The time is again upon us for the Isle of Man TT (love it or hate it) and times in practice have yet again been sensational. John McGuinness did a lap in practice on Wednesday on his superbike at an AVERAGE speed of just over 130mph which is just ridiculuosly fast! When interviewed afterwards he said that he was held up by slower riders in places too! Ian Hutchinson did a 130mph+ lap on Thursday too so it is shaping up to be a classic. Hopefully the weather won't interfere too much and we'll get a record breaking year in all the good ways this year, and without any serious accidents of course. If you want to see what a 130mph lap looks like from the riders eye view, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-t3edy4Hv8&feature =player_embedded |

Does anyone remember what year Mark Farmer was killed racing a Britten at the TT ??? killed in practice 1994. Britten sent a team of 3 riders that year(Farmer, Nick Jeffries and Robbie Holden). The team continued to race at the event after farmers death but were marred by poor weather and water in the electrics during the race. Here is a good video of Mark (and Joey Dunlop) riding the Britten prior to the TT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0elt8-0pBgI |

Matt, those are two of the best classic race films I have ever seen. Thanks for digging them up and sharing them with us. The Britten footage is the only one of a Britten racing I have ever seen. Very sorry about the result though. Classic for sure! I also really like the movie "ON Any Sunday" another true classic which I have on a CD. I surely miss "the old days" Circuit racing is one thing, the Isle of Mann is a whole other story, street racing at its apex. Bob (Message edited by bob_thompson on June 04, 2010) |

Man, Ian Hutchinson is on fire. 3 races 3 wins so far. I think he has two more shots to win, one on Wednesday (don't know the class) and then the Senior TT on Friday. Has anyone ever won 5 TTs in a week? |

Here is another video from this years Sueprsport 600 race. Onboard with Guy Martin chasing Adrian Archibald. Remember that unlike short circuit racing these guys are supposed to be racing against the clock and not each other (ha ha!). If this doesn't make you jump you must be clinically dead already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Asg0G7B11Es&feature =player_embedded |

I do wish they had a twins class: it'd be great to hear Buells, Ducatis, KTM's and an occasional Moto Guzzi or even the Irving Vincent. Probably never happen though.... |

I think you can ride pretty much whatever you like in the Senior race up to a limit of 1000cc, the only proviso being that you can do the lap times required to stop you being a danger to other riders who are going faster. Ollie Linsdell is racing a Moto2 FTR in the senior race I think and his dad Mark raced a 500cc two stroke Paton last year. Michael Rutter was supposed to race his Ducati at the IOM this year but was gifted the HM Plant Honda ride so I don't know if he will run the Duc or not. The Superbike race runs pretty much to normal Superbike rules (1000cc 4 cyl and 1200cc twins, so there is no reason why a KTM RC8 or Ducati 1098 couldn't race in that The Buell 1125/1190 isn't homologated as a superbike over here as far as I know so wouldn't be eligible for the Superbike race (although if a good/fast/well known rider wanted to race one they would probably make an exception). |

Yes the TT guys sorta follow the world rules BUT the Senior is open to anything fast enough to make the cut. I remember Joey Dunlop having a 500 GP machine at his disposal a while ago. He ran some practice laps and while he said it was nice to finally have enough power on the mountain he thought the superbike worked better over the many bumpy parts. The Senior has seen things like the Brittan and one year the Norton rotary won. A Buell 1190 would likely be welcome if you could get a good team and rider to enter one. Erik Buell Racing is a shoestring operation and has nowhere near what they need for a TT unfortunately. |

We sold our race XB12 to a team (Irish Ago) that wanted to run that in the senior TT, although their entry was rejected because Ago's previous best time was outside the cut off for that year. As far as I know the bike has sat in an office on the Isle of Man ever since and not turned a wheel If Erik wanted to run a bike at the Isle of man then maybe the Manx GP would be a better option. This is run more for 'amateurs' than pro riders so the costs are far less. |

Hutchy just won number 4. 4 in a row by a second and a half over Micheal Dunlop. Hutchy broke the lap record on the last lap and then Dunlop broke that but it was not quite enough to stop Hutchy. He has one more race to go. Can he do what has never been done and win 5? Jimmy Moore of the USA got 15th. |

Matt, don't know that Erik wouldn't love race in the Isle of Man but at this point he is lucky to be fielding a bike in the AMA. His resources are simply non-existent. It was too bad about Kevin; he got caught up in the TT's much needed effort to boost the strength of the entry. I don't think the bike ever showed enough top speed to really turn acceptable laps anyway. Not that anyone would take a race bike out on a public road to see what the top speed was |

Ian Hutchinson has just made TT history by winning the Senior. This is 5 wins in the TT week. If you don't count the electric bike race Hutchy won all the solo TT's on offer this week. This is about the same racing mileage as 5 Daytona 200s in one week! |

What an amazing achievement! Certainly one that I never thought would happen in modern day TT racing and one that I doubt will ever be replicated. Hutchy enjoyed one of those weeks when everything clicked for him 100% and it couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. It was also nice to see the Motocysz eventually do something and win the electric race last after years of being 'the next big thing' in various different guises. Next year we will probably see the first 100mph average lap by an electric bike hopefully too. |

Yes, I thought those electrics were pretty impressive. Still a long way to go but they have also come a long way. Even 5 years ago we would have been stunned to to see one do that speed for one lap. |
