Well the first weekend of my CCS schedule is in the books and WOW what a weekend! I brought out my new race bike for the first time, and found out in practice that it wasn't going to run right. Which brings me to my first thanks. Thank you to Dan Bilansky! He took time out of his own busy race schedule for the weekend and hooked his laptop up to my bike and dumped in one of his proven maps. The first one didn't work, but he continued trying for about ten minutes until it was running clean. He also took time to give me plenty of suggestions on a full Thunderbike built engine. Thanks a lot Dan! However, things didn't stay peachy for the whole weekend though, and in my first race on Sunday on the second lap the bike quit. I was downshifting for turn 5, and on the second downshift the bike coughed back through the airbox and just quit. I pulled it off luckily not getting picked off! I couldn't get it refired. I boarded the crash truck for the ride of shame. I knew I brought the old bike along for a reason! With only one race in between, I had my work cut out for me to get the bodywork swapped over. But once again my fellow Buell racers came to help out. Thanks to Ralph Longus and Troy Walbaum! They helped me to get the bike ready and Ralph loaned me the gas to get back on the track since all I had was leaded (I will pay you back for the gas someday Ralph). Both of my brothers were there also, and they jumped in and helped out where they could. Overall, a great effort, and I still made all of my races. Thanks again to Ralph and Troy. This is a perfect example of what Buell Racing truly exemplifies! I am damn proud to be associated with such a great company, and a great group of guys here in the Midwest Series. I can honestly say that I don't see myself racing any other brand of bike. GO BUELL Schmitty |

Sorry to hear about the misfortune you had with the new bike, but you should have plenty of time to work out the querks before the next race at blackhawk. I know Matt was thankful for the sprocket you sold to him. Without that all the time we spent switching swingarms on his bike would have been a waste. Blackhawk will be my first race of the season so I'm looking forward to racing with everyone. It really sucks watching from the sidelines! See you there!! |

that's probably the end of July Dave. The BHF date. I have graduations at the end of this month. A trip to Arizona on a race weekend. Everything seems to be falling on race weekends. Just weird timing I guess. I'm sure you'll get the bike sorted Ben. Full fledged race bikes can be very fickle. You guys will have an advantage over me now(not that you needed one). I doubt I'll even get a track day in before the first race of the season for me. I will, at least, try to make the Friday test and tune. |
