I've been getting the new message function to work today about 15% of the time. I wait until the little globe/MS-flag up in the corner of the browser stops spinning otherwise your white admin page pops up telling me to slow down and wait for the page to finish loading. |

Blake, It doesn't seem to matter if I wait or not. It didn't work this morning, it has worked all afternoon. I clicked through the screens as fast as possible. The banners had not loaded. I'll keep futzing and see if I can duplicate the problem. Brad |

Brad, MikeJ, Are you still seeing the same behavior with the new messages utility? I've noticed that I often have to enter my username and pw when posting or using the new messages utility where before they were always automatically filled in for me. Might that be a glitch in MSIE, or a result of the pages changing with the new banner scheme? Anyone else seeing this problem? |

BBS Upgrade Note: The BadWeB spell checker is now firing on all cylinders. A new English/American spelling dictionary along with a special expandable BadWeB spelling dictionary have been installed. To implement spell checking for your posts... 1. Edit your user profile 2. Go to the "Preferences" section. 3. Checkmark the option to "Spell check my posts" 4. Make certain that the option to "Skip the preview screen..." is left uncheckmarked. Please help improve the BadWeB spelling dictionary, take note of any correctly spelled words/names/jargon/slang/acronyms that the spell checker mistakenly pegs as misspellings, and post them to the "Spell This" Subtopic in the Suggestions for a Better BadWeB topic. BadWeB wants to avoid propagating self doubt every time we post a correctly spelled but unrecognized word. We'll periodically update the BadWeB spelling dictionary with the list of unrecognized correctly spelled words that you provide. Thanks! |

In an attempt to curb stuff that aggravates admin, we are starting a BadWeB Hall of Shame. This is the place where those individuals causing the admin grief and misery will be exposed to face the ridicule and derision of fellow BadWeBrs. It is especially for those who insist on using the BBS's email forwarding option despite suffering unreliable email servers, overflowing emailboxes, or having obsolete/erroneous email addresses entered into their BadWeB profile. Other potential members of the BadWeB shameful may include those who violate the sanctity of "Anonymous" posting, anyone who posts a jpg or gif that exceeds 640 pixels in width, those who choose to butcher the English language, or any Buell rider who spells "Erik" with a "c". Referring to a Buell motorcycle as a "Harley" may also qualify you for this club of hapless bunglers. As just reward, members of the Hall of Shame, will be relegated to public humiliation on this page until they have adequately demonstrated their forthright humility and repentance through appropriate acts of contrition. The first charter member is... |

I get the disappearing password and username too. Sometimes it's one, sometimes the other, sometimes both. I'm still using IE 5.0, nothing has changed on my computer in at least 8 months. |

On the topic of organizing the KV, here's one of my biggest beefs with any discussion board... Someone alluded to different people feeling differently about which KV section a post belongs to. What about when a given post may fit into more than one section? For that reason, I've always wanted to set up something with Subject Flags. The Subject Flags are defined by the admin and are applied to specific posts by some means not entirely known to me. Maybe not a great example, but imagine a recall involving a carb issue. Recalls? Carburetion? If we had subject flags, one could search for posts with either the Recall flag or the Carburetion flag and get a meaningful result. I don't know if it's practical (ANYTHING is possible) to try to fit this type of code and structure to an existing product like Discussware's but I've always thought it a grand idea. -Saro |

Saro, That's one reason for the now changing KV format. We are going to a subject driven architecture for the KV similar to the Quick Board. This will allow a search of "Topic Titles". If everyone is thoughtful in creating their subject titles for "New Conversations" this should solve the problem. We are trying to find a way to allow searches by individual subtopics too, instead of just by main topics. I had thought the new version of Discus would allow that, but unfortunately that has not come to pass. There may be some tricks we can use to get around that. Again, anyone who wants to help please let me know. |

I'd love to help but the next few weeks are seriously bad unless the code fairy visits my workstation when I'm sleeping. Incidentally, I have an idea for when I'm done with this for some stuff for the BBS. Well, not really the message board but just a side page of some sort. -Saro |

Blake, I'm not a computer geru, but I wonder if subject tags wouldn't work well especially for us who aren't always with our heads in the correct place when posting. What I have in mind is something like the emoticon tags you had on here previously (please bring them back ) but would have to do with subject matter. This would serve two purposes. The first would be a reminder to give a subject to the message for organization. The second allows multiple subjects within the same post. I don't know the difficulty of this but seems to a good idea (in my medically fogged brain ) Ray |

Ray, Will see you there. Remember, ballast not deflector. Saro, Call me when you get through the work crunch. Unfortunately, too many guys seem to never get out of the "work" cunch. Life is WAY too short. I can't talk since I made the same rationalization for the last two years.) |

Hey Blake, Is there anyway I can change my username? If not, can I just unregister my exsisting username and start over again? Thanks, Mike L. '99 Cyclone |

Save all the text in your profile. Then let me know and I'll delete your account so you can reregister under a new username. |

Court, Yes. Come to Kilgore and under my supervision, you'll be whipped back into shape in no time. I'll also end up with a nicely cleared and manicured 2 acre lot, a new 100' long retaining wall, a new 1,200 sq ft workshop, and a new roof on the house in Dallas. |

Blake, How do I teach my computer to word wrap with any size window while I view the BadWeatherBikersBBS? mikep |

The widest picture (gif or jpeg) on each page governs the minimum width for text wrapping. That's why we ask that everyone limit their uploaded picture widths to 640 pixels or less. If possible set your screen to a finer resolution, then adjust text size in your browser to facilitate reading. To set screen resolution on a Windows PC, right click anywhere on your desktop, choose "properties" then click on the "settings" tab and increase the screen area. To resize text in an MSIE browser, find the pull down menu that contains "Text Size" as an option, in MSIE 6.0 it's under the "View" pull down menu. Seems like MS changes its location every time they release a new version. Anyway, when you find it, select whatever size you prefer. Hope that helps. |

Mikep- If you are using IE 6.0, you can go to tools/internet options/advanced and under multimedia, check the "enable automatic image resizing" box. Sometimes it will allow any column width with proper wrapping, sometimes not so much. Buell <- MUCH more reliable than Microlimp Oz |

Instead of having us put our age in the profile, how about our date of birth, and have the server calculate our age? Just checked my profile, and realized i had gotten a few years older since starting on badweb. How many of us think about changing our profile annually? |

I suggest renaming the "Knowledge Vault" to the "Vault of Knowledge". I think it would be amusing. |
