The only thing Melandri brings to the WSB table is his GF/fiance. Although I noticed last year at laguna seca, she was with another team (I want to say the privateer BMW team but I could be wrong) even though Marco was on the Aprilia. Guess Aprilia couldn't afford both!

I wouldn't have considered myself a fan of Chaz Davies before the Laguna Seca weekend. Count me as a big fan now.

We were headed back to our campsite at the end of the festivities on Friday and by chance we walked thru Ducati Island to see what we could see. By sheer luck, we were able to go on a track walk with Chaz Davies. It wasn't certain he was going to make the track walk, but he didn't disappoint his fans.

He answered everyone's question as we made our way around the 2.2 mile course... stopping at every turn and explaining exactly what he is doing and what the bike is doing.

BTW, when asked about Laguna versus the other tracks around the world, you can tell he LOVED Laguna Seca....almost to the point of reverence.

"This is a proper track, cut it out of the side of a hill and let's go racing." Or something close to that.

Cool, well-spoken and obviously a very talented rider. Ducati did well.

More rumors of Nicky Hayden switching to WSBK next season. If so, I'd REALLY like to see him on something competitive and not that slug Honda has been campaigning unchanged for so many years.

Be great to see him on a Kawasaki or an Aprilia. Or even better -- if Yamaha makes their rumored return next year I'd LOVE to see him on the new YZF-R1M!

Strong innuendo @ Laguna that Beubier will be on the new Yamaha in WSBK next year.

That would be EXCELLENT!

Having Americans in WSBK would definitely reignite my interest. Once HERO/EBR dropped out of the series, I took it off of my DVR schedule.

I had to ask my buddy to make sure I heard correctly, but they also were talking about Nicky on the Yamaha as well for an All-American team. I feel the Beubier rumor seemed to have more substance to it.

And I have to agree about disappearing interest in WSBK. With Rea having a massive lead (I believe he could wrap it up in Sepang?) I don't have much interest after the Laguna Round...except to see if Chaz can continue his run on tracks that may not fit the Ducati as well as Laguna.

Interesting that Beaubier, Kev Coghlan and Josh Brooks will all be wild carding on R1s in the German superbike series following injuries to the regular riders.

Brooks has been really impressive on the R1 in BSB and is very keen to move on to international racing.

According to everyone's SECOND favorite website (Asphalt & Rubber), Canepa wasn't even RACING when that incident occurred; it was just a track day.

According to them, the rider who was the victim is finally seeing his day in court and the altercation caused him to break his collarbone.

The case now revolves around PROVING that the rider in that fuzzy video really was Canepa...

PJ's race was very impressive. The depth of field in WSS is not great but Cluzel and Sofuoglu are seriously quick - beating them in a straight fight on the Honda will have a few superbike teams looking at him for next year.
He's had a year on superbikes in BSB and now knows the circuits on the WSB calendar.

Beaubier got a DNF and a 4th last weekend in the German series; Coghlan got an 8th and six fractured vertebra in race 2.
Josh Brooks is standing in at Assen but this wild carding is a bit risky if you are challenging for another title.
Yamaha already have Beaubier and Brooks looking for a ride in WSB and I'm guessing there will be a long queue of riders wanting to ride an R1 next year.
Sounds like there is a good chance of Beaubier and Jacobsen making it two quick Americans in the series in 2016.

Yeh Jacobsen looked good in BSB when velocity was showing it. They had an interview with him at Isle of Mann last year and he seemed like he had a good head on his shoulders.

"To address any confusion, Atlantic Metals division of BGI is a manufacturer of fabricated metal equipment in the architectural, electrical and lighting businesses. We are not in the scrap metal business. We make things. We make them here in Jersey, in the USA, with American engineers, American ingenuity, and American skilled labor. Been at it for over 30 years. We know how. EBR is intact and in good hands. Thanks for keeping the faith! More to come. Time to get to work..."

LOTS of discussion about this and links to several more articles on the Quickboard.

All indications are this is VERY good.

So Yamaha IS back for 2016, but they foolishly didn't sign either Cameron Beaubier (who I thought was a shoe-in) or Nicky Hayden (long shot, but he would've been a popular choice as well). Guess they really don't care about either building an audience in the States, or actually WINNING anything in their first year back...

Beaubier was a Marquez teammate on 125's, you see which way there careers went.

Unless another standout American like Ben Spies appears, I don't believe any American will be chosen for World Superbike or Moto GP.

I guess people have forgotten how well Josh Hayes did on his sole appearance in MotoGP. On a track he'd never seen before on a bike he'd never ridden before, he finished 7th substituting for Colin Edwards.

Beating Hayes on the same equipment ain't easy. OTOH, Herrin didn't do Americans any favors when he won the title from Hayes and then went to Moto2 and didn't even finish the season. I do believe Beaubier would be a completely different story though. And PJ certainly did himself proud in Europe this year!

Josh is 40 years old, doing an invited one off appearance is one thing, performing a entire season for score is something else.

Unfortunately Herrin never got into the groove and was completely shut out.

PJ looks to be a prospect. Time and opportunity will tell.

Hayes' age is definitely working against him on the world stage, yet he continually beats opponents much younger than he in MotoAmerica. I've no doubt he'd do very well in WSBK, but how many years does he have left at his level?

Remember: MOST people who do MotoGP wild cards bring up the BACK of the pack.

Perhaps Cameron's lack of experience on the European tracks is going against him?

Realistically, the learning curve is a season to learn the tracks, so maybe Yamaha didn't want to go thru a full season with that handicap?

I am guessing entering the World stage in a smaller displacement class makes it a bit easier to compete with less track knowledge, so maybe the PJ Jacobsen path is the best to get to WSBK?

I dunno.

Nicky was much less of a "sure thing" so not seeing him get a seat with Yamaha isn't too shocking. At least we can rule out lack of track knowledge as a factor...

I guess Yamaha had a choice: Familiarity with the tracks vs. familiarity with the motorcycle. I guess we know which way they went...

Does anyone know if Canepa had his day in court last month regarding the video that showed up where he apparently caused another rider to crash?

I just googled it and couldn't find any info after a late August article in RRW.
