AMA should ahve at least one race in Canada and one in Mexico. they need to make the sport grow. you know the Mexican like the Gringos. just look at how much money the NFL has made in Mexico. It would be great if they had a track in Cancun. |

The AMA needs to sort out its US operation before trying to muscle in on Canada (who already have a perfectly good superbke series of their own) and Mexico. Maybe they won't want AMA races, but would probably feel very differently about hosting a WSB race instead? Until motorcycle racing gets more manufacturer involvement, a more professional image and a bigger viewing public/higher profile in the US I can't see them exporting the series very succesfully. Maybe if there were droves of young Mexican or canadian riders in AMA Superbike they might want a slice of the action, but it ain't like that yet. |

I don't think a lot of Canadian tracks would pass AMA Safety Standards... Mexico would have to BUILD tracks... do they even have any?? |

come on! what privateer Pro would be willing to drag his *ss & all that equipment the bazillion miles to Mexico for an AMA Pro race? DMG purses suck + you MUST pre-enter - look at the way-down number of Daytona entries AMA Pro road racing & their NASCRAP overlords are killing our domestic sport! |

I take it all back - apparently NASCRAP was a step ahead of us BadWebbers - why take a US series overseas when Florida can import one here? NASCAR: Mexico Series To Race At PIR http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/nascar-mexico-se ries-to-race-at-pir/ so the hot DMG ticket might be lotsa foreign riders & their low-level feeder series to replace AMA Pro.... |

The real problem with AMA racing series is not them but the American public. They are just not interested in MC road racing. Speed dropped WSBK simply because NO ONE watches it. The ratings were below dismal. Only a very tiny fraction of people who ride motorcycles in the US watch any MC racing. If the AMA wants better coverage then they would have to pay difference between what the MC race can generate in cash and what some other show can. This would be a huge amount of money and I doubt they could afford it for very long. The days when the manufacturers saw a large advertising value in the series seem to be gone. It is going to be harder and harder to make this series work unless you can figure out some way to get the Europeans and Asians to watch it. |

Dave if someone or a group wants to market it right they can make it happen. Nascar did it.... it can be done with Bikes. Look at Moto-X ??? they have done well. |

I think it is a tough sell. The X games stuff gets on TV as it draws a very big audience. MCRR never seems to be able to attract the crowds of non bikers,; heck it can't even get the bikers to watch. DMG has done a lot right; the product is far better than it used to be, but with NASCAR sliding downhill and the endurance racing series really struggling I don't think they have access to the cash they need. |

DMG (NASCAR) has been after the Latino crowd for a while. Generally they are family based and gear heads, just the customers they are looking for. The NASCAR Mexico series, at PIR this weekend, is all about getting a foothold with the US based Mexican customers, rather than a Mexican feeder system. NASCAR has probably tapped all the WASP crowd and is looking to expand |

It is going to be harder and harder to make this series work unless you can figure out some way to get the Europeans and Asians to watch it. That would need European/Asian interest in terms of leading riders and also much much improved coverage. The AMA racing that I have seen on Speed was terribly covered by the TV company compared to what we are used to here with Eurosport/BBC/Sky coverage of motorsports. However the biggest stumbling block would be getting teams and riders to leave WSB/BSB in order to race in the US. Once upon a time that was relatively easy because the pay was good, now it isn't, so they race at home instead Until the AMA gets the major manufacturers/promoters back with lots of money and a 'Big Show' I can't see the series progressing more than it has already, and it will remain a minor sport in TV audience terms. In the UK motorcycle racing is also a minority sport, but at least we get TV coverage WSB/MotoGP doesn't get a mention on the national news despite having British riders at or near the top. The last rider that was well known by non motorcycle riders here was Barry Sheene! |
