On advice from another member, I decided to also post this in the drag racing section: I've been looking into getting some straps for the front forks in the hopes of getting the best 60ft times on the 1125. Most of what I read describes straps being hooked up to dual front brake mounts. With a single side brake mount on our bikes, I'm trying to figure out how best to set up a fork strap. Anyone have pictures, how-to's, or a brand of strap that works with this bike? Thanks a bunch BadWeb. |

I have not done this, but I have been told you can run a harley type nylon strap through the hollow axle, and then up through the bottom triple tree, or fork clamp, and back down to itself, and crank it down to compress most of your travel. I have not tried this! You must check everything to make sure you have full steering, and are getting no interference with any of your controls or lines, i.e. brake, clutch, etc. Or anything else , for that matter. At your own risk. Put a steering damper on it, too, I would recommend. I just put a GPR unit on my bike today, and it is a whole new animal. THis bike should not be allowed on the highway without one, if you ask me, and nobody did. Flame away, I don't care, this thing was almost dangerous in certain situations before, and now it feels rock solid. I should have done it 19 months ago! I would not dragrace this thing with a strap and no steering damper, you couldn't pay me enough. |

Let me rephrase, this thing was ABSOLUTELY dangerous, in certain situations before, and is now rock solid. |

TONS of people drag with a strap and no stabilizer with zero problems. myself included not sure what you mean by 'harley type nylong strap' when you buy these things from companies like pingel or PR Factory Store they dont ask what it is going on, just giveyou a strap i havent attempted this on a 1125, but i dont see why you couldnt put a rod through the axle for the mounts to screw into. |

Ill take a picture of mine what I done. I bought a strap from pingel and I bought a piece of ALL THREAD With to lock-nuts and a few washers to fit. Now I bought the biggest diameter All-THREAD I can found and still fit everything. I Never had any problems with it and I got 2 seasons on it and about 300 passes at the track. You will need to shortin the kickstand or just use a pit bull stand. if you dont unstrap it. |

Here's a pic of an S3 with the front end strapped and a little more info by Scott_in_nh on the installation. FYI, I saw what looked like a tie-down strap clamp in that pic and did a little search of the author's other posts to verify that it was a tie-down strap used to lower the front end on a drag bike. |

Kevin, Just so you know. Many tech inspections require approved straps such as those from Pingel. Approved straps have a tab attached from the approving org. Regular ratchet type tie downs or nylon straps won't pass muster. G |

Wow, Thanks so much, everyone, for posting your responses. I have a good idea now about how best to set up a strap and to look for straps that are approved. I've had my eye on the GPR steering damper as a future mod, but knowing I may run into some headshake issues being strapped, the damper might be pushed up in the line of things to get. If anyone wants to post more detailed pics of their strapped setups, please do. I'm sure I can figure it out, but having a good reference diagram is always a plus. I'll definitely check back with you all after my next drag trip, post up my times and experiences. This will be the first time I take the 1125 down the 1320 and I can't wait.... a little cautious about the world of difference between launching my car and the bike, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in no time. Thanks again, BadWebbers. --Kevin |

I mean just a regular ratchet style strap that is just plain on one end that you could thread through the hollow axle. Harley has some nice heavy ones that will work, but I doubt they have an approval sticker on them, I didn't think about that. I don't know if they look for that at Infineon, where my friend is dragging his bike. |

Pingle strap is the way to go! I do not know a single drag racer who has needed to add a damper because of any instability caused by strapping down the front end. I have accelerated past the finish line to 125-130 mph before hard braking to the end of the course without any problems... You cannot leave hard without strapping the front end!! 2 tenths for $30 IS the cheapest bang for the buck ever! With a tuber I did not need the all-thread, but if anyone needs a better picture of my setup let me know. You should also take all of the preload out of the rear shock so as to lower the suspension as much as is possible.
