The mistake here is considering anything written by Stupidbike planet as informed journalism. I still think the article was funny and,IMO probably close to the truth. Even if it's way off base, it seems in character for Stoner the moaner. |

Re: practice at MotoGp, Rossi's victory was incredibly sweeter because of the irony of Marquez crashing. Ironic, because young master M spent the last FP overtaking the old master then slowing down to let him get a few 10s of metres ahead and then passing him again. I will refrain from conjecture about what young M was doing or hoped to achieve. |

I don't think THEY were either. The word "PROBABLY" in the subject, along with the very first word in the very first sentence "Pretend" pretty much says right there it is conjecture. No where do they present it as fact. And Crusty echoes my opinion PERFECTLY. |

By the way, another observation (and I wish Matt were here to share his insight): It looks like now, after it is really too late to matter, Cal FINALLY figured out the secret to the Desmosedici. According to articles I've read, all of the prior riders of that beast, from Casey Stoner up through Andrea Dovisioso, have said the same thing: No matter what you do to the bike, it doesn't change the riding characteristics. Casey was apparently the only one who figured out the real secret prior to Cal: Stop looking for the "best setup" and just ride the balls off the thing. The rumor was that Casey just told his engineers to "turn off all that electronic shyte" and let him take over. From recent interviews, Cal has figured that out now. Too bad it happened too late in the season to make any difference and next year he goes back to a satellite team, after making all that stink last year about getting a Factory Ride. |

Is it actually Crutchlow making that decision, or has it been made for him through the lack of updates/enhancements? I mean, it comes down to the same thing, but I'd love to have had the ability to eavesdrop on the Ducati box and race meetings over the last five months Regardless of what the path was that led Cal to this point, it's been good to see him riding the way he has the past few races. |

It might've forced his hand into getting his epiphany. Knowing you aren't going to get any updates certainly changes your perspective. |

I dont believe Stoner shut it off. If that was true his pace would of slowed alot. These electronics have made these riders and bikes faster as a whole. Take them away and they'd all go slower but at the same time racing would be much more exciting |

Yeah well, when the story first broke a few years ago, no one here believed it either. On the other hand, if you've ever seen the slow-motion footage of Stoner riding the Ducati, you have to wonder how the heck he wasn't crashing at every single turn. Both wheels were rarely (if EVER) in line, and both ends seem to be drifting across the asphalt. He was constantly wrestling the bars to keep it going in the direction he wanted. Really mind-boggling stuff to watch, but you don't see it at "real speeds." (Message edited by jaimec on October 24, 2014) |

It certainly would be interesting to see how the guys adapt to no electronics. The Master would seem to have an edge, but it's been a long time since anyone has rode without the electronic aids. It's amazing how much faith they have to put in the electronics these days. A couple years ago at the Laguna Seca GP, we camped close to turn 6 (which is a bumpy left hander that exits straight up the hill towards the Corkscew). Pretty much everyone would just pin it coming out of the turn and let the traction control do all the work of getting the bike up the hill as fast as possible. Some of the squirming rear ends and darkies all the way up the hill were fun to watch, but at the same time you knew it was all electronics doing what the right hand used to control. ALso, one year at Turn 5 after a practice start at the end a FP session, Lorenzo highsided into low earth orbit after somehow he turned off his TC. Reportedly, it was some sort of gear selection sequence during the practice start that accidentally turned off the TC. That's what I remember anyway. Drag out some old 500 two smokers and have a "lets see who can launch higher than Schwantz did" contest. Last race Rossi proved that age and experience count on a corner that suckered in and defeated some of the best in all categories that weekend. |

Remember last year when Marquez accidentally cut the sensor wire on Pedrosa's bike? Apparently, with the sensor offline, the Honda default was "NO traction control" and the minute Pedrosa whacked open the throttle (as you can do with traction control) he launched himself into orbit. I seem to remember Ben Spies having a similar issue with the Pramac Ducati. SOME action he performed (I can't remember what) shut off the traction control, and when he whacked open the throttle it also launched him into the sky. What's the point of making a motorcycle SO powerful you can't ride it without electronic aids? One of the reasons that new Yamaha YZF-R3 looks so attractive to me... |

They can ride them without electronic aids....... it just helps to know whether they are switched on or not before opening the throttle! |

Yeah... Dani didn't know that sensor was gone, or he sure as shit wouldn't have grabbed that much throttle. |

I misspoke. I meant NEXT weekend. I had "Daylight Savings time to Standard Time" on the brain. Superbike Planet (everybody's FAVORITE website here) is saying there's a rumor that this weekend might be EBR's last in WSBK. Maybe with the new MotoAmerica series starting up next year that's not a bad thing. |

Damned shame: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresul ts/MotoGP/2014/October2/No-Valencia-wild-card-for- Colin-Edwards2/ But at least I can say "I was there" for his last race AND his "Farewell Celebration" at Indianapolis this year. |

Interestingly, Alex Marquez protested jack Miller for aggressive riding at Malaysia. The FIM kicked out the protest but obviously The Marquez brothers have run across someone who rides as hard as they do. The gloves will be off in Valencia. |

Alex is only in the championship lead because of aggressive moves that he made on Jack at Aragon. Jack didn't give an inch on several attempted passes by Alex in Malaysia, it was going to be no pass or they were both going down. I hope Jack takes it in Valencia. The Malaysia moto3 race was a great race to watch. (Message edited by al_lighton on November 01, 2014) |

Interesting reading for someone like me that simply "assumed" (and you know what they say about what happens when you "assume") that motorcycle racing was just like bicycle racing, but with engines: http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/wsbk/motorcycle-ra cing-team-sport-op-ed/ Although I do recall reading a couple of years ago that May and Eslick agreed to help each other in the early part of each race, but then take the gloves off and go "Every man for himself" in the latter part of the race. That does make sense to me, you're racing for your employer first, and individual glory second. At least, that's the way I'd see it. When Edwards was Rossi's team mate it was clear that he knew his role as Rossi's "Wing Man." That was probably Rossi's biggest complaint when they replaced Edwards with Lorenzo. In any event, the article implies that Rossi knows when to play "wing man" to Lorenzo too when the situation calls for it. In my eyes, that just cements him as "The GOAT." Of course, the two will be going tooth and nail in Valencia, as Pedrosa is now out of the picture and one of them WILL finish second in the championship... |

Maybe if Jack Miller wasn't such an ass, I'd listen a little closer to him grousing... I went back and watched the race at Aragon again and again, watched it from every angle... Alex may have been aggressive, but he was clean and race direction agreed. Aggressive wins races. Sour grapes just taste like crap. Both Marquez brothers do what they do with class and exhibit good sportsmanship throughout. Miller can't even be bothered to check his language. That's how I see it. |

2015 is going to be interesting. Miller is playing with the big boys now. he didn't exactly set the world on fire in the test event today. Suzuki have Esparago and Vinales to ride the new bike, which looks like it handles very well indeed. It has teething problems, but it sure looks like Suzuki intends to play to win. No sign of the Aprilia yet. Bradl gets a new bike. Ducati looks to be a major player, and reports say the new Honda is faster yet. (it has not shown up in public testing yet). Gonna be a great season. I went ahead and re-upped for the video package. They will have coverage for all the off season testing. Three hours of testing today at Valencia, plus interviews. |

"Sour grapes tastes like crap" maybe that's why Marquez protested Miller's riding when Miller returned the favour by refusing to be intimidated by him in Malaysia. Maybe that's why Marquez's formal protests were thrown out. The Marquez boys seem more adept at dishing out aggressive riding than they are at taking it. I've seen too many ultra aggressive wins by the Marquez clan to have any sympathy for them. |

I found myself watching several races this year wishing Iannone was on a more competitive machine because it was quite obvious he had no qualms whatsoever in giving back to Marc Marquez whatever he dished out... (Message edited by jaimec on November 11, 2014) |
