Blake, I like the way the board is laid out. I enter via the "New/Search" page and then choose the threads I want to read. I'd hate to see any loss of content that might ensue from changing formats, unless it happened to be the "war" and "politics" threads. In my opinion, they are too divisive and tend to drag the quality of the board down. But in spite of those unfortunate threads, this is the only bike board I visit with any regularity, and I appreciate the effort that you and the other moderators put forth to maintain order and decorum. rt |

Blake, That's usually what I do, but if you have the width and height attributes in the <img> tag, then the jumping will be more accurate. Trust me , I'm a trained professional. If you let me at the source code, I'll see what I can do. Oh, and you might want to link the amount of the check in the first paragraph with the visitors counter in the left frame. Dave |

Blake, I'm quite satisfied with the way the BBS is laid out as is. I find it fairly easy to navigate and browse. Just MHO |

I much prefer this BBS format. Using the search makes it very easy to filter what I want to read and what I don't. On Mac, command-click on a link opens the link in a new tab, so I just go down the search result list and pick what I want to open. Then everything is nicely lined up for me to just read. I stopped coming to ATC because of their format. Sacborg is a bit better, but still takes too many clicks to get to what I want. And no way to pre-read and filter. Henrik |

Those of you that prefer this BBS format don't have anything to worry about. Blake's sticking to it 'cause it ain't broke. Sacborg takes too many clicks? Click on a forum, then click on a topic, then click on a thread. In the search section of Sacborg, you can click on "Today's Active Topics" and "pre-read" those. And Sacborg shows you visually if there have been any new posts since you last visited. The best filter of all on that forum is that it lists the author of the topic right there on the topic list page. Sacborg in my opinion has a decent layout, but take a look at the R-1 forum: www.r1-forum.com/forums/index.php?s=55215cff1770287c8876ce0d649eaf36&action=faq It has more features, filters, photo and video gallery, chat, a user list, a list of active users, a good search engine, etc. I don't run this site, but if I did (and had no financial constraints), I would have upgraded to something like the R-1 forum long ago, but without the ads on the left side of the pages. Mike. p.s. The BadWeb is second to none where it really counts, however, and that is it's content (not including the non-motorcycle trash). |

"too many clicks" That is of course relative to how I browse here - just lazyness/convenience really not including the non-motorcycle trash Some of the non-motorcycle "content" is fine with me. The more controversial threads, that tend to get people riled up and generally pissed at each other, I could do without as well. Granted, I don't read those threads, but they sometimes to overflow and pollute other threads as well. Henrik |

The stuff I am complaining about is mostly a matter of personal preference, really. I'm not trying to bash BadWeb although it may come across that way! Mike. |

Mike: >>>>although it may come across that way! It does not. You have expressed yourself with decorum and succintly stated your opinion. This is as it should be. Similarly, Blake not adopting your ideas should never be interpreted as prima facie evidence of him "not liking" you. Understand the basics of civil debate and discourse and you'll last long and prosper here. Oh yeah...and stay clear of the war threads. Ya done well..... Court - a big fan of SIMPLE |

Mike, I get the impression that you are not using the "Search" - "Registered Users:" - "Messages since I last searched for new messages: " option? It is by far the easiest, simplest way to browse any web forum I've ever seen and it gives you a short preview of each new post, all on one page. I don't believe that SacBORG provides any such intelligent new message search utility, only a "» Today's Active Topics «" utility which will list all the days new/active topics, whether you've already seen them or not. I cannot say it often enough or emphatically enough: If you are not using BadWeB's "Search" utility with the "Registered Users:" - "Messages since I last searched for new messages: " option, you are missing out and/or doing more clicking/work than required to browse the site. Mike, I took a look at that R1 forum. It offers nothing that is not currently available via Discus. Instituting those options would increase site bandwidth usage by approximately 50%, adding another $200/mo to out expenses. It would also slow things down and probably require us to upgrade our server configuration. They had 32 main topics. Good grief, talk about difficult to decipher. We could create/implement some "categories" to help better organize the main topic page similarly to what that R1 forum does. Doing so will cause the main topics page to become lengthened. I had hoped to maintain it as close to a single screen in length as possible. Will soon be getting rid of the frames too. If you are interested in what all the capabilities of Discus, pay a visit to www.discusware.com, look around, and let me know what you think. |

Since I'm on here pretty much daily I just click on last day. Works great for me and I don't miss anything. |

Yeah, Charlie, I try to do that as well. I sometimes miss a day or two but if you click on the "last three days" function and expand the topics, you get pretty much the same thing, just takes a bit longer. |

Hey...did you guys ever think of having maybe a live chat room format?? That would be a great idea if we could talk live with each other or have some sort of buddy list or IM format for those who are logged on at the moment!....Just a thought.....KC |

There are already plenty of IM apps available. We are hesitant to invest the bandwidth on a chat page. |

Can admins please restrict the Quick Board to motorcycle related posts only. I thought the General Discussion Board was the place for off-topic stuff. Mike. (Message edited by xb9er on October 01, 2004) |

Can the sponsor 'banners' above the forum (showed twice, below the top banner that's always visible and clickable) in the sponsor's area hyperlinked to their website? Would be very convenient ... |

probably too much work, however, a glossary of terms section would be most excellent for some of that tech jargon used occasionally in the KV and elsewhere. example: what exactly is detonation in the engine, i have a pretty good idea but could use some clarification |

probably too much work Won't take me more than 15 minutes to make that change. There is no other way to find the sites from the dealer's section. I google them to find it which is not always succesful. |

i meant the glossary too much work, your suggestion sounds great i've kinda asked for that before and it was greatly improved, i had also asked to put the sponsors in the links section or maybe in the side bar like the team elves link. |

Sorry to jump in and completely change the subject - BUT: I was just wondering what the odds are that the BadWeb will move to a vb3 powered forum?? See http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/index.php?to see how much better it would be! We could have avatars and image hosting and better organization and please oh GODS OF the BADWEB -- do something about our out-dated software!! VB3 also has a similar "search" utility and is actually very similar in basic format to the current board -- just with a lot more features. (Message edited by naustin on October 11, 2004) |
