I think the thread below may have been trying to point to the facebook/twitter info on the Erik Buell Racing site. From Twitter: 1190rr wins GTO, Supertwins, and Unlimited GP. Geoff onboard (at least in Unlimited GP). 3/3 day for Erik Buell Racing at Road America in Wisconsin. LJM |

quote:Good results testing at Road America. Used the endurance race to test significant changes that required a lot of pit time to swap parts, but Geoff took the lead back each time. Much faster than anyone else in the race, but pulled out near the end to not mess up the points standings for the regulars. Then some people commented that we must have broken, so the team went out and won three of the short races. By a lot.
I'm kinda thinking some of the naysayers may end up wishing they'd held their comments. Geoff pretty much did the same thing Shawn did to the KTM factory group last week. . . . I think they should get used to being beaten by laps, not seconds. Go Buell racing . . . I've lost count of the podium finishes in the last 10 days! |

I had two podium finishes on saturday. 3rd in GTL and 3rd in LWSB. Was going to take second in LWGP but on the third lap I high-sided something horrible in turn three. Bike is pretty darn beat up and so is my body. |

I had a fun and productive weekend and enjoyed watching Geoff May blast around R.A.!! I've watched the top CCS 1000cc racers literally run away from the competition but to see May beating them by 19-20 seconds in 4 lap races really brings home how much talent he has on a very capable motorcycle. It was nice to finally meet Smoke (now I know why he's called that, the dude is FAST!!) and meeting Travis. We were pitted next to him and the Hoban Bros. trailer so we were all glad to hear he was not seriously injured in his crash. He’s a very nice young man who has the speed gene, we’ll hear more about this guy in the coming years!! I'm not sure if fellow Buell racer, Roger Hunter, from Topeka posts here but we had a great dual in Thunderbike and I really had fun racing with him. I ran my fastest lap times ever, Sunday, not fast compared to some but a real kick to me! I also passed folks in the Carousel for the first time in two races on Sunday and believe me that's better than any amusement park ride!! My results were... Lightweight Supersport - 4th both days Lightweight Formula 40 - 5th Sat / 6th Sun Thunderbike - 3rd Sat / 4th Sun Thanks for everyone's support, I really do appreciate it!! |

had a great time and glad to meet new people and see my Buell friends! it was a long trip but well worth it. got there Thursday afternoon but had to wait until 6pm to get credentials and access to the track due to the NESBA trackday being held Thursday. i had swung by Erik Buell Racing in East Troy, Wi to pick up a few parts and get help with my recurring clutch issues. Michael and Tony fixed me up and Tony had the fix for the clutch-he increased the diaphragm atmospheric vent groove and no more 1 day clutches!!! started practice on Friday dazed and confused trying to link the corners on a 4 mile track with times in the high 2:50's. by the end of practice i was in the mid 2:40's. for the first time the Team Challenge 2 hour was being held on the first day followed by double sprints on Sat/Sun so i was still not feeling that i knew the track at the start. we also had no good feel for the fuel burn here at my partner's speed(low 2:30's). Joel started the race planning to run 22 laps but to come in immediately if he saw the low fuel light on the cluster. on lap 19 i was at the track wall with the board when i noticed Joel coming down pit lane instead of the front straight. i was not helmeted and gloved so i ran for my stuff while the crew jumped into action. luckily we didn't lose much extra time as Joel told me not to worry about the pulsating front brake from all the pad deposit and that it would stop me fine. out i went and i knew what he was talking about as i braked for turn 1, the front brake was vibrating and pulsing but was useable and slowed me adequately. turn 5 was especially interesting like this. i also felt additional vibration in the bike during acceleration that turned out to be the chain idler sprocket had come apart.(didn't know what it was until after the race) i settled into a pace and attempted to keep up with whoever passed. When Geoff May came by on the big Buell he looked so fast and smooth that it seemed totally unrealistic that we could be on the same track, me hacking away and him exhibiting his art! i got to watch that 3 times in 3 different corners during my stint-WOW!! I found a good pace that i could keep but after having been out for about 15 laps i found that i was having to apply the front brake harder and harder to slow down for the 2 really slow parts, turn 5 and the turn after the carousel which were both left handers. a few laps later and i almost came in due to no brakes at all. i figured out that i had limited braking and that i needed to attempt to slow earlier and not quite attack those 2 corners hard. i kept on and shortly the white flag was shown and then the fuel light came on as i took the checkers. when i got back to the pits it turned out that i had finished the race with no brake pad material and metal to metal contact was all that was slowing me down. the backing plate was also slagged and must have been glowing and sparking when i hit the binders!! anyhow, we finished 4th in the open class and 9th overall!! this was good enough to put us in 2nd in the open class but dropped us to 6th overall for the year. i ended up running 22 laps and had some laps in the high 2:30's. my fuel calculations were a little off but we were not one of the teams parked on the course due to lack of fuel!! the Team Challenge race turned out to be my best practice of the weekend as 5 lap practice sessions at Road America were too short for me to start tying the track together. Sat and Sun later! ride safe(and fast) tim |

I raced against that 1190RR this weekend and I am here to tell you that thing is the real deal. Holy shit that thing is fast. My RC8R is no slouch and when Goeff and the 1190 went by me on the start of the Supertwins race my jaw dropped. I am no AMA professional like Geoff May. He is going to beat a club racer like me on a lesser machine but anyone there could see the sheer power this thing was laying down. I was able to follow Geoff out of turn 3. He laid a 100' patch of rubber because he was accelerating so hard and was gone. Pay close attention to Erik Buell Racing because there has got to be something exciting about to happen! They got my attention. |
