Erik Buell Racing qualified 12th in 1st round and improved to 11th in 2nd round of qualifying. Outside/middle of row 3. About .4 seconds between Q8 and Q11, pretty tight mid pack. Qualifying Times link The American Superbike race starts at 3:15 EST IIRC Speed TV will have coverage tonight at 11:00 EST for both DSB and American SB.\newurl |

Looked like Geoff had some engine trouble coming down the front straight on the first lap and had to park the bike. Better luck for Erik Buell Racing tomorrow. |

I sent a text to Wolfridgerider who's working pit lane at Mid Ohio at/near the Erik Buell Racing pits. Haven't heard back from him yet with details. |

He had a noise in the bottom end and pulled it in. Disappointing, but some valuable set up info was gained. Tomorrow 99 will be running the bike that was built for California. |

from the Erik Buell Racing Facebook page Oh well, we lost a motor today, looks like it dropped a valve. It was an old motor with a lot of race miles on it; we thought we could get one more race out of it, but not to be. So, a fresh motor for tomorrow. Good news is that Geoff was quicker yet in the early stages of the race, so we are hoping for a good day tomorrow!a

He looked great in practice. Seemed to be running strong and was riding smoothly and aggressively. If I remember correctly, he dropped out on the 4th or 5th lap. Pretty early on. I am really hopeful for a strong showing on Sunday. |

Watched it on Speed. Looked to be going o.k. but didn't show much of him. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. What I want to know is where do they get these announcers? When commenting on Eslick said "everyone thought he had an unfair advantage last year. Good to see that he is doing well this year." WTF? Changed the channel and watched the Tour de France. Another great day of racing at Mid Ohio! The sportbike race was just awesome with 3 great riders finishing on top. Geoff had a good day and another top 10 finish! All the data they are gathering now is helping them the 1190 ready. It only gets better from here. Go Erik Buell Racing! |

This was my first trip to Mid Ohio for live races. What a great laid back facility, and crowd. Great access to pits and racers, kids get in free, and lots of fantastic seating everywhere. I'll definitely be back, and Jack (my second oldest, and also bike bug bitten) will be a fan forever. I was also impressed with both Danny Eslick, who went on to win the race not 30 minutes after this picture was taken..
And equally impressed with Geoff May. Personable, thoughtful, and sharp. We are lucky to have him, and he put on a great show on a bike having issues. "Never Quit" indeed! He made it a lot of fun talking to Jack, and found out that his first bike (KX-60) is Jacks first bike. And they both said "that thing is FAST". Jack (10 years old now) spent the rest of the day asking me questions about how old you have to be to get a race license, and how you go about getting a ride and race team. He was really thinking it through.
Thanks to Erik Buell Racing for never quitting, and thanks to Geoff May for making a fantastic memory that will stick with my son forever. You have two great fans in Ohio! |

That is so cool and a continuing reminder of everything that brought me to Buell and has kept me passionate about it for over 22 years! The racers that seem to be drawn to riding Buells seem to embrace and embody all the wonderful traits that make it just good old fashioned fun to be a fan. I've met Geoff May only briefly at Monticello while filming the riding portion of the piece for the History Channel and found him to be, just as Jack did, just a down right nice person. Kinda cool that in addition to being nice he's also so talented and represents Buell so capably. I think we are on the verge of entering the best time ever to be a Buell Owner and Race Fan . . . Jack has impeccable timing. Court |

I suspect Jack and I will have a Buell restoration project when he gets older. An S2 would be cool, or maybe an S1, but an early XB9 or XB9SX would probably be the best choice. Unless somebody dusts off some dirt bike ideas... |

Need a couple KLR's? If so, let me know and I'll see if I can get them delivered. I also have a great "abandoned" Bandit 1200. |

My last "cheap" bike cost me a fortune... it was a $750 KDX-200 that needed $2000 in parts. :/ That bandit would be a lot fun though... but Jack wouldn't be allowed to touch it until he is 30 years old. |

Hmmm, Court, which KLR? I know a particular ex submariner that is interested in KLR's.... Brad |

I see John Ashmead in the XR race results, didn't he win a Daytona 200 in '89 on a several year old Interceptor? |

Sweet pics Reep and Jack. Makes me an even bigger fan of Eslick-always nice to see a person loving doing what he's doing. Wish me and my two wheeled fiend could have made it up to meet you and yours, but zat's the way it goes-first time we've missed a mid-o scooter event in 4 yrs...Looks like you guys had fun though-and you're right great place to watch racing. |
