Hey guys, I just took delivery of a 12r race bike, 08 motor, stock. I can't get it to come off idle.
The bike was built for moto st. Has not been used in awhile. Fuel smells ok and I think its fresh, it starts fine, idles fine. As soon as you turn the throttle a touch above idle it dies, like hitting the kill switch. What am I missing? TPS reset? The bike has a race ecm, I do have ECM spy, but have not tried hooking it up yet (still a Buell newbie).

The catch is I'm at my local track for our first round, I have not had time to go over it yet, but where should I start? Gummed up throttle body or injectors? Or is this a electronics thing?

Thanks

Plugs are fouled. Seen it before. Try that first. Hope it's that simple

Diagnosing on the internet is never easy.

What Rocco said about plugs is the easiest thing to fix that is likely wrong.

TPS re-set on the 08 is simple (my stuff is all pre-08 so I don't have the procedure memorized - but it's posted here somewhere and in the manuals)

If you have the fully-programmable Race ECM or it has been re-programmed using ECM Spy by somebody who didn't understand what they were doing - that could be trouble if you're trying to get it running right today. IF it WAS running sweet and not isn't then it very likely IS plugs, TPS re-set, Fuel, something simple.

Is there a dyno at the track? You ought to do at least a couple pulls at the throttle/RPM areas of interest(4500-7000) just to see if it's really far off.

do you have a quick shift? also check look for a little can looking object on the shifter.

If someone did the programming wrong with the ecm as stated above unplug the quick shift to the ecm and test. if that works. just have that reprogrammed after today and use a different technique to shift till then.

I have seen that happen a couple times on new ecms. They were not programmed for the shifter and would die as soon as you tried to use the bike in gear off the clutch.

Its like the other post its really hard to figure it out over the net. most likely its in the ecm.

my guess is the plugs. If it's a RMR bike, I doubt anyone that didn't know what they were doing screwed with it.
Let us know what the cure was please

Hey guys thanks for the help.

Yes its an RMR bike, and that's why I was surprised it wasn't running.....

so the cure...

as it turns out, I popped the airbox lid off, and tried it and it ran....the rubber snorkel was not seated down all the way on the throttle body, so as soon as I gave it gas it sucked down on the lid, sealing against it and starving it of all air. I reseated the snorkel and all is well. Bike ran great the rest of the day, really happy with it, still needs a little setup for me, but that will come with seat time.

Tomorow I plan on running 3 races, and we will see how it go's and I think it will be lots of fun...huge upgrade/improvement on my old bike.

Thanks again.
