I'll start looking at his sponsorship structure. You and I will meet, at dinner, in 2 weeks. Court |

Sorry Fireman - no insult intended. I was only referring to the fact that the Team Elves site hasn't seen updates in years. And you are indeed flying the Team Elves banner proudly Henrik |

Someone ought to make a history page to consolidate the story to date, then add current efforts like FJM and Paul... |

Hey this is cool! Thank you! I'm still away with work (just had a quick glimpse of those pics you sent Henrik. Thanks. Some of them look a lot like Australia... ), but I should be home in a couple of days. My task was to start on the website when I got there as I need to get it up and running asap. I'm really a complete amateur though, so I figured there was going to be a severe learning curve coming up Now I'd better go and build a performance, so the kids can eat ... Just a thought... On the new Dakar site is a requirement for next year called IRITRACK, and in the description of it is a statement saying; "MEDIA + OPTION: In the near future, you will be offered a Media + option. This will include transmission of SMS messages, e-mail via Internet indicating your times at CPs, departure and arrival CHs, specials and bivouac. It will also be possible to extend the IriTrack application to your own personal site." Definitely something I'd like to look into. Hoping the near future doesn't mean 2007.... |

Well, it's officially up! www.pete2dakar.com Henrik spent a lot of time on the telephone with me yesterday, and we have decided to give this one a try. Beauty of it is we get a 31 day free trial I had hoped to get into town today, organise a separate bank account, Paypal etc but today is a public holiday over here. Grrrr.....I didn't realise that until this morning. Ah well, another spurt of performances and then we get our summer vacation, so I'm free then until middle of August. There is a benefit to working these long periods.... Paul, Mostly we need to raise money. The race this year, for an unsupported amateur like myself, costs 13,000 euros just to get a number from the organisers. Have a look at the site and tell me if you like the idea for raising the funds |

Pete; you weren't kidding when you said you were going to spend all night putting the site together. You're off to a great start! Very nice layout and great content so far. I'll look into what it'd take to make your own header bar with some Sahara/Dakar inspired pictures. Glitch, Dave, Chainsaw, any other artistically capable Badwebbers? I have scavenged a bunch of Sahara/Dakar photos from the web, so if you need inspiration and a starting point, ping me and I'll send you some 5 MB of stuff. Oh, and I'll want to buy the chance to win some Dakar memorabilia Pete, so get the Paypall thing up and running ASAP. Henrik |

I'm getting square eyes.... There's still a lot more I can pad it out with, but I need to go away for work again, so it'll have to wait until I get back. Feel free to run amok on it, Henrik |

Peter: I'm in. I'm proud to support your effort. I'll PayPal some 'Dead Presidents' into Euros after work tonight. I'm GMT +7 hours. What is a slang term for Euro's anyway? Henrick: What do ya'll need specifically? I'm competent in Photoshop, My real skill is in Illustrator. Is the 'official' team name "Pete2Dakar"? If you know what elements you would like to see in a logo, I'll get some ideas in the works. Having some patches made might be another way to raise money for the effort. Court would know. He has some experience in this sort of thing. chainsaw-xb9r(at)usa.net |

Patrick; I'd been thinking of some collage/logo/ that somehow incorporated a long legged motorcycle, some "Sahara like" image and racing. I was really just thinking of a banner for the site, but Pete likes the one that's up there now - so maybe a logo or something that could turn into patches/stickers etc. Any ideas would be cool. Thanks. Henrik |

Chainsaw, Thank you! Unfortunately, 13 was one of the first to be requested..... Ross, I did indeed. I like it. Pity we don't have avatars anymore or I'd put it on I've been thinking of stickers. The husband of a lady I work with makes them, along with T-shirts etc. The only thing I could come up with though was something that would link people to the website. Not very creative.... Henrik, It's not that I don't like the idea of a logo, it's just that heaps of people have said "Wow. That picture looks great! It's a slice I took from one of your's. 998 from memory. Ducati number sooooo it sticks in my head Pete2 Dakar (Message edited by peter on May 27, 2005) |

Court, Thanks, I appreciate it. You'll have to click here, then click on "Who?" on the left, to find another number. The good folk at Hotel Boulis on the Greek island of Sifnos took #22 some time ago |
