hope y'all are doing great!! Michael and I spent the weekend racing WERA at Barber!! Bad juju on the practice day as a corner worker darted onto the track to remove debris and a girl rider on a zx10 cut to the inside where he came from and he turned back into her. unfortunately neither one made it. the girl who died rode with us at the Jennings after christmas weekend. her and her man had matching bikes and leathers and were both really moving on the track. they seemed really happy together. Michael saw the scene after but i got the red flag right at pit out and pulled in. RIP!! i tucked the front in turn 2 much later after the officials completed the investigation. worn tire and a little mist, did a few backwards somersaults in front of Michael but had little real damage. repaired and ready for saturday we then put the new pirellis on the bike. did practice and then waited for my race- heavyweight solo, expert and novice combined. got a killer start from way back but the race got red flagged on the 1st lap. 2nd start wasn't as good but i got off clean. there were so many people that i didn't really know my position but i moved past some riders and finished the 16 laps in 5th for the novice group. i was happy to have finished upright. Michael's friend Shannon cooked us a killer buffet on the 2 grills and we had a great saturday night.. woke up to rain on sunday so i put the rains on the bike and had some wet practice, really wet practice-bikes going down everywhere. first up-A superstock wet race, water all over the track. had a good race going fighting back and forth with another novice in the wet but he got into a fast tank slapper coming out of the last turn trying to drive away from me and i had a front row seat for a splashing, crashing, sliding event that brought out the red flag. restarted, got away clean again and just settled in coming off in 7th place. pulled right up for race 2, heavyweight superbike. another decent start but i got caught hung out behind slower riders and was not being very aggressive with my passing and let the leaders get away. i was getting a little frustrated trying to find a way around and then the halfway flags came out. that lap i turned it up and started passing on the brakes every where i could and worked my way to 3rd overall and 2nd in novice class. the track kept drying out but looking like it was about to let the rain out at any time so i was in a quandary about what to do. i went out for race 6-senior superbike combined and at pit out there weren't many of us still on rains. on the sighting lap there was very little water on the track. another good start and making moves up the order until i ran off track after the museum straight fom my head being somewhere else. i managed to keep the bike up and moving, staying away from the brakes and watching 8 riders go by underneath me. i rode back on track and just concentrated on repassing those riders. by the end of the race i got back by 4 0r 5 of them and finished 8th. i came into the pits and thought i had races 7&8 to swap the tires so some friends helped and we went after it. unfortunately they combined 7&8 and they were at 3rd call as we were buttoning up the rear. i dressed out as they started the 1st wave in race 9, heavyweight superstock and then as i started towards pit out the next wave was started. at pit out they let me on the track about 1/2 a lap down and on the 2nd lap here came the experts. it was fun as i got some good instruction for my next Barber event from guys like Matt Lynn and Brian Stokes. as they came by i managed to stay fairly close to the 7th expert that came by and somehow finished in 3rd place novice group. came home with some hardware!! sorry for the lengthy report. HAVE A GREAT MEMORIAL DAY AND REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE KEPT US FREE! tim |

I am sure there were somber overtones for you guys with the Friday incident. Rain never really helps either, but it sounds like you did pretty well on the track. Congrats on a decent race weekend!!! |

Congrats on the 2nd and 3rd place podiums. It was cool to hear good chat in the pits about you and the 1125, way to go Tim! Had a great time racing, even in the rain. Hanging out with you was a blast as always and all that grilling out made me about a pound or two heavier, lol! I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. Still haven't unpacked, every things water logged, lol! |
