According to a Facebook post from a Jennings GP instructor, Nico Canepa just destroyed the circuit record, previously held by Ben Bostrom, on his first visit there on the EBR. Pat Mooney |

The “Official” track record at Jennings GP is 1.14.51 (based on the website) by Geoff May on a Suzuki GSX R1000. Larry Pegram ran an unofficial time of 1:13.813 on a Ducati 1098R. Ben Bostrom later ran an unofficial 1.13.72 beating Larry Pegram. If the post above is correct, it looks like Niccolo Canepa went faster than 1.13.72 on the EBR. I am looking forward to more news. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/ben-bostrom-un der-unofficial-lap-record-as-testing-concludes-at- jennings-gp/ |

Wow, I guess "destroyed" is the correct word for what he did to the record... |

>>>Wow, I guess "destroyed" is the correct word for what he did to the record... It's "destroyed" in Italian and "DEFRCIKINMOLISHED" in English.2.26 seconds . . . in a game played in 1/1000ths of a second . . . is amazing. Merry Christmas from East Troy! |

Odd how well Canepa did on an unfamiliar track, with no personal data, on a newly introduced, to him anyway, motorcycle...is it not?!?! Merry Christmas TO East Troy! |

Jennings is a 2 mile rider's track. Big HP doesn't really help you there as much. A bike that handles as well as the RX is bound to do very well there. It does bode well for the 2015 WSbk season, if that type of performance also translates to the longer big HP tracks as well. That said, this is AWESOME!!!!! |

Apparently Canepa is to do further testing at NOLA Motorsports Park while he's in the US. I'm guessing that's not a huge horsepower track either. I saw Eslick finish 2nd there (knocked back to third due to a penalty) on an EBR at the AMA race in 2013. |

Top speeds at Jennings are in the high 150's top speeds at NOLA can get into the high 170 to low 180s on a liter bike. NOLA has some longer front straight and HARD braking zones. Its kind of the opposite of the Jennings. between the rain and the supercar event there this weekend I doubt he is testing at NOLA today. |

He was riding one of Pegram's bikes for testing. From what I was told, it was the "lower hp" bike. |

Ha! I just struck gold- a post-Jennings test interview with Canepa: http://paologozzi.gazzetta.it/en/2014/12/22/english-nick-canepa-another-genoa-explorer-discovers-america-ebr-ok/ One big highlight- They tested both dual disk and ZTL front brakes; the record was set with dual disks BUT he sees the advantage of the ZTL and they are still working to develop it. Great interview... We now have our new hero ... Nico Canepa.... Well basically Canepa confirmed what we already knew ..... 1. The EBR handles well.... He said that the EBR handles better than the Panigale, that means that EBR possibly is the top handling bike in WSBK at the moment... GREAT NEWS .... 2. The ZTL offers advantages in handling , but is less powerfull that the 2-disc setup.... He lapped faster with the 2-disc system (as many of us were screaming about), so the team is willing to go to a 2-disc system if they will be more competitive with it.... I wonder if EBR can switch from one setup to the other depending on which track they are racing or during the same weekend, from qualifying sessions to the races........ 3. They need more power from the engine ...... 4. Nico Canepa is an excellent rider , exactly what EBR was needing to develop the bike that extra bit to get it a top 10 contender .... I am looking forward to the next WSBK tests in Europe ! GO EBR ! |

Great interview. And the comments about the front brake indicate the guy is pretty open minded and mechanically insightful. |

I don't have to dismiss Geoff and his huge contributions to be able to appreciate Nico Canepa. Read the article, at one point Nico talks about the Jennings track being one the EBR team has data on. That data came from hard work from a number of people, including likely Geoff, who is a through, meticulous, and talented rider. He did a great job at what was needed and asked. I hope I get to root for him again wherever he lands. If I was hiring, I'd ask him for a resume and try and make a hole for him, he is good people. |

I am with Bill on Geoff. I watched him race several times, met him and Jodi and talked to him. Nice kid. EBR could do worse than having a spot for him somewhere repping the bike, meeting people, riding domestically. That being said, exciting news above and looking forward to them testing with the other teams as well. |
