Thanks Arvel. I got CMRA's home page http://www.cmraracing.com/ now with all the tracks they run. Hallet being one of them. Oklahoma is doable. I just want to keep traveling time down to six hours. That's why I wanted so bad for Heartland Park to work for me. Only three hours away. According to CMRA rules you have to start on a bike of 750cc or less. Hopefully I can get them to understand my S1 will not perform like an inline 1200cc. So I'll probably take one of their newbie courses.

Thanks Trip. Looks like I'll be signing up for one day at STAR. Gee's how could you confuse the two?

Cool, now all I have to do is finish my rear sets and skin out a couple cows for leathers.

Arvel, I check out newenough from time to time. No luck for me. It's not the hairy ralph part that's the problem, it's the BIG. I don't have any dreams of being a "racer", I just want to learn to go around and around in a confident manner. Something about power to weight ratio.

Not that big, Arvel. Just sort of. I'm a mere stripling of 6'2" at a scrawny 265 (three months ago it was 290). Not big enough to single handidly conquer the world but it stands in the way of fitting into normal peoples cloths. Especially motor cycle racy people, bunch a midgets! In the magazines they talk about the average rider weight being 170, I passed that up when I was thirteen.

Shoot, I tip the scales between 240 and 250 and I'm about 6'0. I have the same problem. Tell me what worked, I'd love to see 200 again.

Check Runners World for their beginner's running program. From what everyone tells me, apart from having the flu for three weeks, running is the quickest way to safely lose weight. Of course you can't tell that by me right now as I sit here with a painfull case of shin splints. Bicycling is my backup plan if my legs don't hold up, plus the cycling is closer to riding the Buell (sometimes my lungs go potato-potato-potato when I'm exercising).

Anyway, since we're about the same size, and since Ralph seems to be approaching our weight class, and to keep this "Racing" related, I'll race you to 220Lbs.

You can count me in. . . .

After seeing THE WOZ loose about 60 pounds, I started looking in the mirror and pricing up about 4 replacement Aerostiches.

Well, strange things happen. Turns out one of our very own is one of the "premier" trainer of Marathoners and has agreed to take me on as a "pet project".

I suspect I am not the only one who remembers all th well how great of shape they WERE in. I went to college on a gymnastics scholarship and even at a hefty 183# could swing some mean high bar.

I'm at 225# and remember how darn good it felt to ride, even at 210#. For now, I'm just doing the heart monitoring, a hour a day on the Aerodyne and light weights. Even in my rotund state, running 3 miles (thanks Uncle Sam) is no problem, but I want to start getting some speed back.

I think for me the big "deal maker" was when my Astronaut Uncle (very cool when your business card says "Cheif - Space Medicine") told me, at my Father's funeral. . "weight is your enemy". Actiing alone, dabetes, coronary heart diesease, clooged whatever seldom ever takes anyone out without weight as an accomplice.

Anyway....sounds like the start of an ala 12-step support program.

Any truth to the rumor that as you loose weight you gain a beard ?

And yes, there is a coorelation between whiskers and weight.

Mikej, watching the scale spin? That's nothing. You should see what happens when is spins around so fast that it smacks into the end of its travel and gets stuck!

Arvel, thanks for reminding me about newenough. I hadn't checked in a few months, kinda given up. They have a suit for a freak of nature over there (not to be said to the mans face though). Aside from being 6'7"!!!! the chest is the same size as mine and the torso length is about the same. I went ahead and got it. Hopefully I can get it taylord to fit right. The cows of the world thank you.

It looks like I'll be spending some time at Hallet this year. Gotta get these darn rear sets finished.

I'm gonna check into it, but I'm not hopeful. A party interested in that suit asked about having it modified and they basically told him to buy a new one. I'm pretty handy and if I get over my head there's a guy in town who I trust. It's gonna be real interesting. Life can be like that.

Anyone hit the track yet this season? Our first race at Blackhawk is April 7th & 8th. Although I won't be racing my Buell at this event I will have the mighty Hawk there.

Hey Marty! why don't you fill us in on the development of your X1 from street to race bike?

If any midwest Buellers are interested Beth and I will be at Blackhawk on May 7th for an open track day.I want her to get some track time before we go to the California superbike school in June.

Track day question: what is required to set up a street bike for track day? I'll head off to the Learning Curves web site, but thought I'd get this section active again. Basically, if I ride to the track, how much tape and wire do I need to bring before I get on the track?

Jim, how'd you do on April 7th-8th? Race report?

Most require full safety wire, some require headlight removal, some allow tape.

It depends on the school/track team, and what level you'll be riding in. For our local track days, all they require in the "Street Rider" group is taping up the lights - oh, and for Buells especially, they want you to safety wire the oil filter - they had an incident :-)

The faster you go, the more prep is required. Oil drain plug, brake mounting bolts, front axle pinch bolts etc. The track days I've been to all allow you to run with your lights installed, but prefer if you disable the lights (just pull the fuses) and tape over anything that will shatter in a crash.

First track day of the season this weekend - it's gonna be cold, but I rearing to go :-)))

What is involved in safety wiring stuff? I've seen pics of Court's wiring of the throttle cables to the basket, but how do you wire an oil filter, drain plug, brake mounting bolt, etc.

The oil filter is just a big hoseclamp around the filter, then safety wiring that to something static. Bolts and nuts require a bunch of drilling tiny holes with disintegrating drillbits, and either a drillpress, a jig, or a very steady hand. I've never seen anyone drill safetywire holes in nuts and bolts without removing said hardware from the bike first. And pointing my laser-pointer at the nut didn't work at all.

Doing a search with the search tool here gave a whole bunch of hits, and I remember someone posted a bunch of "how to drill" tips back before the last big system crash of the site.

I think I'm going to start wiring up some stuff on my bike.

just got done my first [kinda sorta] track day on the S1.
went to street performance school at the local track. [top speed kinda close to street speed, but hit 230 kph on straightaway last lap don't tell!]

may i suggest to any one who owns one of these machines, take it to a track, its beuatiful!
i love my bike! i love my bike! i love my bike!

only problem i can see is this is gonna cost me a lot of cash for race school, the dreaded safety wiring, parts, and the neverending scrounging for tires.

The best thing about track days is that the pits are usually close enough to push the bike in. Mine disrupted another ride with a broken battery lead, second one in 2 weeks. Nice way to impress 50 sportbike riders how reliable a Buell is.

Sorry to hear that tripper:

i got into the habit years ago of giving the bike [any bike, including mountain] a once over before and after EVERY ride and haven't been let down yet. [the pinch bolt that holds on the shifter arm worked its way loose halfway through the day, took 10 seconds to fix]

besides i realy do not care if i impress the squids or not, i'm here to have fun.

try doing what Rocket does with his cables, also make sure that they are not too short, that may cause the cable to die prematurely.

Sorry bout that, bad day you know. I did figure out that when I replace something DO NOT install it like the dealer did. They had installed a new battery and attached the negative lead pointing up in the air. When it vibrated itself apart I installed the replacement in the same manner. It lasted 2 weeks. This time I applied a little of Courts milk crate thinking to the problem, and now have both leads supported against the body of the battery so they do not shake themselves off. Should last forever now.

I don't care about impressing people, but it just adds to the negative myth when your Buell rolls to a stop in front of 50 bikes as you attempt to hold the battery cable on, clutch, start, snick into gear, and get rolling. (Wish I had 2 left hands!) The Buell lets off a large backfire every time the battery cable slips off so it's rather hard to be anonymous. All in good fun.
