I've been thinking an XB9 for myself next year. I wanna do some track schools and track days, maybe some club racing down the line too.

Which organizations?

MRA, SMRI, & ASMA.

Next year I'm also heading over to UT to do a few MOM races. It looks like they have a structure similar to CCS.

with recent events, I'd steer clear of Buell

If only because of the parts situation that is

My thoughts exactly. Patiently waiting this out to see what comes of it...

I will still race or run track days with my Buell, even after today's news. When it comes to the point I can't get parts, then I will find another V-twin and put it on the track.

Paint - I'll likely still look for one as well - parts availibility would be my biggest concern, but the substantial savings on the purchase might make it worth it.

Heck - parts availability is NOT going to be an issue on the XB machines.

Might mean in about 5 years if nothing changes, we'll be doing some networking to keep racing parts within reach.

I'm betting it is not really an issue.

I'm also betting that if we base our future racing plans for racing at the CLUB level on today's announcements, we're just not thinking rationally.

Also - just think about it from a racer's perspective: people are ALWAYS getting rid of XB bikes because they "aren't enough motorcycle" for their manly needs. Either that or there will always be wrecked XBs.

It's gonna work out just fine and I'm especially eager to put my ear to the ground NOW for people in a panic to sell. (yeah, I'm a vulture when it comes to scarfing up spare parts)

I can always keep the trusty Buell going on the race track. It HAS been fun and WILL BE fun in 2010.

I'm with Steve!!

I'll continue racing my XB12R next year.
Ironically, I just today got my new Alpinestars boots and Shark helmet in the mail with my new Teknics leathers due to show up any day! I wanted to get a jump on next season!

Concur. Remember, XB's use a 'Sportster' motor and while there may be some differences, they are minor and parts for Sportsters will be around for years to come. The aftermarket guys will still be making parts for them too.

I talked to my racing teammate, Troy Walbaum, who is the sales manager at Silver Eagle HD/Buell, yesterday about Buell race parts as I was a little paniced about brake pads, etc.

He had just received an e-mail from Buell that explained that there will be race parts available through 2010 but no contingency. Now we'll be just like all the SV guys as they have never had any contingency from Suzuki but it has not affected the number of SV's that race every year.

My plan is to stock up on the Nissan brake pads unless I can buy them directly from them otherwise HD has to have regular parts available for Buells the next seven years so replacement parts should not be a problem.

Now is a great time to look for an XB!! Since the dealers are blowing out their inventory, you can bet private sellers will have to drop thier prices too.

Heck, there could be more Buell race bikes show up next year than ever before!!

Well, with all the news, I think I've decided against the track bike and instead am going for a second street bike. The CR will be the track day , but will still see street duty. I'm looking to pick up either a Uly or an S3T to fill the distance riding void that the CR has been doing.

The nice thing about a dedicated track bike is that you don't have to walk to work when you crash at the track. You also can remove, to save weight, mirrors, lights, etc. You don't have enjoy the surprise that you get from running through that unknown oil puddle on the street and 'realizing' it on the track. You can also use race pads that work great for racing and track days but not so good for street.

Buells, unless you are extremely abusive, will last for years on the track with only oil changes, and the like. They also crash cheaply. $80 or much less is typical. Several hundred is typical with your CR. 90% of the mechanics on an XB Buell is a Sporster, the rest is available from dozens of third parties. I know people who still race Harley Sprints. These were discontinued by HD in the 70s.
