Wondered why Shawn wasn't entered in Superbike or Sportbike... now we know!! Zero Motorcycles racing the TTXGP at Infineon with Higbee on the pole in this historic race: http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=4 0461 |

Shawn's lap times are pretty impressive. Not only is he FAR ahead of the field, but he's less than 20 seconds off the Sportbike times. With that kind of performance, Zero should send Shawn out to some track days. I think it would make an interesting demonstration to show that an electric bike can go faster than most people can on their R1's and GSXR 1000's |

I have to say I am impressed with the technology side. Looks like they uses a susuki sv frame for it! i wonder if the bike is noiseless, that is one of my thoughts I have had about electric bikes. I enjoy the sound of the bikes. it makes you appreciate how fast they are truly going. |

"world's first zero carbon, clean emission motorcycle race" That is incredibly misleading. The batteries must be charged with electricity. That electricity must be generated. If it is generated by coal, gas, or oil fired powerplants, it sure as heck is not "zero carbon." |

What if it wasn't? I recharged my Blast's flat battery with the good old sun. |

To date . . . the electric cars that have been developed emit a hell of a lot more nasty emissions than my old Ford. The only thing they change is the time and place of the emissions. Me? . . I'm, all for electric cars. But then I build power plants for a living. |

I liked how they used Higbee's trailer with the big Buell sign on the side.

Some pictures of Shawn in action
He had a real ding-dong battle with Michael Barnes in the first half of the race. Barney's bike had some serious "grunt" and would leave Shawn exiting a corner or pass him on a straight. Shawn had the better handling motorcycle by far and could keep his momentum up going through the corners.

Right after the race the Lucas electronics lost their smoke.

FYI - I think you might see some familiar names on the Zero employee roster. It probably isn't coincidence Shawn is riding their bike! Congrats Shawn! The energizer bunny has nothing on you.... |

That is a cool video. Does the motor provide any "engine braking" or is it all wheel braking? I wonder if the throttle can be turned backward to allow the motor to provide braking? |

Apparently those scraping noises are the knee pucks. Interesting what you actually HEAR! |

The whine sound is intoxicating especially when he accelerates at a real fast pace. It sounds similar to superchargers on drag race cars as they are coming at you. |

You could hear tire howl at one point as well (I think). Sounded VERY cool! I'm guessing the braking could be regenerative, but then it would have to have a front wheel drive, or have some pretty fancy traction control (Go Abe!). |

An interesting side note is that ex-Bueller Abe Askenazi is now employed at Zero and helped get them hooked up with Shawn. |
