How 'bout putting the archives at the end of the page instead of at the top. Maybe a link to jump there so they aren't completely missed -- just out of the way of what's really going on today. | ||

Greg, I'm embarrassed to have accrued so many posts in 6 years. Can you say "get a life"? I'm poster #0. Add one more to the tally.  The list doesn't include custodians. Didn't realize that when I sorted it through the user list utility. And Nevco is now Outrider, so his tally might be higher, as would anyone's who has reregistered under a new username (Ferris, Road_Thing, etc...). If one is sly, one can find the total number of existing posts by anyone, even those with multiple usernames. Easy, That is a great suggestion, unfortunately there is no easy way to accomplish it. We do try to keep the list of "Archive" designations in the subtopic lists to a minimum. The clunky archiving is the one thing I don't like about Discus. The UBB method of page archiving by simple numerical cataloguing is ideal. The next major upgrade (to version 5) of Discus will likely incorporate something similar. My current challenge is to get certain topics back on topic. Too many threads in the XBoard are not directly related to XB motorcycles and belong on the Quick Board, and some are technical and belong in the Knowledge Vault. FYI, registered users breached the 5,000 mark last week. And back on the top-ten posters topic... remember, it's not just quantity but quality that really counts. | ||

yeah, but you are just counting straight posts. and we all know how boring a bunch of posts in a straight line are, any gsxr can go fast.lets see who can post most tangentially. also of interest would be the maximum rate of change in the number of posts, ie postal acceleration. | ||

For one thing I would like to be able to look at a list of threads and along with (or instead of) "Last Poster" see Who Started the thread and the date it started. For example the page that shows up when I click XBoard from the Main Topics. I would like to not have to log in again to access my Profile if I'm already logged in. I would like to be able to click a button to see a table listing user names and number of posts and maybe other info like if they are part of the rider assistance network or bike(s) they own. I would like to be able to rate threads and maybe admins could look at low rated threads and kill them. The Hogs posts on topics of ground clearance immediately come to mind. I would like to replace the current Archiving system with a way of flagging posts as Read or Unread. That way when I visit the BadWeb, I can choose to see only threads that are new to me and/or threads that have posts I haven't read yet. Something that would not require a search or be limited to Last day/3 days/week. I would like to see the Knowledge Vault have sub-topics that mirror the Main topics, that is, Old School, XB, and Thumpers. And the current sub-sub-topics could be repeated within them. I would like to see a section where users can upload pics separately so that users can go back to view thumbnails of all the pics they have uploaded. This would be convenient for someone with a collection of pics from a certain event, for example. Then, instead of uploading in posts, they could just refer the viewer to the images section. It would be nice if the opening BadWeb logo, which is excellent, would just transition to the Main Topics page without having to click it. I know I can bookmark the main topics page but I like to see the logo pop up! That's all I can come up with at the moment. Mike. | ||

Careful Mike, you'll find yourself running a discussion board.  Try using the "Registered Users" option on the search screen and selecting the "Messages since I last searched for new messages: " option. It is the only way to fly. It only displays threads and messages that are new since the last time you searched the board in that same manner. User info must be kept secure from easy harvesting, thus though we have the capability, we don't allow public access to the user list. Sucks to have to protect the site from scumbags, but it is a prudent thing to do. Thread rating is not available, post rating I think is but I don't see the value in it. People need to be more positive as it is. As to the KV, I'd rather we all use the same one and simply title our threads with the specific model and year of Buell involved. Some of the threads in the KV are universal or apply to more than one model or era of Buell. If we keep it all in one place, the best and smartest people will only need look in the one topic and are thus more likely to provide good answers to all tech type questions/issues. I'd rather have the pics integrated into the thread. Keep it simple. Having to post pics to one page and pull up another to post text or to read it seems too complicated and I fail to see the value in it. I'd like to see more users provide more captions to pics they post. Oh, the login requirement for access to your profile is a security measure. Damn hackers. Probably not an issue for most users as we don't often edit our profiles multiple times per session. | ||
