Looks like Danny got a podium! 27 seconds behind the leader? |

The 1125R must be harder to manage in the rain. |

I can think of one reason why Cardenas/Hacking came in 25 sec ahead of the rest of the field. They chose the right tire. Either they rode on dry tires and the other did not or vice verca. I'm speculating, of course. |

Superbike seems to be stuck on lap 5 for the last 10 minutes. 23race3 minute board will be at 5:55. Frenzy of activity here in the pits.1 minute ago from TwitterFon (Message edited by snowscum on May 03, 2009) |

Roadracing World says the race was finished in "wet but drying conditions". Sounds like you're right about the tires. |

They should of moved the schedule up before the big storm came, but I guess the DMG thinks the autograph session is more important then the racing . We were ALL thinking along the same lines in Fontana on Sunday--the morning when the helacious rains came thru, but cleared about noon. The autograph session was cool, especially seeing where the crowd tended to gather (the factory IL4 guys were uncomfortably lonely for stretches--at least when I was there.) Luckily the weather held out for the racing. Guess it wasn't so at barber. |

I'm on the way home from Barber. Actually Richie told me they was having trouble with the buells and hoping it rained. Well it poured race was on a wet partially dry. Very few had DOT tires most had rains on. Danny was 5th on the last lap and the last half 3 and 4 wrecked putting danny up in 3. Dam that race exhaust sounds good |

Spoke with Bryan Bemisderfer for quite a while(great guy). He explained that Barber's is not a "Buell" track. The Buells like to run wide open or pull off the bottom to the top. Running the bikes in the upper top third of the rpm range actually advantages the IL4's. Also, the track does not favor the Buells in that the torque can cause the bike to push real hard and lift the front end. This upsets the suspension and can make lap times erratic. The 1125R can be tough to ride there. Danny along with all the other Buells had a difficult time this weekend and the wx did not cooperate very well at all. They were all pretty much running the same tires from what I saw and Danny did not start at the front. From the beginning of the race Hacking jumped out front and appeared to have the race won but Cardinas made the pass late in the race and held on to win. I was seated on the back straightaway on the final lap and was amazed when I heard that Danny had gotten a third knowing that he had just recently passed for 5th and was not near the leaders. I figured the only way was that 3rd and 4th had crashed. Danny's burn out and wheelie was super cool and yes, those race exhausts sound awesome. |

Nice to see Danny, on an "off day" still on the podium and protecting his points. It looks to me that the RMR guys are really racing smart and recognizing and playing to the Buells advantages/disadvantages. |

I was at the Barber Races all weekend and the top Buells were all having trouble keeping the pace in the dry with the top riders in the Daytona Sportbike class. I thing Brian B. summed it up nicely in the post above, judging what other riders and pit crews were telling me. It was not that the Buells were slow...it was just that other fast guys were really fast. The rain worked to Danny and Barney's favor, and Barney openly was wishing for rain on the intercom interview that he did before the race. The last few, and in particular the last couple of laps of that race were the most exciting of the weekend with Eslick and Barn running down Davis after he and Barney both dispatched Jason Disalvo. Davis was not going to roll over by any means after being passed and retook the position with a daring inside block pass on Danny in turn 5, where Danny cut back to the inside and retook it again. On the last lap, Davis took it back with another suicide pass coming onto the main straight to the checkered flag, but again Danny cut back to the inside and the drag race was on with Danny winning at the line. Barney was having a hell of a ride right behind both of these other guys, although he never challenged Davis or Danny with discretion being the better part of valor. Danny needed the points and Barney was not going to get in the way. The rain was the equalizer for the Buells at Barber, no doubt about it. This series is offering the best racing in the AMA series, and the fans and announcers aren't afraid to show their appreciation. We waited through a tornado warning type thunderstorm (I was in the basement at the museum, not being a dummy like some folks who simply stayed in their cars), and it was worth it. One of the most impressive things of this years Buell efforts in the Daytona Sportbike Series is what a difference great sponsors make. The Buell semis and bus/trailer combo makes for a very impressive pit display. There is definitely a presence that is not lost amongst the fans about this new Buell 1125R. Jeeze, just imagine how good things could get if Erik and company actually designed a race bike like Honda, Yammy Haul and Kawasaki, instead of this 1125R sport touring machine (slight joke). |

had a great time on the backstraight by the tree line down past the vendor stretch of the fan zone. best seats on the track. we got to see more racing conditions over the weekend than we had any right to. racing in the rain, wind, semi wet, semi dry and dry. mladin just appears to still be the class of the field and the also rans can only fight for a short time. it looked like his only regular rivals are on the same team. hayes and bostrum both tried but just couldn't keep up even after the %%@@##%% safety car was called into action. Daytona Sportbike and Supersport also had a lot of good racing happening. i also was surprised in race 2 with Eslick's podium as he had started lap 1 in 12th and was fighting for 5th halfway through the final lap. had some good conversations with Mike Kirkpatrick, Brian Bemisderfer and Walt Sipp. Best luck next time!!! tim |
