The fact that the disallowed lap was on his last qualifying tyre and the pole time was eventually set on a race tyre makes it even more impressive.

If this is true I'd LOVE to see it happen:

Guintoli has "dislocated his collarbone" in a cycling accident but will be in Moscow this weekend.
Both Chaz Davies and Guintoli seem to have lost their early season promise. Unless Melandri and Laverty can challenge more consistently this season could be over quite early.

Couldn't happen to a nicer chap.........: )

Marco Melandri won Race 1 (mostly through attrition and smart pitting). There will not be a Race 2.

Another rider killed : ( Surely they should not have even started the race in those conditions, and I'm sure there will be a full investigation.

Cancelling the rest of the meeting was the right thing to do.

It looks like the original poster has made the video "Private." I can no longer see it either (of course, seeing it just once, I doubt I'll ever be able to forget it).

Bombshell from BMW (although to be honest not really unexpected after they gave up the full factory team last year)..........

At the end of the 2013 season, BMW Motorrad Motorsport will terminate its factory involvement in the FIM Superbike World Championship. The main focus and some of the resources of BMW Motorrad's commitment to sport will switch to other motorsport activities like the international customer sports programme from 2014 on.

""BMW Motorrad Motorsport will end its involvement in the World Superbike Championship after this season", explained Stephan Schaller, general director BMW Motorrad. "This is consistent with the strategic realignment of our brand. BMW Motorrad will now focus on the further expansion of the very successful product portfolio over 500 cc, the expansion of product segments under 500 cc, e-mobility and the development of market potential in emerging economies like Brazil and Asia. Only those who act consistently today are well prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. BMW Motorrad will remain involved in motorsport and in doing so we will focus on the international customer sport in all its facets. I want to thank everybody who has supported us on this long and successful journey."

"The team is a very professional and motivated group of people and I am sure they will continue to do everything to end the season on a high note", commented Andrea Buzzoni, general manager BMW Motorrad WSBK. "Twenty thirteen is a good year, the atmosphere within the team is great and also our riders, Marco Melandri and Chaz Davies, are doing an excellent job. We are satisfied with the current results and, of course, we will keep working hard. Therefore I am convinced we can celebrate more successes with Marco and Chaz as the season goes on. I am sorry about the decision, but I understand the strategic decision making of the company. I want to thank all the people who are involved in this project."

Reading between the lines this actually says.....You can stick your new rules where the sun don't shine, we are off to race elsewhere....

Where that leaves Melandri, Davies and the Goldbet team is anyone's guess, and yet another team gone from the rapidly diminishing ranks of WSB : (

So much for any offers from BMW to Nicky Hayden, then.

I think BMW is doing the wise choice considering their balance sheets. they are not amking as much money on car sales, so that also hurts the wallet.
the teams they had could not produce, so is best to kill it and stop the bleeding.
I hate saying it, but EBR if they don't seriously improve and get more podiums then last year should think about killing the race team and put that money instead on cheaper bike price.
you dont need racing to develop a bike. look at BMW they were the bike to have until they went racing and then they looked dumb when they can't win

EBR is racing because Erik wants to race. That is the best reason to race there is, because you really want to do it.

Hayden would have a lot to offer in developing the Panigale. He has vast amounts of development experience with Ducati and Preziozi's concepts.

Rossi has way more experience in development then Hayden and he could not do anything for Ducati.
the engineers are the key to the bikes not the riders. the engineers are the true brains

It's more that the engineers have to be willing to LISTEN to what the rider is telling them. Per Rossi, when he offered "criticism" to Yamaha's engineers, they knuckled down to correct the issue. When he did the same to Ducati's engineers, they responded like puppy dogs that were just yelled at, followed by the stubborn conclusion that they were right, and Rossi was wrong.

the engineers are the true brains

However, engineers are seldom riders who can push a bike anywhwere near its limits (with the exception of Peter Williams and Erik Buell), so can only offer what they THINK should work. The rider is the only one who can make it work and who knows if it is the right direction to go. Sometimes engineering solutions are so wide of the mark they are hopeless (Elf Honda anyone?).

As Jaimec has said, Ducati chose not to listen to their expert ridersand have found themselves down a technological blind alley (both in MotoGP and WSB)despite what their riders have said for years

Casey Stoner was probably both the best AND the worst thing that ever happened to Ducati.

The best, because he won them their first (and only) World Championship in the premiere class.

The worst, because it didn't matter WHAT you gave him to ride, he was going to find a way to win with it no matter what. But even he was getting less and less podiums on the Desmosedici as the years went by.

jaime, Stoner was ill. he is not GOD.
when lorenzo "superman" gets hurts he gets points but no podiums.
as far as riders and development, they are going to help the bike fit thier style no the average Joe. Stoner is the only true rider becuase he took the bike to its limits, something the rest of ducati riders including Rossi, have not been able to do.
Rossi can not squeeze the limits of a bike, like stoner.

XB1125R Stoner took a Ducati to its limits. Not the bike Rossi rode. Not the bike Nicky has been riding the last couple years. Not the anyone has ridden in the last couple years. You should really brush up on your facts. You have really no idea how you come across on this forum. Its tiresome!!!

Nicky was with stoner and rossi, he sucked while stoner or rossy was there. it does not matter what bike it was.
remember rossi was going to take stoner bike and win, so much for rossi and his genious crew chief. I think stoner proved he could win with any bike unlike rossi.
give it up

You constantly and conveniently seem to forget that Rossi has won 9 world championships riding Aprilia, Honda and Yamaha machines in various classes and with various rule structures and capacities. The fact that he had two bad years at Ducati should not cloud his previous (and future) achievements, especially given that other top class riders were equally humbled by the bike during their tenure with the factory. Stoner has won a fraction of the races that Rossi won over the years and never won a 125 or 250 title.

Both of Stoners MotoGP world championships came when he was riding the acknowledged best bike in the class at that time, so it would have been interesting to see what he would have done with the poor performaing Yamaha that Rossi/Burgess took over and made into a winner.

As for that "Genius Crew Chief," Jeremy Burgess also worked with Freddy Spencer, Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan.

Yeah, those guys never accomplished anything either.

Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone THINK you're an idiot than to open it and confirm their suspicions.
