My opinion: Custodians should represent the membership, instead of being 'Choir Boys' |

Thanks for posting again. I see the custodianship as sort of a judgeship or traffic cop assignment, supposed to be neutral to issues, focused on keeping things under control and flowing nicely, officiating in disputes, throwing buckets of cold water on fighting dogs, relocating errant postings to better sections and leaving pointers to where they went, and so forth. I don't see too many choir boys in the custodians. I was offered a custodianship a few times, I turned it down since I don't have the time I feel I would have to put into it to do with it what I would want done with it. Custodians as traffic cops, keeping the traffic flowing nicely, and never becoming speed limit cops simply there to generate revenue via fines. Not sure if I'm in the ballpark with this response, but I'm definitely over the word limit. |

Mike, don't worry about limits. Perhaps the free for all is the best format. I don't consider myself 'chairman' any longer. |

I don't really disagree with the sentiment, but I'm not sure how to implement this one, Snail. My point of view is that Blake, as owner of the site, makes the final call on most issues. What if "the membership" says they want porn images on the site? I'm pretty sure Blake would not be in favor--then what do the custodians do? rt BTW, I'm hardly a "choir boy"--Blake and I have had some disagreements about what belongs here and what doesn't. But I tend to respect his wishes, since it's his site.) |

"Choir Boy," that's a first-heard! I think the old man, and the U.S. Army, left that one out of their vocabulary list. G2 |

Yes, I'm a choir boy. And I shall ever and always sing the tune called by the choir master, Blake. Ahem! mee-mah-mo! mee-mah-mo! Oh, Choir Master Blake! Oh, Choir Master Blake! Will you autograph my hymnal? |

Just to make it plain when I insinuated that RT wasn't a choir boy, I meant as in a "good boy", he's got some bad in him, in a good way !! |

I would support that with one clarification, existing custodians stay and also have the right of veto on any publicly nominated custodian. We could create a new topic with queued posting for nominations and voting. How's that sound? Fellow custodians, what you say? Custodial status endows one with access sufficient to obliterate the entire board. A backup would restore the place to the day before status, but if I don't trust someone, they ain't getting the keys to the board. The next major release of Discus may provide a new/additional level of custodial status that addresses my concerns to some degree. We do need more custodians though. Please welcome Greg (BigDaddy) as our newest brave soul. |

LOL - Blake and I have gone round and round, yet we've always kept it civil, that I got a Custodian position - I felt it was earned by my constant contributions and positive activity, not because I agree with Blake - when we do agree its usually on tech. matters - lol- the biggest reason I'm here, though I've found a lot of friends along the way and I've learned more here than even talking with all my mechanic friends - lol GT - JBOTDS! Yes and Erik O. too for sure! Geez, I'm going senile or something. If not for the thoughtful opposing views and counsel offered by custodians, I'd be lost. |

As long as the voted in custodians will continue to work with and within the existing guidelines of Badweb. It ain't as easy as it looks. Henrik |
