No doubt Cronan...the key difference between your setup and Dcb's is the SLICK.

A 7" Mickey or Goodyear (soft compound) has enough bite to go in the 7's in the QUARTER mile...(you will kill the tire in 3 passes, but it certainly can be done)..

Just got back Our Track was under water next to Ohio river outside of louisville.

Longer swing arm would help, who has a lead on a good drag version.
Mike I could take it to a 2.60. ratio, Shifting at 7k drops to 6k+/- a 100.
under 7K it struggle to climb right after shift????

CRONAN. Are you dropping the clutch or riding it out, I have a hard time riding it out, I'm not build for slipping it

I will try to attach pics of bike I just took.

I want a lock up clutch for extended swingarm with no wheelie bar bike about 125-130 hp motor. On my wheelie bar bike I will be running stock clutch. Let me find my timeslip for my xb9 stock with exhaust best past I had was 11.54 with a pirelli diablo tire about 30 lbs air

I should be getting my swingarm beginning of the week. The wheelbase will be 68 with adjustments to 64. I plan on running hot street maybe street pro depending on what kind of times I will cut. Still working on that

My best 1/4 is 12.43 Stock clutch, and 1.93 60"

I sent pictures to your email.
I may need to try a swing arm, and up the tire pressure,

I need a full day just test launches

I am almost done the beast, im hoping to run low 10s no wheelie bar, if I break 9s im excited

bars look like the could be raised also can't tell from the pic if you strapped the front end or not but doing that also will help improve your 60 foot times. And i am just letting the clutch fly... email me and i will show you some pics of some low to no cost things you can do to improve 60 foot times

Really good lookin bike...I see the problem...it is that round profile tire...get a slick...If you don't know where to get one...you can get one from Cycle Rama (one of our fine sponsors, and personal friends for years)...or visit Mickey Thompson's web site.

It will make a HUGE difference...if you get one...post back here for help on how to set it up and determine the proper tire pressure for YOU...

And you do not need to waste money on a long arm...you have a good bar setup...a long arm is only a crutch for classes where you are not allowed to use a bar...

I just put the Metzer Drag tech on, I have had lots of good reports on this tire, I will have to work with it a while until i can cash back up to replace.
I'm hoping with air adjustment to be able to make it work. After my sons wedding this coming Sat i can get back to test and tunes,

Next cash I have will go to a dyno tune,

Dcb, just got to looking at the pics of your bike, dose the custom exhaust have any kind of baffel? If not that could explain the drop in ET.

No Baffles, never had them, I only ride the strip with this bike, Only put 450 miles on it on the roads, before going to track only. Bike still has under 600 miles on it.

When I first install the pipe with no other changes I improved on ET. End of last year I was at 7.60's 1/8 mile. I have lost some on 60' and all I can figure is the only thing I did not change back to the way I was is the xb12 Throdle Body that I installed over winter,

Either way I will install the new cams in a week or so, then If that don't help with the XB12 TB I will change it back to the XB9 body.

Dont listen to the guy above - your tire is more than enough for the power that you have. There are people with way more power than you doing fine with the metzeler.
Slicks are nice, but I dont think thats what is hurting you right now.

When I ran the 7.60's I was on the stock tire,
So I will have to agree, my problem is is something other. I'm down to an electric of some sort I think? Compression and everything else looks good, Plugs look good at end of runs, so.....

"Don't listen to the guy above"...Lets frickin see...the title of the thread is "wheel spin"...DCb can't find the line between bog and spin.....maybe its the color of his plastics that is causing the wheel spin.

I'm shuttin the hell up...WTF do I know..I have only been involved in dragracing since 1972...held three national records and currently am technical advisor for a two time national event winning racer.

The man wanted a way to stop the wheel spin and I gave it to him...he rides a DRAGBIKE not some wanna be streetracer thing...a DRAGBIKE runs on a slick.

fast you have no clue what you are talking about the metzler drag tec tire has gone in the 9's in the 1/4... so he can easily run that tire sure a slick would be better but thats not the problem here

Yeah and Kent Stotz went in the high 7's on a Shinko 003....and in the LOW 7's on a Mickey Thompson MCR2 (street tires)....But he knows how to set up and tune a bike...ran all the best parts money could buy...including clutch and engine managment boost controller etc....yeah 500+ hp hooked up...yeah you can go fast on a "street" tire...but yah gotta know what you are doing...so yah learn yourself, pay someone to do it or take advice...changing the tire is the cheapest way to gain the traction you need...

Good luck Dcb...the learning curve is long....you will get there one day if you keep at it...

When someone comes up with the solution to the balance between spin and bog without working on the clutch and using the Metzler, I would like to know...even old dogs want to learn new tricks...Why do V-Rod Destroyers come with slicks??? (an they are slow slugs..what high 9's if you can keep the rods and gears in them???)

Please keep up posted on how this works out....I will follow it....but I have said my last...Harry

Hey, Guys, Not looking for a fire storm, Just ideals and help, as I am Trying to cut cost of Trial by fire, and spending tons of cash trying for myself to find what works and doesn't.
This did start from Spin/bogg, So I have provide all the info I could to see if Anyone could offer any advice as to what I may have done wrong, or not see for myself. If i spin to much or bog to mush I'm losing either way.

I was also share some low cost set up ideal back as well.

Bottom line
I have to leave hard to keep it in the power band so I don't have to restart at the 50" mark LOL. and that is what it feels like. but when I do leave hard I still get a crappy 60' anyway. didn'y know if maybe clutch was going already or not.

I know it could be a ton of things, so I asked for help. Riding style and HP is a big factor, However I have heard more in a few days here then I will ever hear at a track that has no Buells to buddy up with and learn. So thanks to everyone, so far.

Fast - I am not trying to cause issue....but I know for a fact that this guy isnt over-powering this tire.
I also run the metzeler....its not a streetfighter, its a dragbike.
No pics right now, but I've been low 1.60s 60' times with my stock motor'd S3.

Get someone to video you on a pass and take a close look at what is going on...take some white shoe polish and mark the tire to see if it is spinning or not.

The bog can be fixed with a little blue bottle and some heavy duty cylinder studs.

I will do as advised.
Mark the tires and film the launch.
Next week by Wednesday I should be back at the track.

Out of pocket this weekend.

nah just practice on the sidewalk. get a barell of sticky spray and go from there.. or have a strip made at the house. just long enough for a launch. thats if you live where you can do that.

may be time to purchase some out of town property on a back road. Then pave it just big enough to do launches. call it DCB launch test site. I am sure others would use it.

lol

Man I am lucky to be the only house on the street. I am at the end in round about.

Its not track pavement but it does help kinda.

My lady will not let me go to the track till I graduate school Again and go back to work. At that time I get to purchase a new trailer and start my sessions at Gainesville raceway.

I may look for work in gainesville. then drag the trailer with me to work or drop it off early at the track. a million ways to do it. I will be back racing on a dinosaur bike by then, but its mine and That is what I can afford.
