Because I don't know how much money we will actually be dealing with I'll use $100 total per race as contingency money...

And I'll try to make it sound like a bunch of rules ; ).

Only the top three Buell finishers will be eligible for payout.

Only Buell finishers in the top eight spots overall will be eligible for payout.

In each race the first Buell finisher will take $45, The second will take $30, The third will take $25.

If any Buell from the first three Buell finishers are outside the top eight overall positions, the money for that position will be rolled into the "Podium Pool".

If a Buell takes a podium spot, that team takes whatever moneys are in the Podium Pool. If there is more than one Buell on the podium, the top podium finisher takes the Podium Pool.

If at the end of the season there is money in the Podium Pool, the Buell in the best position in the season standings will be awarded the moneys remaining.

_________________

As a modification, we could maybe give the Podium Pool to the team with the most points at two or three races over the course of the year...

Oh, and they have to mention BadWeb from the podium to claim the podium pool. If they forget, they lose out.

As far as other stuff to promote BadWeb... Blake?

To promote BadWeb, I'd give the top finisher one of those BIG Happy Gilmore checks and make them take a cheesy picture with it!

The AMA will most likely only have ten rounds this year, maybe less. Even though the AMA has VIR and Brainerd on the schedule, VIR has no contract with the AMA and the date the AMA is usually there has been taken by CCS. Brainerd is up for sale and no one knows whether they'll hold an AMA race there yet. However, there is discussion about running a second Laguna Seca round. Please keep this in mind when making decisions. This is info the AMA doesn't freely give out to potential supporters of the series

I know I'm partial, but this is my opinion on the payout scenario. With the AMA most likely running 10 rounds of racing this year, it looks like you might have $5000 to put up for the season (after the AMA takes their cut). That works out to a nice round figure of $500 per event. I would brake it down this way:

Top Finishing Buell - $250
Next Finishing Buell- $175
Third Finishing Buell-$75

I would payout no matter where the Buells finish, because for some guys just qualifying within the 112% of pole time is a victory at some of the faster tracks. I would take whatever money that's left over from the different events (and there will be some) and give it to the top finishing Buell in points at the end of the season.

Walt, we get four tickets to each event to sell too, so I figure we are currently closer to $7K. If we could get another couple hundred contributors at the $10, or $20 level we can start to really offer some dough.

Where is everyone? Spread the word to the XBoard! The Firebolts are racing AMA FX and need our support. : )

I'm calling the markers for all those who enjoy the board. Now is your chance to show your appreciation and help support Buell racers in AMA Formula Xtreme.

What is BadWeB worth to you? Please don't make me plead like a starving puppy.

Maybe if we pull a PBS and shut down posting for periodic fundraising appeals. LOL! Please don't make me resort to that!

Put me down for $50

Walt,
Your favored scenario is similar to one we had originally discussed. Sounds viable to me. I'm still in conversation with AMAPR on how they might be able to help with a roll-over of unclaimed awards. I like that idea, but it would need to be workable through AMAPR, or I guess we could just follow their normal program of consistent awards throughout the season and on top of those simply tack on the roll-over ourselves. I bet we could get RRW to give some coverage to such a program.

Thanks M1, Tatsu, and Kid! Time to update the tally sheet again. : )

For those who would like to honor their pledges now, we have two options...

1. www.PayPal.com to contingency(at)badweatherbikers(dot)com (We humbly request those using a credit card, would you please kindly tack on an additional 2.9% to cover the transaction fee?)

2. Send a check to
BadWeatherBikers.com
2906 Florence Street
Kilgore, TX 75662-3942

Please note on check "BadWeB AMA FX Racer Fund".

I'll add another column to the tally list to indicate when each of us has honored our pledge(s).

Sure would be great to get some funds from various enthusiastic Buell dealers, BadWeB sponsors and aftermarket retailers.

Thanks all, this is shaping up okay, just need some more pledges to make the significant impact like we all would like to see.

Stay tuned for ticket auctions/raffle information.

Just to further confuse things...

Like Blake said, we hate to "bet against" Buell making the podium, but the reality is it will be a significant challenge for a Buell to get there.

How many races are there in the season? How many per month? I am only committed now for a little, but I would also be willing to "bet" on the Buell making the podium. Make one contribution ($x) for "give away to the best showing Buell regardless" for the season, guarenteed disbursement. But have another fund for "each time you manage to make the podium somehow, I will manage to scare up another $25 or $50 somehow".

I'm only in for $25 total so far, because the only racing that is really important to me would be to someday do a track day. I am honestly not a racing fan otherwise. It's just not a priority to me, so I am not putting up a lot of money. That being said, I would be willing to "bet" $25 per "Buell on the podium" finish, just for fun.

It could cost me a bundle if a Buell dominates the season, and if they did I would happily pay up.

I sent my money over this morning. It says "unclaimed."

No matter how the money is divided up, it is and will be appreciated by any racer who has the chance to claim it. Everyone who is donating should be very proud, regardless of the amount!

It's official, the Formula Xtreme class will not be fun at Laguna Seca. The following is part of a press release I got today:

CLASSES SET FOR MOTOGP/AMA SUPERBIKE WEEKEND AT LAGUNA SECA

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (Jan. 27, 2005) – Racing fans should be certain to circle the July 8-10 weekend on their calendars. Those dates will mark one of the biggest events ever in the history of motorcycle racing in America when the Motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship (MotoGP) and the AMA Superbike Championship combine to make a spectacular weekend of racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.
The event, formally named the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, will bring Motorcycle Grand Prix back to the United States for the first time since 1994. In addition three classes of the AMA Superbike Championship will run in conjunction with MotoGP.

The event promises to be the biggest weekend of motorcycle racing in America and is expected to attract over 100,000 fans.

A round of the AMA Superbike Championship, the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship presented by Shoei and the Repsol Lubricants Superstock Series will run in support of MotoGP.

Bill,

There are ten maybe eleven FX races... AMA Pro-Racing Schedule. The Laguna Seca round is up in the air for FX as it is also the Moto GP race weekend. Rumor has it that there may be another Laguna Seca event in the works. Typical AMAPR management; lots of loose ends up in the air. :/

Thanks Walt, for the update.

That REALLY SUCKS!!! I understand the reasons, but with the BMW cup running, it really irritates me that FX cannot run too.

I just talked to a lady,(name withheld)at AMA Pro Racing as she said the Brainerd Round is about 99% gone off the schedule because of the sale of the track. She also mentioned that another release regarding the status of the VIR round should be out this week. Hopefully they will add a second Laguna round that will actually run the FX class.

Via Superbikeplanet.com

This just in from Laguna Seca Raceway's GM Gill Campbell. It seems there won't be a second stand-alone AMA race at Laguna Seca next year after all.

"We took a long, hard look at our Sept. 9-11 race weekend, but decided to stay with a four-race season. At this time, we prefer to focus our energies and resources to ensure the success of our four major events. We are interested in opening discussions with AMA for a stand-alone AMA race weekend beginning in 2006."

Yamaha is the main sponsor of the Laguna Seca MotoGP race. They put up major $$$ to upgrade the track to FIM standards just so the race could happen. So it's no suprise that Supersport and Superstock are the two classes to be included and are also the two classes that Yamaha races in. End of story.

BMW is putting up major $$$ to race there that weekend.

The schedule is pretty tight, adding another class would really make it worse.

FX does not yet have the mu$cle to get themselves into the schedule.

Gee, maybe Honda does not really pull the strings at AMAPR.....

One possible compromise, since the AMA will let Supersport bikes race in the Daytona 200 this year, maybe they will let the FX bikes race the in the Supersport class at Laguna.

If enough people emailed AMAPR with that suggestion, they might actually consider it and do it.
