Dave, Yes, I tried the command prompt and it worked. I typed the following... tracert badweatherbikers.com If you want to save the results to a file add a " > filename.txt" to the end of the command. The results will end up in "filename.txt" where filename is any file name you wish. Josh, My results are... Hmm, anyone else see qwest like Jim? Skyweb might be using 2 different backbones/providers for redundancy. Josh (Just back from London so pardon my slow reply) |

The last hops before BadWeb 205.171.8.206 Unknown ewr-core-02.inet.qwest.net 205.171.17.58 Unknown ewr-edge-08.inet.qwest.net 208.46.159.110 Unknown 66.6.128.58 Unknown dns1.badweb.com The 208.46.159.110 must be Skyweb's interface to Qwest. Jim's ISP uses Cox (or, more likely is Cox) for it's provider which hits Level3 before Qwest on it's way to BadWeb. For more fun with Internet information try Same Spade just enter the IP address or name and hit Do Stuff. SamSpade's tracert also shows Qwest so they (SkyWeb) are probably be load balancing with multiple T1s. |

Hey Blake, On April 13th, 2002 I said: "I find the “Personal Profiles” to be unhelpful because it’s time line based and voluntary, and I would like to see it replaced with a constantly up dated list of BBS members. When a new user signs up on the BadWeB, his or her name would be automatically be added to list of members in the “Personal Profiles” section. Ideally this list would be in the form of a spreadsheet, or table, that the viewer could sort either by screen name or user name. Each name would, of course, be hot linked to that users profile. Each member of the BadWeB would still be free to reveal as much or as little personal information in their profile as they wish." And you said: “I'm with you. The next release of the BBS software will provide exactly that. I expect the upgrade to happen by September this year, hopefully sooner.” September was six months ago. What’s up with the new software? If it's a matter of money we could all make donations. Whatever it takes to make it happen. |

Ray, I've been thinking about allowing free access by other registered users to the user list. My problem is that any malevolent types would be able to mine email addresses for spamming purposes. I don't see much of a reason to provide a consolidated list like that. If you wish to find a particular user's profile, you can do a search using the "Look in: Names of authors. As long as they have participated on the board, you'll be able to find their posts and click on their username to bring up their profile. How's that sound? As to the new version of the board... Yes it is overdue. My fault. The new version offers a more efficient programming package and some improvements/enhancements to the user interface and search functions. Thanks, I needed a kick in the ass. |

Good point about the e-mail list. I use the "...@hotmail.com" address in EVERY public forum so it really doesn't matter to me if I get one more ad for penis enlargement. I'm more circumspect with my "real" e-dress. I really like the never ending on going conversation on the GDB, Quick Board and Storm Fronts sections, but the KV needs to be dealt with in a different manor I think. It's way to much trouble to read through fifteen zillion posts to find the right kind of oil to use. I’m looking forward to the new software. Thanks for running such a great BBS. |

Blake, A list of Badweb sponsors that actually goes to their web site. Or maybe I'm just missing something. Pilk |

The banner ads? I suppose I should put a coherent list up somewhere. |

The banner ads do work, but you have to go to several pages to find the banner you need. Just think a list would be easier. Pilk |

Blake, Is it possible to move the "Thumper" forum on the Main topics page to be positioned below the "general" forum? It's kind of weird having to scroll down instead of having at the top as usual. Brad |

Would it be possible to archive the older discussions in the Quickboard? It's gotten up to nearly 400K just to download the index page, which is no fun on a modem. It must be hell on your bandwidth usage fees, too, I would think. -Geof |

Please check the search engine, searching for ["two brothers"] returns ALL posts containing brothers, ie. White Brothers. Also, [+two +brothers] returns: Your search for +two +Brothers matched 123 pages. The following words were ignored: two Gee, thanks, 'ya dumb piece of code, I didn't really WANT to find "two", I just typed it for fun Just Buell It Oz |

Oz, The search engine has a list of what it calls "stop" words which are words that it will not index. Apparently "two" is one of those words. Try "+brothers +exhaust +slip +muffler" while searching only the Knowledge Vault topic, then for each of the two pages listing the search results, use the "Find" function of your browser (cntrl-f in MSIE) to do a page search for "two". You'll find four or five hits that way. The browser "Find" function used in concert with the search engine is pretty powerful. |

Blake... the search function appears broken. Not sure if it is a server side problem, I am browsing from a newer Mozilla build on Linux. I will try it on IE on XP when I walk back upstairs... but I wanted to give you a heads up. |

It is weird (tested it from XP).... If I do a search on cyclone, which should get a gazillion hits, it gets two pages from the quick board, both recent. If I do a search of the knowledge vault for "sensor", nothing comes back. Something is broken... |

Yes. Problem is known. Must re-index search database. Re-indexing did not work last night, probably stopped at only a portion of the entire BBS thus the limited results. Will try again tonight late after all are sleeping except Peter and Hans. |
